‘AI Is for All': Ministers and experts chart ethical AI roadmap at PadhAI conclave
NEW DELHI: The two-day 'PadhAI: Conclave on AI in Education' organised by Center of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG) commenced on Tuesday with policymakers, academic leaders, and industry experts exploring how artificial intelligence can reshape India's education system while remaining socially inclusive and ethical.
The conclave will conclude on Wednesday with a valedictory address by union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Jitin Prasada, minister of state for commerce and industry, and electronics and IT, delivered the keynote address, underscoring the government's commitment to democratising AI. 'Our government's intent is very clear: AI is for all. It cuts across government and society. We must ensure India leads not just in talent, but in conscience and compassion,' he said, lauding CPRG's international presence, including at the Paris AI Action Summit and the 2024 GPAI Summit in Serbia.
Delhi education minister Ashish Sood emphasized that AI should augment, not replace, the human element in classrooms. The minister said: 'Our vision for Delhi is AI is for all. It is about using technology to democratise education, break barriers, and create opportunities for all students.'
On the evolving role of educators, Vineet Joshi, secretary, department of higher education and UGC chairperson, posed a critical question: 'Are we truly ready to accept AI?' He stressed the urgency of rethinking curricula and assessments, urging teachers to become 'co-creators of knowledge alongside students.'

Man arrested for threatening PM in bid to implicate rival
1 2 Bhagalpur: A 35-year-old man, Sameer Kumar Ranjan of Maheshi village in Bhagalpur district, was arrested on Thursday night for allegedly sending a threat message against PM Narendra Modi via a social media platform, using another man's mobile data in a calculated attempt to implicate him over a property dispute. The threat call was made to the Prime Minister's Office. The alert was triggered on Thursday, coinciding with the PM's two-day visit to Bihar, during which he participated in a roadshow in Patna and a public meeting in Bikramganj. Intelligence agencies including the NIA, IB and Bhagalpur police were placed on high alert. Bhagalpur SSP Hriday Kant formed a special investigation team (SIT) led by DSP (law and order) Chandra Bhushan and including officials from the DIU, CIAT and Sultanganj police. The team began a discreet probe to trace the origin of the message. SSP Hriday Kant said a detailed technical analysis led the SIT to a mobile number registered to a septuagenarian, Mantu Chowdhary of Maheshi village. "He said he is illiterate and uses only a basic keypad phone. He claimed Sameer had trapped him," said the SSP. Sameer had lost his job during the Covid-19 pandemic and had been doing odd jobs, including sharecropping. Police said the threat was part of a deliberate ploy to get Mantu into trouble. "The accused remains in custody at Sultanganj police station under tight security," the SSP said, adding that technical teams will analyse data from the seized cellphone. An expert said VPNs encrypt data and mask IP addresses, making such threats traceable only through in-depth forensic analysis.

The proposed meeting was intended to advance a peace deal between Moscow and Kyiv. Turkey, a member of Nato has striven to maintain an equidistant relationship with both Kyiv and Moscow in the wake of Russian invasion of Ukraine. And has become a key mediator in the conflict on the back of warm relations fostered by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with both Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin. This comes amidst the push by the US President Donald Trump for a deal to end the over three-year war. "We sincerely think that it is possible to cap the first and second direct Istanbul talks with a meeting between Mr Trump, Mr Putin and Mr Zelenskyy, under the direction of Mr Erdogan," Turkey's foreign minister Hakan Fidan said during a visit to Kyiv. India's hospitality sector expected to attract USD 1 bn investments by 2028: Report
India 's hospitality industry, which demonstrated remarkable growth during January-March 2025, is expected to attract USD 1 billion in investments by 2028, a substantial increase from the USD 340 million in hotel transactions recorded last year, a report said on Friday. The Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) surged 16.3 per cent during January-March this year compared to the same period last year, global commercial real estate and investment management company JLL said in a report. Delhi and Mumbai followed with strong RevPAR growth of 26.2 per cent and 21.3 per cent, respectively, supported by robust occupancy levels. Chennai's hospitality market showed notable performance with 18.7 per cent RevPAR growth, attributed to increased corporate travel, the Annual Leather Fair, and the USICON event held at Chennai Trade Centre. Hyderabad also posted solid results with 15.1 per cent RevPAR growth despite a slight occupancy decline, demonstrating strength in rate growth. The development pipeline remained vigorous with 31 new branded hotels (3,253 keys) opening during January-March 2025, added the report.
