Gwyneth Paltrow reveals why she was left 'devastated' after Woody Allen audition
Gwyneth Paltrow reflected on the 'devastation' of losing a plum part in a Woody Allen film when she was around 19.
'It was my dream to be in a Woody Allen movie,' the 52-year-old Goop CEO-founder told The World's First Podcast With Erin & Sara Foster on Thursday.
'And I went in [to audition], like, six times for this thing and it was between me and one other young woman.'
Neither Gwyneth nor the other woman wound up getting the role and she thought her 'career was over,' but when she discovered who got it she scoffed to her famous mother Blythe Danner that the actress was 'not even that good.'
That's when the 82-year-old Tony winner scolded Paltrow: '"Don't you ever disparage another woman. If you don't get a part that just means it wasn't your part. And there will be parts for you, but don't hold on to the energy of something [being] yours if it's not yours. You will be miserable in life."'
The LA-born nepo baby - whose godfather is Steven Spielberg - said Blythe's advice 'really changed the way that I approached competition with other women, which like, it totally dissolved that idea for me.'

'I think it just kind of like imbued me with this idea that what's yours is yours and what's not is not. And that's where we get so upset,' Gwyneth noted.
'It's like, if you don't get invited to something and we feel like I'm left out, like, you're going to sit home and be [sad]. But it just wasn't meant for you to go, so it's okay, do you know what I mean?'
Danner just so happened to star in three films helmed by the disgraced 89-year-old - Another Woman, (1988), Alice (1990), and Husbands and Wives (1992).
Paltrow was most likely referring to the role of Rain, which went to Juliette Lewis, in Husbands and Wives since the two-time Emmy winner portrayed Rain's mother.

At the time, the 51-year-old Oscar nominee was dating Brad Pitt, who wound up getting engaged to Gwyneth soon after in 1996.
It was in the middle of making Husbands and Wives when Allen's partner Mia Farrow - who starred as his onscreen wife Judy Roth - discovered his secret affair with her 21-year-old adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn.

Paltrow eventually caught steam with early roles in Se7en (1995) and Hard Eight (1996) but she didn't gain worldwide fame until her streak of Emma (1996), Sliding Doors (1998), and Great Expectations (1998).
The empty nester went on to win the Oscar for Shakespeare in Love in 1999.
Last year, Gwyneth wrapped her role as Timothée Chalamet's much older love interest in Josh Safdie's solo feature directorial debut Marty Supreme, which hits US theaters December 25.
A24's $70M-budget ping pong drama also stars Tyler the Creator, Fran Drescher, Penn Jillette, Abel Ferrera, and Sandra Bernhard.
Paltrow will also have a cameo in Rachel Israel's indie comedy Miracle on 74th Street alongside Drew Barrymore, Jill Kargman, Justin Bartha, David Krumholtz, Christine Taylor, and Jason Biggs.

Black Sabbath star shares fears over Ozzy Osbourne's health for final show
Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi is worried about the band's big goodbye gig in Birmingham on July 5, as reports emerge that frontman Ozzy Osbourne's heart is being monitored daily. The Back To The Beginning show, taking place at the iconic Villa Park stadium, will see the full Black Sabbath line-up – composed of Tony, Ozzy, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward – reunite on stage for the first time in 20 years. The show – also with supporting performances from the likes of Metallica and Slayer – is billed as Ozzy's final farewell to fans, following his health decline due to a 2020 Parkinson's diagnosis and extensive spinal surgery. Speaking to Music Week three weeks ahead of the show, Tony admitted: 'This would be a big, monumental thing if it all comes good. The worrying thing for me is the unknown. 'We don't know what's going to happen. Normally, when we'd tour, we'd rehearse and run through the thing for a while, and it's just us. But with this event there are so many other moving parts. 'You're used to Ozzy running around, but he certainly won't be doing that for this show. I don't know if he's going to be standing or sitting on a throne or what.' Last month, chatting on Ozzy Speaks, The Osbournes star revealed his blood pressure was being taken 15 times a day. Ozzy explained: 'I have got this trainer guy who helps people get back to normal. It's hard going, but he's convinced that he can pull it off for me. I'm giving it everything I've got. 'It's endurance. The first thing that goes when you're laid up is your stamina. 'I am having my blood pressure taken 15 times a day.. I've got this f***ing device on my finger. It's a monitor to say how my heart rate is.' The one-off charity concert will see Ozzy perform a solo segment before the legendary rockers come together one final time. Proceeds will raise money for Cure Parkinson's, the Birmingham Children's Hospital and Acorn Children's Hospice. As per Tony's words, last month Ozzy confessed he might be 'sitting down' for the show. 'I'll be there, and I'll do the best I can. So all I can do is turn up,' he told The Guardian. As well as his daily heart monitoring, Ozzy revealed a vocal coach was working with him four days a week to 'keep [his] voice going'. 'I have problems walking. I also get blood pressure issues, from blood clots on my legs,' he said. Ozzy's wife Sharon Osbourne announced the news of the farewell gig in February. 'It's very emotional but very happy. It's time for Ozzy to say goodnight to everybody, and what better way to do it than to do it surrounded by your friends, your family, and back to the beginning – the place where he was born – in Aston,' she said. MTV host Amanda Lewis dead age 53 after breast cancer battle
She leaves behind a 14-year-old son. Amanda Lewis has passed away at the age of 52. The television host, best known for her MTV stint in the late 1990s, lost her life following her battle with breast cancer. She was a popular host during the network's"veejay" era and sadly passed away yesterday, Wednesday June 11, 2025. In October 2020, Ananda announced to fans that she'd been privately battling Stage 3 breast cancer for two years. She also told how she'd avoided getting regular mammograms due to her fear of radiation exposure. During a 2024 interview she revealed that her breast cancer had reached Stage 4 after previously declining to undergo a mastectomy for treatment. Ananda's sister Lakshmi has now confirmed the sad news of her sister's passing on Facebook in an emotional message, The Mirror reports. Lakshimi also revealed that Ananda's 14-year-old son was graduating middle school the same day as her passing. TMZ reported that made the day very bittersweet. She shares the teen boy, her only child, with husband Harry Smith, 54, who is the younger brother of Oscar-winning actor Will Smith, 56. Many are mourning Ananda's untimely death on social media, especially on X, formerly Twitter. One wrote on the platform X: "Omg Rip to the beautiful #AnandaLewis her sister confirmed the news. "If you're a 90s/early 2000s baby, then you definitely wanted to be her, at some point! The real 'It girl'! She just had it!Phuck cancer! Sending love to every person that loved her. Get your rest beauty." Another wrote on X: " Ananda Lewis was so iconic. Sleep peacefully angel," a third penned: "Ananda Lewis was one of the quintessential 90's baddies RIP." As a fixture on MTV in the late 1990s, Ananda hosted hit shows like Total Request Live, Hot Zone and Spring Break. But she left her MTV role in 2001 and began hosting her very own daytime TV talk show, The Ananda Lewis Show, which ran for two seasons. She earned two NAACP Image Awards during her career and was once deemed the 'the hip-hop generation's reigning It Girl' by The New York Times. Lakshmi said that a memorial would be held 'in a few weeks' and that celebrities who Ananda previously interview have already expressed interest in paying tribute to her at the upcoming service.

Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society: The group backed by Judi Dench that 'means so much to so many'
Driven by a unified passion for theatre Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society has been at the heart of the local community for more than 70 years. With the youngest member only six-years-old and the oldest 93, generations combine to bring the magic of stage to the Broch. Supporters of Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society (FJAS) include King Charles, legendary Oscar winning actor Dame Judi Dench and Joanna Lumley. Dame Judi's donation helped fund a sign that shines a beacon for arts and creativity through the streets of Fraserburgh town centre. Their latest production is an ambitious performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Fraserburgh Leisure Centre – complete with stunning glass elevator. Their rendition of the classic Roald Dahl novel also contains unique Oompa-Loompa's. Show producer Lewis Platt said: 'Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society means so much to so many people and we are very proud of the organisation. 'We are fully self-funded and rely on the goodness of people buying tickets for our shows. 'We have support from the King, Dame Judi Dench, Joanna Lumley and the Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire. 'A donation from Dame Judi was used to buy a big Junior Arts logo for our 70th jubilee. 'Our logo sits above the Leisure Centre building and when it is on at night it lights up and shines right up the Broch. 'When you come down from Broadgate you can see our sign which is amazing.' Rising talent Caleb Patterson plays Charlie Bucket who visits the wonderful factory of eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka, played by Craig Roger. First published in 1964 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory focuses on the adventure of 10-year-old Charlie and his grandpa Joe (Joss Duthie). In the irreverent, darkly comic children's novel Charlie wins a golden ticket to tour the magical chocolate factory. Timeless characters also include Augustus Gloop (Joss Maclaren), Veruca Salt (Eden Park), Violet Beauregarde (Zoe Burnett) and Mike Teavee (Ethan Doutre). FJAS's production also has unique Oompa-Loompas that are the result of tireless work from the costume design team. Lewis, who is also president of FJAS, said: 'We have a cast of 48 with our youngest member Caleb Patterson who is 12-years-old and plays Charlie Bucket. 'Caleb had never done anything with junior arts before but came to auditions in January and blew us away. 'He is great to work with and his singing voice is beautiful. 'We purchased a unique glass elevator that has come up from London and glows. 'It will fly about the stage. 'Our Oompa-Loompas are quite unique as they all have specialised costumes made for them. 'All the costumes are made of foam and are boxed out to make them look smaller and dumpier than they are . 'Our costume ladies Wendy Simpson and Doreen Gibson sat for many hours with their team cutting out foam, lining it and putting costumes into it. 'There are four different types of Oompas for different parts of the factory. 'When you see the workers in the chocolate room they are completely different from the ones in the nut room, mixing room and television room.' The origins of the Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society trace back to 1952. A pantomime was staged by Fraserburgh Photographic Society that year to raise funds for equipment. Inspired by the success of the production the following year some of the members formed the Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society. The society represented Aberdeenshire in 2000 at the Millennium Dome, taking 200 youngsters to London to perform 'Our Town Story'. Lewis said: 'We sit 600 people per night with 4,200 people a week coming to see our show. 'We have 548 members that range from the age of six-years-old to 93. 'Our oldest member is Elma Goodlad who is 93 and makes our costumes. 'She has been making costumes for 50 years. 'Everything in Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society is built by us… all the sets, costumes and props. 'The only thing we take in is the script and light and sound where we use a company from Dundee. 'Even though it is amateur we try to make it as professional as we can. 'I have been in junior arts since I was eight and I'm 34 now. 'Many of us have been here for 20, 30 or 40 years. 'Doreen Gibson has been in our society for 50 years. 'Everything we do from the committee to front of house has a passion, from everyone.'
