Lydia Ko prepares for Erin Hills watching YouTube as rookie Australian prepares for first tour start at US Open

Newly married Jennifer Elliott will play her first LPGA Tour event in this week's US Open as one of six Australians teeing off at the 'big' Erin Hills layout set to demand more of all players in pursuit of the biggest winner's cheque in women's golf.
Elliott, from Perth, will tee it up at the 6200m monster that future Hall of Famer Lydia Ko called 'difficult but fun', having just one start on the secondary Epson Tour under her belt after finishing at Sam Houston State University in Texas.
She earnt her way into the event through local qualifying in Texas, as did compatriot Grace Kim, who with 2022 US Open winner Minjee Lee, Hannah Green, Gabi Ruffels and Steph Kyriacou rounds out the Australian contingent in pursuit of the $3.6m winner's cheque.

Elliot is joining the big time at the right time, with purses hitting record levels. There's more than $200m in prizemoney available on the LPGA Tour in 2025, and so far, through the opening 12 events, there's yet to be an Australian winner.
Things don't get easier in Wisconsin on the brutish Erin Hills layout that Ko, who could get a step closer to a career major grand slam with a US Open title, learnt by watching YouTube videos.
Not videos of Brooks Koepka's win in the men's US Open at the same venue in 2017 but instead a video of the Bryan brothers, Wesley and George, trying to break par.
'It's probably not the preparation that many of the other players did, but it was just a good way for me to kind of see the golf course,' she said.
Lee, who made the move to a long putter after a back-nine capitulation while leading in the final round of the US Open last year, enters the tournament ranked 22, the lowest she has been on the rankings since 2015, having spent the bulk of the past decade in the top 20 and top 10.
The former world No.2 hasn't won since anywhere since 2023 but is a proven major performer, having only missed the cut seven times in 55 major appearances and only once, in 2015, from 11 US Open appearances.
Green, Australia's highest-ranked player, male or female, at No.8, has also made the cut in all six US Open starts, but is yet to record a top-10 finish.

Champion pacer Leap To Fame to switch to standing-start racing at Albion Park on Saturday night

Champion pacer Leap To Fame will take a surprise step right outside his comfort zone at Albion Park on Saturday night. For just the second time in more than four years and 65 race starts, Leap To Fame will switch from mobile start to standing-start racing. His only other standing-start race was on June 8 last year when Leap To Fame came off a 20m handicap to emphatically win the Flashing Red Discretionary at Albion Park over 2647m. The six-year-old's task will be even harder this week off the maximum 30m handicap and the race being over the shorter 2138m trip. Despite Leap To Fame winning first-up from a break at Albion Park last Saturday night, his trainer-driver Grant Dixon was moved to back him up quickly. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. 'Trista I felt he could do with another two races before the Inter Dominion starts and that meant we really had to back him up this week. 'There was also the option of a mobile sprint race, but there are a few reasons we opted for the stand. 'He will get more conditioning from a race like this stand, especially over 2138m. Big surprise in the fields for this Saturday night- Jun 7 Leap To Fame will start in Race 6- a standing start handicap over 2138m. From 30m ðŸ'€ ðŸ'€ — The Creek (@TheCreekAlbion) June 2, 2025 'And we are thinking about taking him to the NZ Cup later in the year, which is a standing start and this could be one of the last suitable opportunities we get to show him the (standing start) tapes and see how he handles it. 'The Flashing Red and Redcliffe Cups are coming, but he'll get 30m in both of those. The Flashing Red will be a lot stronger than this week's race and Redcliffe isn't really a suitable race for him.' He eyeballed his most recent foe, Don Hugo then put him, and the rest, to the sword to once again prove who's boss in the pacing world ðŸ'° — RaceQ (@RaceQLD) April 4, 2025 Dixon said racing again this week meant Leap To Fame could return to mobile start racing for his final lead-up race on June 21. 'Then he'll have had the three weeks and get a two-week gap before the first round of (Inter Dominion) heats (July 5),' Dixon said. Dixon felt Leap To Fame, who won narrowly but impressively first-up at Albion Park last Saturday night, needed more racing before the Inter Dominion starts on July 5. Leap To Fame makes it career win 51 and 34 at The Creek to take out The Somerset Farms Avonnova Open defeating Wisper A Secret — The Creek (@TheCreekAlbion) May 31, 2025 'I thought he should've won a bit easier and that he'd need two more runs, not just one, before the heats. 'That really meant we had to back-up this week and it made more sense on a few levels to go to this (standing start) race rather than a 1660m mobile. This will be a better conditioning run. 'It means he can run this week, have two weeks to his third run back and then another two weeks before the first round of heats.' THE CHAMP GOES BACK-TO-BACK! Another successful raid by the Queenslanders Grant Dixon and Leap To Fame, who secure a second-straight victory in the Decron Cranbourne Gold Cup! — The Trots (@TheTrotsComAu) February 8, 2025 Less than an hour after Leap To Fame steps out, his major Brisbane Inter Dominion rival Don Hugo will return from a let-up in the seventh race at Menangle on Saturday night. Don Hugo upset Leap To Fame in the Miracle Mile on March 8, but the latter turned the tables with a powerhouse win when they last met in the $1 million Race by betcha at Cambridge on April 4. They have clashed three times and Leap To Fame leads 2-1. @ClubMenangle — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) March 8, 2025

WA Senator Dorinda Cox wiped from Greens website minutes after shock defection to Labor

WA Senator Dorinda Cox has been wiped from the website and MP listings of her former party following her shock defection to Labor. Donning a maroon shirt and a massive smile, Senator Cox addressed the media on Monday afternoon alongside the Prime Minister at Perth's Kings Park. The Greens, her former party, were alerted to the defection a mere hour and half earlier. Senator Cox had been removed from the Greens' official website by the end of the press conference, with the URL link to her profile scrubbed and replaced with an 'ACCESS DENIED' banner. She also no longer appears in the listings of the party's representatives. Leader Larissa Waters questioned how the senator's values could align with a party that last week approved the North West Shelf gas project. 'The Greens are disappointed in Senator Cox's decision to leave the Greens and join the Labor Party as a backbencher,' Senator Waters said. 'Senator Cox has said that her values align with the Labor Party. 'This is the same Labor Party who this week approved the climate wrecking North West Shelf gas project, which UNESCO advises will destroy significant First Nations heritage and ancient rock art.' Senator Waters said Senator Cox would have had 'more chance of effecting change by continuing to work with the Greens in the sole balance of power'. 'The Greens are committed to continuing to work for Truth, Treaty and Justice with First Nations people and will continue to work to protect country and the climate that is under such threat from Labor Party decisions in Western Australia,' she said. 'We wish her well.' A statement by the Greens confirmed they had received notice of the move 'an hour prior'. It comes following months of internal conflict with the Greens, her former party, with several former staffers coming forward with bullying allegations against the senator. Up to 20 staff left the office of Senator Cox in three years, Nine News reported in October. Anthony Albanese said he was comfortable those complaints had been adequately addressed. 'We examined everything that had been considered in the past. Those issues were dealt with appropriately,' he said. 'My government has established very clear guidelines, meaning that any issues relating to workplaces and making sure that workplaces are safe are properly examined. They were all dealt with in Senator Cox's case and dealt with appropriately.' A former staffer told The Australian while it was not surprising to see Senator Cox part ways with the Greens, it was 'shocking' to see her accepted into the Labor fold by Mr Albanese. 'It is disturbing that Labor and the Prime Minister would welcome into their party someone with such a history of alleged bullying.'
