Sixers prospect Tre Johnson compared to 2 legitimate NBA scorers
As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare for the 2025 NBA draft and weigh all options with the No. 3 pick, there are plenty of avenues they can go down to improve the roster. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey is never one to shy away from making a deal that he feels will help the roster going forward.
The Sixers will have a number of players to look at in order to add a good, young player to the roster, and one of those options is Texas product Tre Johnson.
Johnson averaged 19.9 points for the Longhorns as a freshman in the tough SEC. He shot 39.7% from deep and played 34.7 minutes per night while being the guy for Texas on a regular basis. ESPN has NBA comparisons for the lottery picks and they compared Johnson to former All-Star guard Michael Redd on the high end and Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas on the low end who are both legitimate NBA scorers. Redd was an All-Star in 2004 and Thomas is a threat to score 40 every night.
ESPN on Johnson:
Johnson is a fairly simple prospect to understand. He's likely going to shoot it well; he's probably going to shoot a lot; and whatever else he ends up giving his future team will be gravy, not necessarily baked into their expectations.
Johnson's clean and compact stroke will make him a threat from long range, and he has flashed ability to get to it off the dribble, with a level of fearlessness required to succeed as a volume scorer but also one that can get him into trouble with shot selection at times. His efficiency inside the paint and finishing will have to improve, too.
One has to wonder what the Sixers are thinking. Nobody seems to know--which is a good thing, by the way--as Philadelphia seems to be holding all the cards for June 25. At this point, the Sixers just need to continue doing their due diligence on the prospects and trust that Morey and his staff will make the right decision.

Woeful Rockies absorb 2 records for futility with 19 whiffs and worst 70-game mark in modern era

ATLANTA (AP) — Kyle Farmer just shrugged when asked about being part of a Colorado team that just made MLB history with the worst 70-game record in the modern era. 'We don't care,' Farmer said after Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves left the Rockies with a 13-57 record. The Rockies surpassed the 1932 Boston Red Sox, who were 14-56, for the worst 70-game mark since 1901. 'I mean, there's nothing we can do about it,' Farmer said. 'It is what it is. We've just got to show up tomorrow and play. There's nothing you can really say about it except that if it happens, it happens.' The Rockies made more inglorious history by setting a franchise nine-inning record with 19 strikeouts. That's a lot of futility for one team to absorb in one day. The 19 strikeouts by Braves pitchers also set an Atlanta record for a nine-inning game. Spencer Strider recorded 13 strikeouts in six innings, followed by relievers Rafael Montero and Dylan Lee, who combined for six more whiffs. The only bright spot for the Rockies was the encouraging start by rookie right-hander Chase Dollander, a native of Evans, Georgia, who allowed four runs, three earned, in six innings. Dollander said 'just having a neutral mindset' is the key to remaining positive through a season already filled with low points for the team. 'Don't ride the roller coaster,' Dollander said. 'You know, there's going to be lots of ups and downs in this game. This game is really hard. So it's just, you know, staying neutral and we just keep going.' Dollander was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 summer draft. Among other top young players on the team are catcher Hunter Goodman, who may return to Atlanta for the All-Star Game on July 15, and outfielders Jordan Beck and Brenton Doyle. 'You know we're going to have our time,' Dollander said. 'I mean, it's just one of those things that you kind of learn as you go. I've been very fortunate to be here for a little bit now, and I can help us going forward.' 'For sure, keeping guys accountable and teaching them the right way to do stuff,' said Farmer, the first baseman whose double off Strider was one of only four hits for the Rockies. 'Keeping their heads up and they've got to show up each day and play, no matter our record. It's your job and you worked your whole life to get here. Enjoy it. This is a great opportunity for a young guy to show what they can do.' ___

Giannis Antetokounmpo Sends Clear Message on LeBron James

Giannis Antetokounmpo Sends Clear Message on LeBron James originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Giannis Antetokounmpo has said repeatedly that he considers LeBron James one of the greatest players of all time. The Milwaukee Bucks forward reiterated this to James' haters on Monday, after James called them out on the latest episode of "Mind the Game." Advertisement Haters of the Los Angeles Lakers star complained that 'LeBron has no bag,' to which James hilariously replied, 'LeBron has no bag, and I'm sitting here with 50 billion points.' Antetokounmpo took to X on Monday to further call out James' haters. He said, "If they're people out there that believe that one of the greatest players to ever be on earth has no bag… Man I've seen it all 💯🤦🏽‍♂️" James averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists last season as a 40-year-old. He was 13th on the 2024-25 NBA points leaderboard, which is no small feat. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.© Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images Antetokounmpo included James in his best five, which also included Steph Curry, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant. He is enjoying his time this offseason, paying little heed to trade rumors linking him to different clubs. Advertisement But the rumors have since started to die down, with insiders confirming that Antetokounmpo has no wish to leave Milwaukee. 'The common belief amongst league insiders that he will remain with the only franchise he's ever played for,' Jake Fischer revealed on Bleacher Report's NBA Insider Notebook. 'That confidence has been replaced with skepticism. To a man, from talking to agents, team executives, whoever, there is not a lot of belief right now at this juncture.' 'It's only June 5th — anything could happen — and I've been told all along that if there is a decision, a formal decision made to shut or open the door on trade conversations for Giannis this summer, that it would likely happen closer to the end of June and when the offseason really, really begins,' he added.
