Chido Obi's brace saves Manchester United blushes in win over Hong Kong

Last week's Europa League final defeat to fellow Premier League strugglers Tottenham compounded the Red Devils' worst top-flight campaign since suffering relegation 51 years ago. United travelled to Asia straight after Sunday's game against Aston Villa for a pair of friendlies, which are worth in the region of £8million for a club facing a first season without European football since 2014-15. Amorim's side were booed on Wednesday after losing 1-0 to the ASEAN All-Stars in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur and returned to action in challenging conditions at the Hong Kong Stadium two days later. Departing Jonny Evans made his final appearance for the club in a side that included captain Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho, who both started amid widespread speculation over their respective futures. United dominated from the outset but, like to so often this season, an inability to take their chances was punished as Juninho put Hong Kong ahead against the run of play with a shot that squirmed past Tom Heaton in the 19th minute. Mason Mount was denied a penalty as the clock wound down and provided a fine 82nd-minute cross that was glanced home by striker Obi. Ayden Heaven, who like Obi joined from Arsenal this season, completed the victory against Hong Kong with a stoppage-time header.

Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid on June 1 after early €10m deal is agreed

The new Premier League champions confirmed a deal had been reached for him to join Real prior to the expiry of his Liverpool contract on June 30, and Real said this would enable the England international to play for the Spanish side at this summer's Club World Cup. The Reds confirmed a fee had been paid to secure the 26-year-old's services at the start of June rather than from July 1, with Real announcing Alexander-Arnold had agreed a six-year contract. A Liverpool club statement said: 'Alexander-Arnold joined the club's academy at the age of six and progressed through the ranks to make his senior competitive debut in October 2016. 'He now departs Anfield after 354 appearances and 23 goals for the club, as well as lifting eight major honours alongside his team-mates, which consist of two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups. 'Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool FC with the club appreciative and grateful for his contribution to those successes.' It is understood Liverpool will benefit to the tune of £10million from the transfer – a combination of a 10m euro (£8.4m) payment from Real to secure Alexander-Arnold's services early, and money saved on four weeks' wages to the player. Sources close to the Merseyside club say Real first registered an interest in the player last December, and since then their football department has been determined to protect the best interests of the club. The money secured appears to represent good business for Liverpool, amid early indications Real would only be willing to pay £850,000 to secure the player's services before the expiry of his Liverpool contract. Alexander-Arnold confirmed on May 5 he would be leaving Liverpool this summer, and was booed by fans during the subsequent home match against Arsenal. However, he was warmly welcomed by fans at Anfield during the final game of the season against Crystal Palace last Sunday, with the player saying he had 'never felt so loved'.

Fans fear attacker will choose England over Ireland with €35m deal agreed

Fans fear Liam Delap will opt for England over Ireland, with the attacker seemingly on the verge of joining Chelsea in a €35million move. The forward scored 12 goals for Ipswich in the Premier League this season. Delap's father Rory played for the Boys in Green 11 times and also represented Ireland at U21 level. However, his son is heading to Slovakia next month to represent England's Under-21s at the European Championship, but he is still eligible to play for Ireland. Heimir Hallgrímsson has met with the attacker and hasn't given up hope that he might one day play for Ireland despite the fact he has represented England at every age group except the senior side, unlike Jack Grealish and Declan Rice, who represented Ireland at various levels before switching to England. Asked if he had spoken with the 22-year-old, the Ireland manager said this week: 'We have sat with him, yeah, just told him we would love to have him in our camp. 'But, like I said, the focus is on the [England] Under-21s.' When asked if the former Manchester City youth player showed any interest in a switch, Hallgrímsson replied: 'Well he didn't say f**k off!' However, Ireland fans believe it is very unlikely that the forward will switch international allegiance to play for the Boys in Green. One wrote online: "He won't play for us. HH just doing his job to get him in. Worth a try." Another commented: "I'm sure Liam met him out of respect since his dad played for Ireland , ain't no way he's making the choice to play for Ireland while he has any chance of playing for England senior team." Someone else said: "In the immortal words of the legendary Johnny Giles, 'any young lad worth his salt who was born and raised in England will want to play for England'." "I think the die is cast here. Fair play to Delap he hasn't used the Irish age grades to make his way upwards. He's had a consistent position, good luck to him for the future," read another comment.
