Your COVID memories

Axios17-03-2025

As we reflect on how the last five years changed our lives and our city, we asked for your most poignant early pandemic memories.
Why it matters: The ways we survive, thrive and find joy are the ties that bind us as a community. Thank you for sharing with us.
Here's a bit of what Axios Indianapolis readers had to say:
👯 "I was depressed being cooped up in the house, so I convinced the husband to put on Halloween costumes in April," Stephanie said. "It was a much-needed change of pace!"
🏡 "Pre-COVID, I hated working from home," Hilary said. "Next month, we're finally going back to the office two days per week … and I don't want to drag myself away from my cozy home office!"
🙏 "I'm only here today BECAUSE of the PANDEMIC," shared Ty. "I had a heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest on April 22, 2020 after a home workout," he wrote. "Thanks to my family being home because of the shutdown, I was able to receive the life-saving care from my family and neighbors."
🥳 My May 9, 2020 birthday "remains one of my favorite birthdays," Dawn says. "My partner at the time served me breakfast in bed before we geared up and went on a motorcycle ride. We ended up in Crown Hill Cemetery, which is, to me, beautiful, tranquil, and sobering ... That evening, my closest friends and I watched Cats — yes, that movie — together via our respective laptops."
"The movie was campy and terrible, but sharing that sense of camaraderie with my friends, even though we were miles apart, was something I'll never forget."

Proactive Man Starts Working On Dracula Impression Early So It Ready For Halloween

BEVERLY, MA—Launching into preparations months early in an effort to get a head start, proactive local man Mark Cromwell was reportedly already working on his Dracula impression Wednesday so it would be ready for Halloween. 'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to having a world-class Count Dracula voice,' said Cromwell, confirming he had purchased a rehearsal pair of fangs weeks ago so he could practice enunciating perfectly through the costume teeth. 'At this point, it's just 45 minutes of Dracula voice in the morning and 45 minutes before bed, which is much more manageable than trying to cram all that work in during the first few weeks of October. Right now, my impression is still pretty indebted to Bela Legosi, but I've been studying everyone from Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula to Christopher Lee in the Hammer films to make sure I can bring my own spin to the performance that won't seem like a ripoff. The last thing I want to do is panic on the day and end up saying something stupid like 'Bleh!'' At press time, Cromwell was said to be contemplating a pivot to a mummy costume after realizing a Dracula impression could take a lifetime to fully perfect.

50 Cent Claims He Will Talk To Donald Trump About Potentially Pardoning Diddy, X Applauds His Commitment To Being A Hater

Source: Getty Images / Bernard Smalls / 50 Cent / Diddy Allegedly, Diddy is out here trying to get a pardon from Donald Trump while he continues to them hand out like Halloween candy, but 50 Cent wants to make sure that his long-time rival rots in a prison cell. Using his favorite soapbox, Instagram, in a series of now-deleted posts, 50 Cent is letting his followers know that he's not playing regarding his hate for Diddy and that he will do whatever it takes to keep Diddy from securing a pardon from Felon 47. 'He said some really bad things about Trump, it's not ok. Im gonna reach out so he knows how I feel about this guy,' the G-Unit general said in one Instagram post. In another, he added, 'Donald doesn't take well to disrespect, and doesn't forget who chooses to go against him. while working tirelessly to make America great again there is no room for distraction. He would consider pardoning anyone who was being mistreated not Puffy Daddy.' Is Trump Seriously Considering Pardoning Diddy? Now, it's unlikely that Trump will grant the disgraced rapper/mogul a pardon, but he was asked about it during a Friday press conference, telling reporters, 'People have been very close to asking' regarding a pardon for Diddy. However, he claims that no one has reached out to him yet. 'I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody is mistreated, whether they like me or don't like me, it wouldn't have any impact on me.' 🔥🚨BREAKING: Trump just floated the idea of pardoning Diddy. Not because of the evidence. Not because of the facts. But because, and I quote, 'He used to really like me a lot.' — Brian Allen (@allenanalysis) May 30, 2025 50 Cent Claims He Wants To Make Trump 'Aware' of Diddy In a hilarious twist, 50 Cent tried to clarify his comments after The Daily Beast reported on him trying to 'nuke' Diddy's chances for a pardon. Brooklyn Beckham, Nicola Peltz Met Through Leonardo DiCaprio

Whispers surrounding the Beckham feud have been dominating the celebrity news cycle in recent months, with it being widely reported that eldest son, Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, are estranged from his family. It all started when the couple skipped not one, but all three of his dad, David Beckham's, 50th birthday celebrations, with a source telling People last month: 'There are tensions between Brooklyn and Nicola and the family,' before insisting that 'the relationship is definitely not beyond repair.' Amid all of this, Brooklyn raised eyebrows when he called Nicola his 'whole world' in a soppy Instagram post, which read: 'My whole world x I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you're the most amazing person i know xx me and you forever baby❤️❤️'In the comments, many interpreted Brooklyn's caption to be a dig at his family — particularly his parents — and his youngest brother, Cruz Beckham, appeared to have some feelings about it, too. Soon after Brooklyn's post went live, Cruz shared a telling statement to his Instagram a family photo from September 2024, which included Brooklyn but not Nicola, 20-year-old Cruz wrote: 'I love my family, I love you guys more than anything, mum & dad, you gave us life and cared for us no matter what, I cannot tell you how blessed we all are to have you in our lives x.' But in a new interview with Glamour Germany, Brooklyn seemingly doubled down on his staunch loyalty to Nicola, telling the publication that she is his 'home.' For reference, the British star relocated to the United States to live with his wife in Los Angeles, with the rest of his family remaining in the United Kingdom. In the interview, the publication asked Brooklyn: 'What's something about love you didn't know before this relationship?' and he replied: 'You should marry your best friend. Someone who feels like home. For me, that's Nicola.' Brooklyn also suggested that he is not fazed by the constant scrutiny that their relationship with his family faces. When asked how he protects their romance in the spotlight, he said: 'Ignore the noise. Keep your head down, work hard, be kind. People are always going to talk. What matters is that we're happy together.' 'It's not always easy,' Nicola then added, alluding to the headlines about them. 'On TikTok, there are always random stories popping up about us. When I see fake news, my instinct is to shut it down. But it's not worth it. I just scroll past and move on.' Elsewhere in the interview, Brooklyn and Nicola revealed the incredibly surprising A-lister who played an integral part in their relationship. In case you didn't know, the two technically first met at Coachella in 2017, but they were both in relationships with other people at the time. They then reconnected at a Halloween party hosted by none other than actual Leonardo DiCaprio in 2019, and the rest is history. Discussing the moment that she saw him at Leo's bash, Nicola said: 'I turned around and there he was, hiding in a giant bush.' 'There were paparazzi everywhere and I didn't want to be photographed, so yeah, I ended up in a bush,' Brooklyn, who would have been 20 years old at the time, explained. Nicola, who was 24, added: 'One of my friends was having trouble getting in, so I asked Brooklyn for help and he didn't hesitate. Two days later, we had our first kiss. That's when the story really began.'Recalling their first date, Brooklyn said: 'We were out with friends at a club, but the energy was off. So we left and drove to the beach. Just the two of us.''I didn't want him staying over that night, so we kept dreaming up random adventures just to stay together a little longer,' Nicola shared. 'It was sweet, it was chill, it just felt right.' In case you missed it, Brooklyn and Nicola's interview dropped just days after it was reported that his mom, Victoria Beckham, had hijacked their first dance on their wedding day back in 2022. "Marc Anthony, who is a friend of the Beckhams, offered to perform as a gift at the wedding,' a source told People last week. "Before the song began, Marc Anthony asked Brooklyn to come to the stage, and then announced, 'The most beautiful woman in the room tonight, come on Beckham!'" The insider added that Nicola felt like Victoria 'ruined her wedding, and couldn't understand why,' with a second source telling the publication: "It was such a jaw-dropping moment that it left the whole room in absolute shock — you could hear a pin drop.'Victoria is said to have started slow dancing with Brooklyn, and everyone then saw 'Nicola run from the room crying.'It's worth noting that none of the people involved have publicly commented on this report, but Cruz did appear to suggest that it wasn't true with a cryptic post to his Instagram story that was shared soon after People's article was published. 'It takes 43 muscles in your face to frown And 17 to smile,' the mysterious post began, before pointedly adding: 'Be kind and tell the truth.'
