Is Amber Heard Returning To Acting After Losing Defamation Case Against Johnny Depp?
Last Updated:
The play Spirit of the People, starring Amber, will be presented as part of the 2025 Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Amber Heard is returning to the spotlight after being missing in action for nearly three years following the defamation trial with her former husband, Johnny Depp. The actress, who lived a life away from the limelight in Spain, is returning to the acting field, not on the big screen, but on the stage. Amber is all set to star in a brand-new play titled Spirit of the People.
The play, written by Jeremy O. Harris and directed by Katina Medina Mora, will be presented as part of the 2025 Williamstown Theatre Festival. Joining Amber are actors Brandon Flynn, best known for his role in 13 Reasons Why and Lio Mehel, who is popular for his role in the Sundance breakout film Mutt, as reported by Variety. Meanwhile, Amber is known for her roles in films like Drop Dead Sexy, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane and Aquaman, among others.
The trio is all set to join the previously announced cast members, including Tony Award nominees Ato Blankson-Wood and James Cusati-Moyer, along with Amandla Jahava, Emma Ramos, Julian Sanchez, Zachary Booth and Tonatiuh.
According to the official description of the play Spirit of the People, it 'confronts uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it." Said to be a departure from his previous works, Jeremy has written the script partly in Spanish and includes prose, giving the story an emotional texture.
Apart from Spirit of the People, the festival, which is in its 71st season, will feature a diverse set of programmes, including the revival of Tennessee Williams's Camino Real and Not About Nightingales, alongside original works like The Things Around Us, a solo musical created and performed by Ahamefule J. Oluo and Many Happy Returns, a dance piece co-created and choreographed by Monica Bill Barnes and co-created and written by Robbie Saenz de Viteri.
Speaking of Amber Heard, this exciting announcement came more than a month after she announced the arrival of her twins on the occasion of Mother's Day this year. She posted a heartwarming photo of her newborn's tiny feet and penned an emotional note, revealing the names of her twins. Amber wrote, 'This year I am elated beyond words to celebrate the completion of the family I've strived to build for years. Today, I officially share the news that I welcomed twins into the Heard gang. My daughter Agnes and my son Ocean are keeping my hands (and my heart) full."
Previously, Amber welcomed her daughter Oonagh in April 2021.

'Meet the Fockers': Barbra Streisand reveals she was underpaid in this romantic comedy: 'I'm pissed Off'
While discussing Barbra Streisand 's new album with Variety, the seasoned singer and actress offered her thoughts on whether she would return to her role as Roz Focker from Meet the Fockers in the upcoming Meet the Parents movie. She pointed out that, considering the pay gap on the 2004 sequel, she would need to be paid "a lot of money" for that to happen. "Oh my God," Streisand said in the interview with Variety, "they'd have to pay me a lot of money because I didn't get paid what the other people got paid, and so I'm pissed off." "I was in the time when women were getting paid less than the men. The head of Universal was Ron Meyer at the time, and he actually sent me a bonus check. It was very sweet." As the parents of Ben Stiller's Greg, Streisand and Hoffman played Dustin Hoffman 's on-screen wife in the sequel. To the disappointment of Greg and his fiancée Pam (Teri Polo), they meet (and argue with) their son's future in-laws, Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner . A fourth Meet the Parents, a follow-up to the 2010 threequel Little Fockers, was recently announced by Universal. Many of the original stars (aside from Streisand) will return, and there will be one noteworthy new addition: pop star Ariana Grande , who recently starred in Wicked, in an unspecified role. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gentle Japanese hair growth method for men and women's scalp Hair's Rich Learn More Undo The fourth entry was written by John Hamburg, who also co-wrote the first three and will serve as director. Additionally, Streisand's next album, The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two, which is a compilation of duets and a follow-up to her 2014 album Partners, will feature Grande on the song "One Heart, One Voice." Mariah Carey will also be featured on the song. "They're the hottest, biggest, most wonderful voices," Streisand told Variety of tapping the music superstars. "And they both said yes to join me." As for whether she would consider a return to the big screen, Streisand noted that she does "get a lot of offers" when asked how often serious acting offers came her way. "But they're funny offers," the star of Yentl and Funny Face said. "Well, one was good. It was something that Peter Bogdanovich was going to do, and Guillermo del Toro sent it to me, I think. It's a subject that I actually love, but I'm not going to tell you. I'm not ready to direct again. I think I've probably had it."

Mahershala Ali is still keen on doing ‘Blade'
Los Angeles: Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali stepped out onstage during Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, where producer Kevin Feige announced that the actor would be playing the vampire slayer Blade. However, it was 6 years ago. The film would have rebooted the character first originated on-screen by Wesley Snipes and adding him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reports 'Variety'. Since then, the project has dropped numerous directors, lost cast members and faced several delays. But even through all that turbulent development, Ali shared that he's keen to start filming on 'Blade'. 'Call Marvel', Ali said at the New York premiere of his new film 'Jurassic World Rebirth'. The actor kept his answer brief when asked when 'Blade' production could start. He told 'Variety', 'I'm ready. Let them know I'm ready'. Marvel Studios first announced 'Blade' in 2019, alongside other projects like Disney Plus series 'WandaVision', 'Loki' and 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' as well as movies like 'Eternals', 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' and 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'. But while all those projects have been produced and released, Marvel Studios is still trying to ice-skate uphill with 'Blade'. As per 'Variety', last October, Disney removed 'Blade' from its release calendar altogether, taking it off a November 7, 2025 release date. That came after numerous prior delays, the film's first official release date was November 3, 2023. The project first saw filmmaker Bassam Tariq sign on to direct the movie, before he exited in September 2022, roughly two months before a planned production start. Since then, director Yann Demanger has also joined and exited. Actors Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo were reportedly attached to star alongside Ali, but both have since revealed that they have left the project. 'It was really exciting conceptually, but it was also exciting in terms of the character that was going to form. And then, for whatever reason, it just went off the rails', Lindo told Entertainment Weekly about the project back in April. Back in November, Feige said that Marvel Studios was 'still committed' to 'Blade'.

Amber Heard returns to acting in first role since Johnny Depp divorce trial: 'In my theatre era'
Amber Heard is back, and she is coming for the drama, but this time, in a more artistic, less televised way. The Aquaman actress is stepping onto the stage for her first major acting role since the defamation trial that had the whole world grabbing popcorn and choosing sides. Amber Heard trades the courtroom for curtain calls, finally Heard is set to star in Spirit of the People, a gritty and genre-defying play by acclaimed playwright Jeremy O. Harris (Slave Play, remember?). The production is slated to premiere this July at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and the buzz is louder than her courtroom gavel days. 'In my theatre era,' Heard declares her dramatic rebirth Taking to social media with a casual-but-iconic selfie with Harris, Heard confirmed the comeback in the most fun way possible: 'In my theatre era x.' Subtle flex? Absolutely. The cast list is stacked too, featuring Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Ato Blankson-Wood, James Cusati-Moyer, and more. It is giving art-school chaos, and we are here for it. The play reportedly dives into 'uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it.' Yep, it is not just a comeback—it is a statement. The trial that rocked her world Let us rewind a little. Amber's life spiralled into full-blown tabloid chaos back in 2022 during her courtroom face-off with Johnny Depp. The exes, who finalised their divorce in 2017, went head-to-head after Heard wrote a 2018 op-ed claiming she was a survivor of sexual violence. Depp, although unnamed in the piece, sued for defamation, and won. Millions in damages, a courtroom circus streamed live, and a meme war of the decade later, Heard disappeared from the acting world. Heard is now a mum of three! As if a dramatic acting return was not enough, Heard chose Mother's Day 2025 to casually reveal that she is now the mother of twins. Sharing a snap of tiny baby feet, she introduced the world to daughter Agnes and son Ocean, who now join big sister Oonagh. Heard really said, 'Let me just soft-launch two babies and a theatre comeback.' From courtroom tears to stage lights and nappy changes, Amber Heard's renaissance is nothing short of a spectacle. Whether you stan her or not, one thing is clear, she is not going quietly.
