Family affair for Stirling Amateur Cup champ after Hampden glory
Dean Manson was part of the successful Steins Thistle side which claimed glory at the National Stadium - following in the footsteps of his grandfather.
It was a dream Hampden night for Stirling footballer Dean Manson as he proved that cup final success really does run in the family.
The 21-year-old was part of the successful Steins Thistle side who won the showpiece Scottish Amateur Cup final at the National Stadium for the first time in the club's history.
They defeated Wishaw outfit FC Pather 3-1 on Thursday night and avenged their defeat in the 2023 final where they lost out to Cupar Hearts.
But Manson had family history on his side, following in the footsteps of grandfather David Wade, who also lifted the cup in 1978 with Cambusbarron Rovers.
The pair shared an emotional moment with the trophy after the final whistle after David watched on to see his grandson achieve success.
He said: 'It was nice to watch history repeat itself.'
Manson's story isn't the only Stirling link to the Steins victory, with the Allandale club also boasting several local links in their squad and coaching staff.
They include Gianluca Deluca, Andrew McGown, Kyle Allison and Thomas Elvin.
Manager Kevin Valentine - who guided his side to the win from the famous Hampden dugouts, also lives in Stirling along with assistant manager Alan Joyce who lives in Dunblane.
The win secures Steins a spot in the preliminary rounds of the Scottish Cup proper - offering the chance for Dean and his team-mates to possibly earn a crack at SPFL opposition if they are able to navigate a couple of early matches.
They took the lead on the night after just two minutes courtesy of a quality run and finish from striker Stephen Donaghy, but Pather hit back with a stunning leveller on seven minutes.
A foul 35 yards from goal was punished in the most penal of fashion for Steins, Lee Dixon stepping up to bend a superb long-range free-kick into the net.
But once again, a goal was just around the corner in a pulsating opening to the match as Broomridge's Kyle Allison restored the Steins lead on 17 minutes.
A penalty was awarded for a clumsy challenge in the area and midfielder Allison was on hand to send the Pather keeper the wrong way.
Manson almost had a goal to cap off a perfect night, just missing the target from another Allison delivery, but the midfielder wasn't to be denied in an all-action display, driving forward before laying the ball wide for a cross which was ruthlessly dispatched by Donaghy.

Two thugs who helped ambush rival football fans in a pub have been banned from attending games for two years. A court heard A irdrieonians supporter Cameron Patey "got a buzz" out of causing trouble. Airdrie Sheriff Court heard a group of home fans confronted the Perth side's supporters and a fight spilled on to the street. Patey, 22, Ryan Lawrence, 29, and Nathan Dunsmore, 26, admitted causing a breach of the peace by fighting, shouting and swearing on January 20 last year. Annette Ward, prosecuting, said Airdrie fans were seen on CCTV leaving another pub and heading for the West End Bar before the match. She told the court: "They had their hoods up and their faces partially covered with scarves. The three accused were part of the group. "A large group of St Johnstone fans were already inside the West End Bar. "As soon as the Airdrie supporters arrived there was an altercation that turned into a scuffle between the two groups. "This quickly spilled on to the street and in the course of that an individual was assaulted by two unidentified males." The court heard that a fourth Airdrie fan was seen on CCTV picking up two bottles and throwing them into the pub. He was also charged but has since died. Patey has a previous conviction which resulted in him being given a football banning order. Lawrence also has football-related previous convictions. The court heard that, when asked about his role in the trouble, Patey told a social worker: "It's an escape. It gives me a buzz." But defence lawyer Tony Linden said: "He now describes his conduct as pathetic. His days of attending football matches and seeking out trouble are gone. "He plans to leave the Airdrie area and has an offer of employment with a starting salary of £40,000." Fraser McKinnon, defending Lawrence, said he accepted responsibility for his behaviour, but the lawyer added: "From the CCTV, it appears his involvement was at the lower end of the scale." Nicky Matteo, for Dunsmore, told the court: "This happened at a time when he was drinking and taking drugs to excess." Sheriff Joseph Hughes imposed two-year football banning orders on Patey, of School Quadrant, and Lawrence, of Park Street, both Airdrie. These will cover all regulated games in the UK and the pair are also banned from watching televised football in licensed premises. The sheriff said: "I'm satisfied this offence was related to the football match that day. It matters not if it happened before the game started. "It is appropriate to impose these banning orders to prevent violence or disorder at, or in connection with, football matches." Patey was also warned that he must behave himself over the next nine months while Lawrence will be under supervision for two years and electronically tagged for nine months, meaning he's confined to his home between 7pm and 7am each day. Sentence on Dunsmore, who is in custody on other matters, was deferred until December.

Aberdeen sign German youth international left-back from FC Schalke 04 on four-year deal
Aberdeen have signed German youth international left-back Emmanuel Gyamfi on a four-year deal from FC Schalke 04. The 20-year-old has been secured for an undisclosed fee subject to international clearance and VISA formalities. Gyamfi emerged through the youth academy at Bundesliga 2 side Schalke where he is regarded as one of their hottest prospects. The left-back gained valuable senior experience during a loan spell with VVV-Venlo in the Eerste Divisie during the 2024-2025 season. Gyamfi says he is inspired by Aberdeen's 20,000 fans during the Scottish Cup final triumph at Hampden. And he aims to help bring more silverware success to the Dons under boss Jimmy Thelin. He said: ' I'm really happy to be here and so are my family, so I am ready to go. 'Now that everything is sorted, I can focus on pre-season, and I am going to work hard before training starts. 'I will give my best to help the team. 'I want to show the fans what I can do as this is a good club, and we all want to achieve even more than last season. 'It was nice to see all the fan celebrations after winning the cup. 'It motivates me to want to do it again as you can see how much they love Aberdeen. The Dons have agreed a deal to sign the young left-sided player from Schalke 04 on a four-year deal. The 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Dutch club VVV Venlo, comes in to fight for the left-back slot with Graeme Shinnie, after Jack MacKenzie quit for Plymouth. Gyamfi has seen his new club wallow in the glow of their first cup success in over a decade and hopes he can also bring glory in the coming seasons. Gyamfi said: 'It was nice to see all the fan celebrations after winning the cup. It motivates me to want to do it again as you can see how much they love Aberdeen. 'It motivates me to do it again. I will give my best to help the team. 'I want to show the fans what I can do as this is a good club, and we all want to achieve even more than last season.' Another added pull for the German was European football. Aberdeen go straight into the final Europa League qualifier but regardless of what happens are guaranteed group football until the end of the year. He said: 'Obviously, it's a dream to play in Europe, on that stage. 'There is the chance for the Europa League and then definitely the Conference League. He stated: 'Scottish football will be intense, so I have to be ready both physically and mentally for this. 'I am comfortable to play on the left or right, I can play as a winger or a full-back on both sides. I am strong, fast and can dribble. I hope it will help being able to play in some positions. 'I just want to get a good pre-season, get fit and get going when we start back. I signed for four years and am confident about my time here, I want to achieve things here. 'I heard about the interest about five months ago, my agent told me about the offer but I wanted to focus on the season. 'I didn't play a lot to start with but then started playing a lot, and now I'm here. I'm really happy to be here and so are my family, so I am ready to go.' The new arrival believes his time in Holland will help him hit the ground running in the Granite City. Gyamfi, speaking to RedTV, said: 'It was hard in the beginning (at Venlo) but I fought my way through it. Last season I played around 30 games, after the winter break I played a lot and it felt good. 'My confidence had been down in the beginning because I didn't play a lot, but getting into the team at the end gave me a lot of confidence.' He has previously been at Fortuna Dusseldorf before he moved to Schalke. Thelin admitted Gyamfi is exactly what he wants in an Aberdeen full-back. Thelin said: 'Emmanuel is a player we have been monitoring for some time. He possesses all the attributes we are looking for in a modern full-back. He's dynamic and has a great work ethic.
