Cordons lifted in central Auckland suburb of Mt Roskill after police incident

Police used distraction tactics to separate a man and woman during a family harm incident in Mt Roskill, following a standoff. They said a man has now been taken into custody and nobody was injured. An RNZ reporter at the scene of the incident on White Swan Road, said police confirmed the Eagle Helicopter circling above was used to identify an opportunity for distraction techniques to be deployed. Four loud noises were heard at 4.07pm but it's unclear if they were gunshots. Police closed off a section of White Swan Road before 1pm as officers responded to a family harm incident. Cordons were in place between Ellis Ave and Richardson Rd as officers attempted to engage with an individual in a nearby house. Some residents living on the section of White Swan Road where the incident had unfolded were unable to return to their homes and had been told by police to stay away in the meantime. About a dozen White Swan Road residents, including parents with children who had just finished school, were not allowed to enter the cordons to get home. One resident said they'd been given no information on how long the road would be blocked for. The principal of Lynfield College was at the scene, trying to help students who weren't able to return home. Kath Knell said the school would be providing a safe place for students while they waited. It's understood the school, along with Marshall Laing Primary School, had not needed to lock down. WHITE SWAN RD, MOUNT ROSKILL - FINAL UPDATE - 5:00PM White Swan Rd is now OPEN in both directions. A man has been arrested after a brawl north of Morrinsville that started when a person confronted a group in a vehicle doing burnouts. Police were called to Tahuna-Ohinewai Road in Tahuna when a fight broke out at about 7.20pm on Wednesday after a person confronted a group of three men in a vehicle doing burnouts. The person was assaulted, police said, and other members of the public attempted to step in. Detective Sergeant Ben Norman said a resident from a nearby property tried to intervene, but was also assaulted by the alleged offenders. In all, six people were injured during the incident. Two suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital while four others received minor injuries. ADVERTISEMENT "The offenders have then taken two vehicles from the Tahuna-Ohinewai address and moved them onto the street," Norman said. When police arrived, two people ran from the scene on foot, while another left in a vehicle taken from the address. "A short time later, one of the offenders was located nearby and was taken into custody by police," Norman said. A 22-year-old man wwas due to appear in the Hamilton District Court today, charged with aggravated robbery and injuring with intent. "An investigation into the serious assault and aggravated robbery has commenced, with police working to establish what exactly has occurred," Norman said. "Police are following multiple lines of enquiry to identify and locate the remaining two offenders and encourage them to do the right thing and hand themselves in." Anyone with information was asked to call 105. ADVERTISEMENT Norman said locals might see an increased police presence in the area. He thanked those who tried to intervene but urged the public "not to take matters into their own hands or confront individuals themselves", as situations could "escalate quickly". "Instead, stay in a safe location, gather as much information as you safely can, and contact Police on 111."
