Eversource partnering with local artist to raise awareness for disappearing turtle habitats
CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — On World Turtle Day, Eversource is drawing attention to their disappearing habitat.
Eversource offering different options for ratepayers this summer
Eversource officials say that turtles and other reptiles make their homes in powerline corridors — and that's not a great idea.
The company says they constantly work to keep trees and grass cut down in powerline corridors, helping to prevent power outages. However, it places a reptiles home in jeopardy.
Eversource is teaming up with wildlife artist Matt Paterson to bring awareness to this issue. Paterson is giving kids a tutorial via the internet on how to paint the turtle, while providing fun facts.
'All you'll need is a simple set of watercolor paints, a few brushes, a cup of water and a paper towel,' Kaitlyn Woods, external communications manager for Eversource, said. 'You will need the draw of the Blandings Turtle, so we've posted that on our website.'
You and your children can log onto the Eversource website and follow along with the recorded version.

Daphne chaplain back from Israel after mission to comfort children of war
DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — When Chaplain Tony Dickey told friends he wanted to go to Israel, friends told him he was crazy. But Dickey says he knew he could help, especially the children in the war-torn country. Blue Angels to thrill crowds at 2025 Pensacola Beach Air Show (schedule) 'No human being should have to live in fear every night that it might be their last night here on earth,' Dickey told News 5. So he helped organize a trip. But he didn't go alone. He shipped three pallets of a stuffed animal called a 'Comfort Cub.' 'When you take the bear and hold it and you squeeze it, it activates the neurotransmitters in the brain to make the good chemicals offset grief, depression, fear,' said Dickey. He gave away 750 of the weighted teddy bears to children and families in Israel. 'These kids grab these things, run to the bomb shelters, and it brings them peace,' he said. Dickey has been back home for just over a week. He got out one day before Iranian bombs started falling, another reason Israel is never far from his mind. 'Every person over there is going through this. They don't deserve to live a life of terror every night, wondering if a rocket is going to come through their house, come through their shelter.' Fire at Mobile apartment complex displaces 3 families Peace has always been hard to find in the Middle East, but a little comfort is making it a bit more bearable, at least for now. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – On Tuesday, the Little Rock Zoo held a groundbreaking ceremony, marking the start of its expansion project. Zookeeper Jessica Landrum said the updates are long overdue. Little Rock Zoo shares growth update on baby gorilla Beni It's not the usual sights and sounds visitors expect at the zoo, but visitors like Peyton Woodruff believe the construction will be worth it in the end. 'My kids are weirdly obsessed with Komodo dragons. And they're making a bigger part of that too, in the reptile house. So, they've been so excited,' Woodruff said. The expansion will also give families more opportunities to interact with the animals, like feeding lettuce to the tortoises. 'I think that's great. The more you guys can make it more kid interactive. I think, bring it on,' zoo visitor Kerwyn Fells said.
