Van Poortvliet to join Lions ahead of warm-up fixture against Argentina
Leicester Tigers and England scrumhalf Jack van Poortvliet will join the British and Irish Lions in Dublin as cover for their warm-up fixture against Argentina, the rugby union team said on Tuesday.
The Lions currently have three scrumhalves - Jamison Gibson-Park, Alex Mitchell and Tomos Williams - available in their squad, but Gibson-Park is managing a minor glute strain, prompting Van Poortvliet's inclusion.
The 24-year-old, who has earned 15 caps for England, was named in Steve Borthwick's 36-player training squad on Monday for their match against France XV on Saturday.

Canadian Grand Prix to stay on F1 calendar through 2035
FILE PHOTO: Formula One F1 - Canadian Grand Prix - Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal, Quebec, Canada - June 15, 2025 Formula One Group CEO Stefano Domenicali ahead of the race REUTERS/Mathieu Belanger/File Photo The Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal will stay on the calendar through 2035 after agreeing a four-year extension to the existing deal, Formula One said on Tuesday. The contract renewal also includes a long-term extension to Bell Media's media rights deal, the Liberty Media-owned sport added. Last weekend's grand prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was the 54th edition since the race first featured in the championship in 1967. The Montreal track, named after the late Ferrari great and father of 1997 world champion Jacques, became the permanent host in 1978. "I would like to thank the promoter, Octane Racing Group, for their continued efforts in upgrading this iconic venue in recent years, and all local, regional, and national political stakeholders who have worked closely together to make this event what it is today," said F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali. The race's previous contract extension was to 2029 but two of those years (2020 and 2021) were during the COVID-19 pandemic when Formula One did not visit and the deal was extended to 2031. Next year's race will be held earlier than previously with a new May 24 slot after switching with Monaco and aligning more closely with Miami. Former NFL executive Rolapp appointed PGA Tour CEO
FILE PHOTO: Brian Rolapp, chief operating officer of NFL Media, speaks at the Reuters Global Media Summit in New York November 30, 2011. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo The PGA Tour announced Brian Rolapp as its new CEO on Tuesday with the former NFL executive set to take on the role later this year as Commissioner Jay Monahan transitions his day-to-day responsibilities. A committee consisting of officials such as Monahan, as well as golfers Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, unanimously recommended Rolapp for the role. "A year ago, I informed our Boards that upon completing a decade as Commissioner, I would step down from my role at the end of 2026," Monahan said in a statement. "Since then, we've worked together to identify a leader who can build on our momentum and develop a process that ensures a smooth transition. We've found exactly the right leader in Brian Rolapp." He will serve as CEO of the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Enterprises, the golf circuit's for-profit entity. Rolapp, who joined the NFL in 2003, became the COO of NFL Media and then CEO of NFL Network. He was also the NFL's Chief Media and Business Officer, overseeing the league's commercial businesses, including broadcast and digital rights, and launched its digital platform NFL+. "I come from the National Football League, so I'll be the first to admit - I've got a lot to learn about golf. But I love the game, I play the game, and I am a PGA Tour fan myself," Rolapp said in an open letter. "To that end, I cannot wait to meet every one of our players, get in front of as many fans as possible, and better understand the needs of our partners." In February, the PGA Tour said it was closer to reaching a deal with the Saudi backers of LIV Golf, launched in 2022, which would help end the years-long divide in professional golf. Salernitana-Samp playoff decider moved back after food poisoning
FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Serie A - Juventus v Salernitana - Allianz Stadium, Turin, Italy - May 12, 2024 Salernitana players celebrate after Niccolo Pierozzi scores their first goal REUTERS/Massimo Pinca/File Photo ROME - The Italian Serie B relegation decider has been postponed to Sunday after many Salernitana players suffered food poisoning on the way home from the first leg against Sampdoria. The Serie B league said it had accepted a request from Salernitana to delay the return game which had been scheduled to take place on Friday. The decision was made after considering medical documents produced by the club, as well a criminal complaint Salernitana filed with prosecutors, the league said in a statement. Around 20 players and staff fell ill on the plane taking Salernitana home to Salerno after Sunday's 2-0 loss to Sampdoria in Genoa in the playoff first leg. Salernitana face the prospect of a second consecutive relegation if they cannot overturn their deficit. Former Serie A champions Sampdoria are fighting to avoid a humiliating fall into Serie C for the first time in their 79-year history. The Genoa club were going down at the end of the regular season in May, but were given a lifeline when Brescia were relegated in their place due to financial irregularities.
