Odisha: Woman kills man, women in village burn his body
Gajapati (Odisha) [India], June 10 (ANI): A group of women allegedly murdered a man and burnt his body in Gajapati, Odisha. According to Odisha Police, a woman murdered the man due to personal reasons, while other women and a few men helped her burn the body.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Gajapati, Jatindra Kumar Panda, told ANI, 'On 8 June, a report was filed that a man was murdered and set on fire. The deceased's daughter filed the complaint. Our teams, supervised by our DSP, reached the crime scene. He was not seen by anyone for three days. During the investigation, we found that a woman, due to personal reasons, killed him while he was asleep. After killing him, other women of the village and some men as well, took the dead body deep into the forest and set it on fire.'
He added that the woman has admitted to the crime. The police have arrested a total of 10 accused, eight women and two men, in the case.
'Based on evidence, we interrogated the main accused, and she admitted to the crime and narrated the sequence of events. Yesterday we arrested eight women and two men, a total of 10 accused and produced them before the court... Further details are awaited,' SP Panda said.
Meanwhile, on June 6, the Odisha Police in Puri dismantled an arms smuggling and supply syndicate, arresting six men in a special operation led by the Superintendent of Police, Puri, Police said in a statement.
The accused have been identified as Ramesh Parida (29 years), Babu Das (24), Gudu Panda, Kanha, also known as Harichandan Das (20 years), Patita Behera (25 years) and Chittaranjan Purohita. Puri Police have recovered six country-made pistols (mouser) with magazines, 20 numbers of ammunition, three mobile handsets and cash of Rs 2,100.
Further investigation is underway to identify the full network of backwards and forward linkages related to the smuggling operation. (ANI)

Mumbai housing fraud: Woman posing as MHADA officer arrested
Mumbai, June 11 (UNI) The police arrested a woman for allegedly defrauding people of over Rs 1.22 crore by offering them low-cost flats in prime areas of Mumbai under the guise of Maharashtra government official housing schemes, police said on Wednesday. The Dindoshi police station arrested the accused, Bela D'Souza, who was reportedly posing as a senior official with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and promised affordable flats in Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Mahim and Bandra area of the city. Police have identified three more accused in the case, Kedar Satam, Jitendra Rathod, and Girish Rao, who are absconding. All four have been booked for cheating and criminal breach of trust. A complaint was made following which an FIR was registered at Dindoshi police station against the four accused. During the investigation, police tracked down and arrested Bela D'Souza. The remaining three accused are on the run and efforts are underway to locate them, police said. Police suspect the group may have defrauded other individuals using similar tactics. Telangana HC grants bail to Gali Janardhan Reddy, others in Obulapuram mining case
HYDERABAD: In a significant relief to Gali Janardhan Reddy and other accused in the high-profile Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) case, the Telangana High Court on Wednesday granted bail and suspended the sentences imposed by the CBI Special Court. Justice K. Lakshman, hearing the batch of criminal appeals filed on 19 May, 2025, during the Vacation Court, ordered bail for Gali Janardhan Reddy, MLA and Director of OMC and Accused No.2 in the case. Reddy was directed to furnish a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh with two sureties to the satisfaction of the Trial Court. The High Court also suspended the conviction order dated 6 May, 2025, which had sentenced him to seven years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000. As part of the bail conditions, the court directed that Gali Janardhan Reddy must not leave the country without prior permission of the court and must refrain from engaging in any criminal activities.
