Mystery as two young female students killed at University of Wisconsin dorm

Daily Mail20-05-2025

Two young women were killed at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in an 'isolated incident' just days after graduation.
Kelsie Martin, 22, and Hallie Helms, 22, died Monday at Wilgus Hall, a dormitory on campus.
Police have shared few details on the incident, but sources told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel a shooting allegedly occurred around 4 p.m.
Staff and students at the public university - where roughly 6,500 people study - were put on lockdown after police reported an 'emergency situation.'
The order was lifted just after 5 p.m. when police determined it was not an active, ongoing threat, reported WMTV.
'I have to point out that this is an ongoing, active law enforcement investigation, and I really don't have a lot of specific details at this time as it's still very fluid,' said UW-Platteville Police Chief Joe Hallman.
University Chancellor Dr. Tammy Evetovich released the victims' identities around 11 p.m., revealing they died in a 'targeted and isolated event,' according to WPR.
'It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of two UW-Platteville students, Kelsie Martin, 22, of Beloit, Wisconsin, and Hallie Helms, 22, of Baraboo, Wisconsin,' Evetovich said.
'This incident was a targeted and isolated event between the two individuals. Families of the students have been notified.'
A commencement program showed both women graduated on Saturday, Helms with a degree in elementary education and Martin with a degree in psychology.
According to a post from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville: Residence Life, Martin was the assistant resident director at Wilgus Hall.
She had worked for campus residence life for three years and said she applied for the role because 'I wanted to help people the same way my RA helped me through my first year on campus.'
Martin listed a fun fact about herself: 'I own over 400 books and want to have my own in-home library one day.'
The university canceled the remaining final exams and had counseling services available to students.
'We've canceled these final exams, and this extends to the Platteville and Baraboo campus because we are a close-knit community,' said Provost Laura Reynolds.
'Both the faculty and staff, as well as the students, need time to be together. They need time to work through this together.
'We are deeply saddened, and know this event has negative impact on our Pioneers, and we know students will want to be able to focus on their own well-being and spend time with friends and families.'
Students told the local news station they were shocked to learn about the tragedy and frustrated with the lack of information from officials.
'I was kind of terrified for a second, honestly,' said Kirra Kamp, a sophomore. 'It's kind of something you hear happens but nothing that you actually think is gonna happen to you in your school until it happens. It's insane to see stuff like this happen.'
'It's kind of scary, honestly, because it's like obviously there are a lot of rumors going around,' said junior Andrew Roubinek.
'There are a lot of open-ended questions with a lot of things, and I came here to hopefully get some actual, don't want to say closure, but some actual news about it, which ended up being quite uneventful tonight.'

Antonio Brown makes shocking sexual claim about Gavin Newsom's wife in latest worrying social media rant

Ex-NFL star Antonio Brown has waded into the ongoing LA riots crisis by claiming he had an affair with the wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom. In his latest social media bombshell, Brown sent a message to Newsom simply claiming 'I had sex wit ur wife Gavin', after the politician revealed he is suing President Donald Trump. There is no evidence to suggest that Brown's latest incendiary post is based in truth, but it quickly went viral and created a huge reaction from the public. Brown then went on to reply to a series of messages he received in response, with one telling him he 'should be taking care of his kids', to which he commented: 'Thanks for the advice dude.' In a separate tweet, Brown posted about Newsom's wife again while including a picture of a sex toy, and also made vulgar comments about their alleged 'affair'. Newsom, 57, and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom, 50, have been married since 2008, prior to which he was wedded to Kimberly Guilfoyle - also Trump's ex - for five years. Brown's social media outburst is just the latest controversy to surround the ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneers star, who has regularly been in headlines for all the wrong reasons since hanging up his cleats back in 2021. Just last month, shocking video showed the troubled football star appearing to pull out a gun before 'fighting off attackers' in a wild brawl outside a boxing event in Miami. In videos which quickly flooded social media, Brown can be seen brawling with a group of men whom he later claimed were attempting to 'steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me'. In an interview with the Daily Mail in the days that followed, the alleged attacker claimed the Brown instigated the violent incident and shot him in the neck. Newsom, meanwhile, is likely too busy to see Brown's tweets at him on social media, given the ongoing violence that has flooded LA in recent days. Chaos erupted over the weekend after protestors clashed with immigration officials, leading to three days of violence and 74 arrests. In a bizarre social media outburst, Brown replied to a tweet from Newsom about suing Trump Hundreds of Marines have since been mobilized to Los Angeles, along with the National Guard, leading to fury from Newsom who claims that he was not notified of the decision by Trump. In a new post on X, the Governor wrote: 'I was just informed Trump is deploying another 2,000 Guard troops to L.A. 'The first 2,000? Given no food or water. Only approx. 300 are deployed — the rest are sitting, unused, in federal buildings without orders,' he claimed. 'This isn't about public safety. It's about stroking a dangerous President's ego. 'This is Reckless. Pointless. And Disrespectful to our troops.' The announcement came just moments before California state representatives officially filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration for sending in the National Guard. 'One of the cornerstones of our Nation and our democracy is that our people are governed by civil, not military, rule,' Newsom wrote in a follow-up post on X. 'The Founders enshrined these principles in our Constitution — that a government should be accountable to its people, guided by the rule of law, and one of civil authority, not military rule.'

Diddy On Trial Diddy's ex: 'I wanted to stop having sex with other men'

The former partner of Sean 'Diddy' Combs has testified about wanting to stop having sex with other men, and told the court about their arguments. 'Jane', who is using a pseudonym to protect her identity, told the court they had both been physically violent and that Diddy 'punched, kicked and dragged her'. 'Jane' will be cross-examined by Sean 'Diddy' Combs' defence team on Tuesday. The judge also gave the government prosecutors a day to respond to a motion for a mistrial that Diddy's legal team filed over the weekend, which alleged prosecutorial misconduct. Anoushka Mutanda-Dougherty speaks to CBS national news correspondent Jericka Duncan about the day in court. Sean 'Diddy' Combs is on trial in New York, facing federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering with conspiracy and transportation for prostitution. He denies all the charges.
