Nearly 50,000 Huffy ride-on toy vehicles recalled for burn, fire hazards. Here's what to do
It's not just the family car getting recalls. Two Huffy toy ride-on vehicles have been recalled for potential burn hazards, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced April 24.
About 23,500 ride-on versions of the familiar yellow Tonka dump truck were recalled because the controller can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards, the CPSC said.
Nearly 25,000 ride-on UTVs (utility task vehicles) sold exclusively at Walmart suffer from improper wiring, the agency said, which could cause the toy to catch fire.
The Huffy Corporation is offering a controller replacement for the truck and free repair for the UTV or a $40 reimbursement if you have the repair done by a third party. Either way, customers should stop using the vehicles immediately until the problem can be addressed.

Models: 17310 and 17249, with date codes between 16919 to 11122. The date code label is located next to the UPC label under the body of the unit near the rear wheel. The UTV toy was sold at Walmart stores and at walmart.com from August 1, 2019 through December 18, 2024.
Problems: Connector degradation in the wiring may lead to overheating and could cause units to smoke or even catch on fire
What to do: Immediately discontinue use, turn it off and disconnect the battery. Contact Huffy's Customer Care Department at 800- 872-2453 (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. ET, Monday – Friday), or email service@huffy.com to schedule a free repair, or to be reimbursed up to $50 if you have the repair done by a third party

Police investigating after stolen car crashes near Evergreen Park shopping center; 1 dead
Evergreen Park police said one person died in a crash when a stolen car plowed into another vehicle near a shopping center in Evergreen Park. As of 11:20 a.m., crews were working to reconstruct the two-car crash that was in the Walmart parking lot and on 95th Street, across from Evergreen Plaza. CBS Skywatch was over the scene, were a dark gray car with severe front-end damage was against the median and sidewalk separating the parking lot from 95th Street. A light gray car with severe side impact and back-end damage was in the corner of the parking lot. Police said officers responded to a report of a stolen car at the Speedway Gas Station on 95th Street. When they arrived, police said a woman got out of the car and went into the gas station while the man behind the wheel sped away. Police said the driver of the stolen car crashed into another car at 95th and Campbell. The car was going fast enough that it appeared to have sent the other car spinning into the Walmart parking lot, damaging or knocking over several trees in the process. The driver of the stolen car was taken to Christ Medial Center where he was pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the other car was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The woman who was with the man driving the stolen car was taken into custody at the gas station.
