Posing as HYDRAA: Duo threatens city family; booked by police, probe underway

HYDERABAD: The Narsingi police have booked two persons for allegedly threatening a family in Alkapur township in Neknampur, while falsely claiming association with HYDRAA. The incident occurred on June 23.

According to the complaint, the accused - Miriyala Vedantham (22), a car driver from Karimnagar district, and Yelisetti Shoban Babu, a retired RTC employee from Puppalaguda - arrived at the property around 3.20 pm in a car. They reportedly entered the compound and began inspecting the premises.
When Mallikarjun, a worker present at the house, questioned their presence, the duo allegedly claimed to be from HYDRAA and said they were collecting information.
They also warned that the house would be demolished. When asked to speak with the homeowner, they quietly left.
Police have since taken both men into custody and are investigating the motive behind the threats. In response, HYDRAA issued a statement distancing itself from the accused and condemning the misuse of its name. HYDRAA urged the public to report such incidents to the police and share any related details, including photos or videos, via WhatsApp at 8712406899.

Gujarat-based dairy cooperative society Amul has warned customers about a scam where fake vouchers are being distributed on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. This scam features the popular 'Amul girl' image alongside the brand's logo, offering ₹ 5,000 to customers when they click a link. In a post on the social media platform X, Amul issued a public interest advisory and wrote, 'We wish to inform you (that) a fake gift voucher message featuring the Amul Girl is being shared on WhatsApp and social media. This voucher has not been created by Amul.' The brand further said, 'In the said message, a webpage link is autogenerated and is misleading the customers to fraudulent websites.' Amul informed that they blacklisted many such links and will take legal action as well against the perpetrators of such a fraudulent scheme. Amul has recommended three measures for customers to prevent falling victim to such scams. Customers are urged to avoid clicking on any such links. Upon receiving such a message or a link, customers must share the information alert with those who have shared the fake message with them. KALYAN: On Thursday on occassion of International Drug Day globally public awareness was organised by Zone 3 of Thane police at B.K Birla college in Kalyan. On the occasion of International Drug Day, various programs have been organized by the Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbare, in order to create awareness among the citizens and students about drugs and their side effects through all the police stations and the Anti-Drug Squad in the jurisdiction of Thane Police Commissionerate. Accordingly, a seminar was organized by the Zone 3 where Additional commissioner of police Sanjay Jadhav, DCP Zone 3 Atul Zende, ACP Kalyanji Ghete and Director of B.K Birla college Dr Naresh Chandra and Principal Avinash Patil were present to create public awareness about drugs and the side effects of their consumption among the children studying in colleges. Investment-based scams are on the rise in India. A Kolkata-based doctor has reportedly become the latest victim of such a cyber scam, losing Rs 36 lakh. The victim was lured into a fake investment opportunity after clicking on an advertisement on Facebook. He was duped over a period of two months after being enticed by an investment scheme advertised on the to a report by The Telegraph, the doctor, who is a resident of Barasat, came across an advertisement on Facebook promoting what appeared to be a legitimate financial investment platform. Thinking he might receive some financial advice and earn extra money, he clicked on the ad. The ad redirected him to a WhatsApp group that posed as a forum for stock market guidance and financial tips. The doctor was later added to the group by its admins. In the group, he encountered persuasive messages from other members, which convinced him that the platform was genuine. The scammers also directly persuaded him, and he began investing his money in phases—making ten separate transactions that ultimately totalled Rs 36 lakh. It was only when the doctor attempted to withdraw his supposed returns and found himself locked out of the investment account. Realising he has been scammed, the doctor then approached the authorities and filed a this, the state CID reportedly launched an investigation. During the enquiry, officials arrested Prosenjit Ranjan Nath, a 34-year-old film producer and entrepreneur, from his apartment near Madurdaha, Anandapur. According to police, Nath is the key beneficiary of the syphoned funds. The investigation revealed that Rs 18 lakh of the stolen amount had been funnelled into a company operated by Nath, named The Local Brand Shop. While Nath is currently in custody, police are continuing to investigate the full extent of the scam and identify other individuals who may have been involved. Meanwhile, authorities have urged internet users to remain vigilant and not fall for misleading ads on social media. Paid advertisements on platforms like Facebook can be promoted by anyone willing to pay, making them a common tool for scammers to target unsuspecting to stay safe from online investment scams– Do not click on any advertisement unless you are certain about its authenticity.
