HC judgement an embarrassment to State govt: Jagadish Shettar

The Hindu29-05-2025

Karnataka High Court judgement annulling the State government's decision to withdraw cases against some persons who had attacked a police station in old Hubballi, has caused embarrassment to the State government, Jagadish Shettar, MP and former Chief Minister, said on Thursday
'The High Court has quashed the decision of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's Cabinet to withdraw the case of the accused who attacked the police station in old Hubballi. This shows that the Congress policy of minority appeasement is not acceptable. The earlier BJP government and its officials had taken strict legal action against the accused involved in the old Hubballi case. But the Congress government withdrew the cases. Some persons approached the High Court questioning this,' he told reporters.
'The High Court has pronounced the right judgement. I suspect that Chief Minister had not even consulted the law department. All those who were involved in the attack were Muslims and the State government's plans to withdraw the cases has been struck down,' he said.
Mr. Shettar said that the State government's decision to divert water from Hidkal dam to Dharwad was not right. To a query, he said he had not influenced the decision in favour of Dharwad. 'It is strange that the decision was taken by keeping the district in charge Minister in the dark. The State government should clarify its stand,' he said.
He said that the State government was taking undue credit for the development of the Saundatti Yallamma temple, though most of the funds were released by the Union government.

BJP slams Rahul Gandhi, calls him Pakistan's spokesperson

Rahul Gandhi (Picture credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: On the day when Rahul Gandhi 's surrender barb at PM Narendra Modi became a talking point in Pakistan as lawmakers and ministers used his remarks and statements to fuel their anti-India propaganda, BJP on Thursday attacked the Congress MP for alleging that Trump forced India to accept a ceasefire on May 10, with Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan saying he is promoting Pakistan propaganda. "Rahul Gandhi is Pakistan's spokesperson. Pakistan would not acknowledge this and he would deny this. But the Congress leader's conduct is the clinching evidence," Pradhan said, adding, "This is not a conspiracy theory, nor is it motivated by partisanship. The proof is in the public domain and for everyone to see. He has been Pakistan's trumpet." Pradhan said from accusing Hindus and Hindutva of violence to lying that India surrendered to foreign pressure to suspend Operation Sindoor , Rahul has unfailingly parroted Islamabad line. "He copies and pastes statements on Pakistan's website and exposes his stupidity," Pradhan said. Pakistan defence minister Khwaja Asif, in a viral video, could be heard speaking about Rahul's jibe at the Indian govt. "People of India are beginning to realise that their Prime Minister has surrendered," Asif claimed, in an attempt to save his own face after his humiliating takedown during Operation Sindoor. Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju also took note of the viral video and slammed the Congress MP for crossing the line, so much so that it seems to be going against the nation. "There is a limit to stupidity & opposition! There's nobody in Congress Party to tell him that being in the opposition party does not mean, to oppose the nation?" TNN

Bengaluru stampede: RCB official, 3 others sent to judicial custody

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 6 (ANI): A Sessions Court in Bengaluru on Friday remanded four individuals, including senior Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) official Nikhil Sosale and three event managers, to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here. They were arrested in a joint operation by the Cubbon Park Police and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of June 6 (Friday). Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court on Friday granted interim relief to the office bearers of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), who had approached the court seeking the quashing of the FIR registered against them in connection with the stampede, which claimed the lives of 11 people. In an interim order, the court directed the state police to not take any coercive action against them until further orders. The High Court adjourned the case to June 9. KSCA President Raghu Ram Bhat, Secretary A Shankar, Treasurer ES Jairam, and other KSCA office bearers moved the High Court seeking to quash the FIR. Nikhil Sosale had also approached the High Court challenging his arrest. He claimed that he was arrested without any materials and even before the police had conducted a preliminary enquiry. He has thus sought to declare his arrest illegal. On Thursday, the Bengaluru police registered an FIR against the RCB franchise, DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., an event management company; and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for culpable homicide, illegal assembly, and other serious charges. A day after the stampede that claimed the lives 11 people, the Karnataka police suspended multiple IPS officers, including the Bengaluru city police Commissioner, B Dayananda. Apart from Dayananda, Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar HT, Assistant Commissioner of Police Balakrishna and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK were also suspended with immediate effect. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for politicising the recent stampede. His remarks came after the BJP accused the Congress-led state government of making the police a 'scapegoat' in the incident. CM Siddaramaiah said the state government has already taken action against officials who were found to be 'visibly responsible' and 'negligent in their duty.' 'They are doing it for politics. I don't do politics. We have taken action against those who were visibly responsible and found to be negligent in their duty,' the Chief Minister said here. (ANI)

Foreign policy has collapsed, outreach failed: Congress

NEW DELHI: Suggesting that none of the countries the all-party delegations toured denounced Pakistan for terrorism, Congress Friday said Modi govt's foreign policy has collapsed completely, which is evident from even India's all- weather friend Russia stating US President Donald Trump mediated to seal the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. AICC spokesperson Supriya Shrinate referred to Russia's statement that President Vladimir Putin praised Trump for settling the Indo-Pak conflict, arguing that the extraordinary remark came on the back of Trump asserting 11 times that he had threatened trade sanctions to force the ceasefire. She said govt's foreign policy has collapsed as Pakistan which was ostracised as a terrorist country prior to 2014 is back on the world stage, with red carpet welcome being given to its netas, and the country being appointed to big committees of UN besides securing loans from multilateral bodies.
