Cryptic tweets by J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, National Conference MP Ruhullah hint at friction within party

The Hindu25-05-2025

Cryptic tweets on X by J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and ruling National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament (MP) Aga Syed Ruhullah, amid reports of growing ideological differences, on Sunday (May 25, 2025) gave credence to the brewing tension within the ruling party.
Quoting a couplet from a local poet, Janbaaz Kishtwari, Mr. Ruhullah wrote on X: 'Either rise and become such a sukhanvar (orator/poet/speaker) who serves a purpose for the nation; Or sit in the comfort of the zanpaan (palanquin).'
The NC parliamentarian's tweet on X followed Mr. Abdullah's oblique reference post. 'There are doers and there are talkers. That's why I don't talk as much as some people I know.' He did not qualify the tweet or its context further.

These tweets assumed significance as Mr. Ruhullah reportedly expressed a dissenting voice during a meeting of the ruling NC on May 21, where it passed a seven-point resolution in favour of special status and restoration of Statehood.
Sources in the NC said Mr. Ruhullah sought the party's focus towards ideological goalposts like the restoration of Article 370 rather than issues of governance. The MP told the NC meeting to pursue the election manifesto, which promised the release of political prisoners, the restoration of greater autonomy, and the safeguarding of the constitutional identity of J&K, and warned of negative consequences if the party drifted away from its foundational narrative.
However, the NC refuted reports that Mr. Ruhullah left the May 21 meeting in a huff.
'Such reports are fabrications. We talked cordially in the meeting. Ruhullah didn't walk out. He left with permission from Dr. Farooq Abdullah and CM Abdullah due to a family emergency. All members, including him, supported the resolution on special status,' NC leader and MLA Tanvir Sadiq.
'It's an attempt to blunt the NC resolution passed by the NC. It's done by opposition parties,' he added.

Pakistan cannot launch nuclear bombs from sea while India can do it easily, this is due to...

(Image: New Delhi: There are 9 countries in the world that have nuclear weapons and these 9 countries include both India and Pakistan. Time and again, Pakistan has threatened to use its nuclear weapons against India. One such instance was during the recent tension between India and Pakistan, when Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif threatened nuclear attack on India. Despite having nuclear weapons, Pakistan has many weaknesses, one of them is that Pakistan cannot fire nuclear bombs from the sea. Let us tell you what is that weakness due to which Pakistan cannot fire nuclear bombs from the sea. There are only a few countries in the world that have the capability of nuclear triad, that is, such countries have the capability to launch nuclear attacks from all three mediums, land, air and water, in which the first one is land-based missiles, with which nuclear attacks are carried out. The second number includes bombs dropped from aircraft and the third number includes submarines or missiles launched from the sea to attack the enemy from the sea. Pakistan is capable of attacking in the first two ways, but if it comes to a nuclear attack from the sea, then Pakistan's weakness comes out in the open. Pakistan does not have any nuclear submarine yet that can launch a nuclear missile from inside the sea. This is Pakistan's biggest weakness. India has the missile capability of submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM) like K-15 and K-4, which are capable of launching a nuclear attack from inside the sea. On the other hand, Pakistan is still far behind in SLBM technology. Due to low defense budget and lack of technology, Pakistan has not been able to acquire this capability yet. Along with this, the Pakistani Navy is smaller and less developed than India.

'Criminal betrayal of our soldiers': Congress slams Modi Govt over 'failing' to isolate Pakistan

The Congress on Saturday (June 7, 2025) alleged that the Modi government has failed to isolate Pakistan on the global stage after the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a "criminal betrayal" of Indian soldiers and citizens. Congress' head of media and publicity department, Pawan Khera, said instead of strong action against Pakistan, China armed it with fifth-generation jets and missiles and the World Bank and the ADB gave more aid to the neighbouring country. He claimed that the UN Security Council also named Pakistan Vice-Chair of the Anti-Terrorism Committee, just days after the terror attack on Indian soil. "After the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, we expected strong actions and global isolation of Pakistan, but what has actually happened? "China is arming Pakistan with 40 fifth-generation stealth J-35A fighter jets armed with cutting-edge PL-17 missiles. Azerbaijan is investing $2 billion in purchasing 40 Pakistani JF-17 fighter jets," Mr. Khera said. "The World Bank has pledged USD 40 billion for Pakistan's development. The IMF approved USD 1 billion bailout to Pakistan. Russia has signed a USD 2.6 billion agreement to rebuild a steel plant in Karachi," he said in a post on X. Khera also claimed that Kuwait and the UAE have relaxed visa rules and offered 10 billion-dollar investment deals and Pakistan has joined the China International Mediation Organization, gaining greater influence in Asian diplomacy. "The UN Security Council has named Pakistan Vice-Chair of the Anti-Terrorism Committee, just days after a terror attack on Indian soil! "This is not just a diplomatic failure. It is a criminal betrayal of our soldiers and citizens," Mr. Khera said. Another Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury said in a post that IMF gave $1 billion to Pakistan on May 9, the World Bank decided to give $40 billion to Pakistan soon after Operation Sindoor and ADB gave $800 million to Pakistan on June 3, even though the ADB president met PM Modi on June 1. "Have we failed in our Foreign Policy?" she asked. "Why are the 4 terrorists who indulged in Pahalgam carnage still alive and going around?" she said. "You are able to eliminate Naxals, but not able to eliminate these 4 terrorists, even after a month? Who is responsible for the intelligence failure? "151 tours, 72 countries, many hugs, kisses and gifts. Still no results. India needs answers," Chowdhury said. The Congress leader also said that a special session of Parliament was required to ask questions on US President Donald Trump's claims, more than 11 times, of "brokering a ceasefire" between India and Pakistan. "Why is PM Modi not denying his claim?" she asked.
