Centre asks OTT platforms to stop streaming content from Pakistan

The government has asked all over-the-top (OTT) content streaming platforms, media streaming platforms, and internet intermediaries to immediately discontinue streaming of web series, films, songs, podcasts and any other content that has its origin in Pakistan.
In an advisory, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) said that under Part-III of the Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code, also known as the Information Technology Rules (IT) of 2021, all content publishers must take into consideration factors such as whether the content affects the 'sovereignty and integrity of India, threatens, endangers or jeopardises the security of the State, is detrimental to India's friendly relations with foreign countries, and is likely to incite violence or disturb the maintenance of public order' before publishing and airing them for public consumption.
'Several terrorist attacks in India have been established to have cross-border linkages with Pakistan-based State and non-State actors,' the MIB said in its advisory.
The IT Rules of 2021 lay out specific guidelines for internet intermediaries, content OTT and media streaming platforms on the nature of content that can be stored, published or transmitted by them. While Parts I and II of the IT Rules deal with internet and social media intermediaries and are administered by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Part III specifies the Code of Ethics and procedure and safeguards concerning digital media and is administered by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Former RCB owner Mallya recalls picking Kohli, says IPL title is dream-come-true moment for him

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru owner Vijay Mallya recalled picking a young Virat Kohli 18 seasons ago in the players auction and said it was remarkable to witness the maestro staying loyal to the franchise, which has finally won a long-awaited IPL trophy. RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in the IPL final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to end their long wait in the 18th edition of the tournament. "When I founded RCB it was my dream that the IPL trophy should come to Bengaluru. I had the privilege of picking the legendary King Kohli as a youngster and it is remarkable that he has stayed with RCB for 18 years," Mallya wrote in a post on 'X'. RCB, which was bought by Mallya for USD 111.6 million back in 2008, picked Kohli in the inaugural IPL auction in January 2008, and the batting superstar has only played for the Bengaluru-based franchise since then. The UK-based Mallya lost ownership of the franchise in 2016 after defaulting on bank loans. The team is now completely owned by United Spirits. Mallya is, however, credited with playing major a role in signing the cricketing giants like AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Jacques Kallis, and Anil Kumble among others for RCB. "I also had the honour of picking Chris Gayle the Universe Boss and Mr 360 AB DeVillers who remain an indelible part of RCB history. Finally, the IPL trophy arrives in Bengaluru. "Congratulations and thanks again to all who made my dream come true. RCB fans are the very best and they deserve the IPL trophy. Ee Sala Cup Bengaluru baruthe ! (This year, the cup is ours)," Mallya wrote. The liquor baron, who is accused of defaulting on loans worth several crores from Indian banks, including the State Bank of India (SBI), congratulated the entire RCB team management for the triumph. "RCB are IPL Champions finally after 18 years. Superb campaign right through the 2025 tournament. A well balanced team Playing Bold with outstanding coaching and support staff. Many congratulations ! Ee sala cup namde !!"

Terror-linked spying network busted in Punjab; YouTuber Jasbir Singh among key figures

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav tweets, "...State Special Operations Cell, Mohali has unearthed a critical espionage network linked to Jasbir Singh, a resident of village Mahlan, Rupnagar. Jasbir Singh, who operates a YouTube channel called 'Jaan Mahal,' has been found associated with PIO Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, part of a terror-backed espionage network. He also maintained close contact with Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra (arrested for spying) and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a Pakistani national and expelled Pak High Commission official. Investigations have revealed that Jasbir attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi on Danish's invitation, where he met Pakistani Army officials and vloggers. He travelled to Pakistan on three occasions (2020, 2021, 2024), and his electronic devices contained multiple Pakistan-based numbers, now under detailed forensic scrutiny. After Jyoti Malhotra's arrest, Jasbir attempted to erase all traces of his communications with these PIOs to avoid detection. An FIR has been registered at SSOC, Mohali. Gender-neutral shift: JNU vice-chancellor to be called 'Kulguru' instead of 'Kulpati'

JNU NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has decided to replace the term "Kulpati" with "Kulguru" for its vice-chancellor in all degree certificates and academic records, three years after such a change was first proposed . JNU made the decision during a meeting of its Executive Council in April. The minutes of the meeting stated as agenda: "To change/rename of designation from 'Kulpati' to 'Kulguru' for the signature on the degree certificates and other academic documents." The directive has been marked for action by the Controller of examinations. "'Kulguru' is not only culturally significant but also gender-neutral, offering a more inclusive alternative to the conventional titles used in Indian universities," news agency PTI quoted a JNU official as saying. In Hindi, "pati" means husband, while "guru" translates to teacher, a gender-neutral term. 'Symbolic gesture': JNUSU president Reacting to the move, JNU Students' Union president Nitish Kumar said that instead of "symbolic gestures", the Delhi-based university should work towards "concrete gender justice." "Along with changing 'Kulpati' to 'Kulguru', the VC should also fulfill the demands for gender-neutral washrooms and gender-neutral hostels. Move beyond symbolic gestures and work towards concrete gender justice," Kumar wrote on X. Not first such name-change The university move is in line with similar changes already implemented by the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan governments. In February, Rajasthan passed an amendment to adopt "Kulguru" and "Pratikulguru" for "Kulpati" and "Upkulpati", a decision approved the following month. In July last year, Madhya Pradesh unanimously approved an amendment that the vice-chancellors of the universities in the state will be addressed as "Kulguru".
