Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office: Aamir Khan starrer takes a flight, soaring to USD 2M in 2 days
Sitaare Zameen Par recorded a big uptick in collections on Saturday, grossing USD 1.25 million (Rs. 10.75 crore). The two-day running cume stands at USD 2.10 million (Rs. 18 crore), which, a couple of days back, seemed like it would be a struggle for the weekend to achieve. The Aamir Khan starrer is now on track to gross over USD 3 million weekend, possibly closer to USD 3.50 million if Sunday holds strong.
The growth was massive all across the board for the film, right from Australia in the East to North America in the West, most of them jumping 60 to 70 per cent from Friday. UAE remained the top market, raking in close to USD 400K on Saturday, which is a pretty good sum. Australia also neared the AUD 200K mark, when on Thursday night it seemed hard to cross the AUD 100K on the first day. The United States also saw growth, a bit lower than others, at 50 per cent, as Friday was a partial holiday, although the numbers there could have been higher. North of it, Canada had the best growth, nearly doubling from Friday, as summer breaks are late to kick in here.
The film had a soft start on Friday; in fact, the weekend total would still be below par, but it's the extraordinary trend that is an absolute plus and sets the film up for a potentially big final number. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani had a similar sort of start two years back, opening to USD 4 million and then legged to USD 20 million final.
For Sitaare Zameen Par, the first target will be to cross the USD 10 million mark, which now seems quite easy. A USD 15 million plus final seems like a good target, but that would need some really strong holds in the coming weeks. The film managed better jumps on Saturday than RARKPK did, which at the moment, makes it very feasible.

Did My Dearest writer scam K-drama production after advance pay? Full scoop on 350 million KRW feud over Namkoong Min, Ahn Eun Jin starrer
K-drama writer Hwang Jin Young, best known for My Dearest starring Namkoong Min and Ahn Eun Jin, is currently facing serious legal consequences. She was recently found in breach of a past contractual agreement with a local production company. A Seoul court has ordered her to return 350 million KRW (approx. 254,000 USD). It was an advance she received for a television drama she never completed. The Seoul Western District Court recently ruled in favor of the unnamed drama production company. It stated that Hwang had failed to deliver on a commitment made in 2017 to complete a 20-episode series, despite having already received half of her total agreed fee. The contract: What went wrong? Back in August 2017, Hwang entered into an agreement to pen a full-length television drama. According to court documents, her fee was set at 35 million per episode, totaling 700 million for all 20 episodes. The production company fulfilled their part of the agreement by paying her 350 million in advance. They were expecting delivery of the scripts within a five-year period from the date of signing. However, the drama project saw no major progress over the following years. According to the company, Hwang submitted only one initial draft about a year after the contract was signed. When they responded with criticism and requested revisions, she allegedly did not provide any follow-up drafts or communicate further about the status of the work. Deal with MBC caused contractual conflict What complicates the matter is that at the time she signed this new contract, Hwang was already bound by an exclusive writing agreement with MBC for My Dearest. This earlier contract spanned from July 2014 to December 2019. It prohibited her from working with other companies during that period. As a result, she was contractually unable to dedicate time to the new project she had committed to in 2017. Despite this clear conflict, no proper arrangement was made to resolve the overlap. This led to a prolonged period of inactivity on the 20-episode drama she was commissioned to write. Legal action After years of inactivity, the production company reignited the issue in August 2023. They sent formal notice to Hwang to fulfill her original commitment. In response, she claimed that the five-year period stipulated in the contract had already expired. Therefore, she argued that she had no legal obligation to continue the project or return the funds. In early 2024, the company filed a formal lawsuit against Hwang. They claimed her refusal to complete the scripts constituted a clear breach of contract. The company also argued that she unjustly withheld a large sum without fulfilling her end of the deal. Court's ruling The court sided with the production company. It concluded that Hwang showed no clear effort or intention to meet her contractual obligations. The ruling stated that, 'It is highly questionable whether Hwang ever had the intention to faithfully fulfill the scriptwriting contract in this case.' The court emphasized that the original terms were not met and that her defense was not sufficient to excuse her inaction. As a result, Hwang was ordered to repay the entire 350 million advance. Hwang Jin Young files appeal While the initial ruling went against her, Hwang has not accepted the outcome quietly. She has filed an official appeal. The case is now set to be heard in the Seoul High Court, where a final decision will be determined after further review and legal proceedings.

Madhubala Biopic Put On Hold As Makers Rework Financial Plan
Last Updated: The biopic on screen icon Madhubala, directed by Jasmeet K Reen, is on hold as producers Sony, Brewing Thoughts, and Madhubala Pictures reassess the budget. A long-gestating biopic on iconic Bollywood legend Madhubala is back in the spotlight. Although the script is ready and director Jasmeet K Reen (best known for Darlings, 2022) is all set to helm the film, production has come to a standstill due to budget concerns. Once planned as a grand period drama with an estimated cost of Rs 80 to Rs 100 crore, the makers, Sony, Brewing Thoughts, and Madhubala Pictures, are now reworking the numbers to make the project financially sustainable. 'The period detailing, elaborate costumes, and set designs had ballooned the budget to a point where the recovery math didn't add up," a source close to the film shared to Mid-Day. 'The team is now actively working to find a middle path that does justice to Madhubala's grandeur without compromising the project's sustainability," added the source. The film has been in development for years, but things only picked up serious traction once Reen, known for her sensitive portrayal of complex women, came on board. 'The script is a beautiful tribute, which is emotional and rich in detail. No one wants a project that bleeds money. So, the budget has been slashed to half," added the insider. For now, conversations with top female actors have been put on hold until the revised financial plan is finalised. Still, hopes remain high. 'The film deserves to be made. The hope is to take the project on floors by the second quarter of this year," the source said. Lovingly known as the 'Venus of Indian Cinema,' Madhubala won hearts with her beauty, talent, and charm on screen. The upcoming film will tell her life story, highlighting her incredible acting, the mark she left on Indian cinema, and the many struggles she faced as a woman in the film industry during her time. The biopic is being backed by Sony Pictures International Productions along with Brewing Thoughts Pvt. Ltd., headed by Prashant Singh and Madhurya Vinay — the same team currently working on India's biggest superhero trilogy, Shaktimaan. Madhubala's sister, Madhur Brij Bhushan, and Arvind Kumar Malviya of Madhubala Ventures are also on board as co-producers for the project. Earlier speaking to ANI, Madhubala's sister Madhur Bhushan revealed that making a biopic of her loved sister is her 'long-standing dream". She further revealed that while the late actress had a short-lived life but her life is worth every moment. She told the news agency, 'All my sisters and I have joined hands to make this dream come true. With God's blessings and the dedication of my partners – Arvindji, Prashant and Vinay, I am confident that this biopic will be made successfully on a grand level. We need everyone's blessings to put together this project beautifully." First Published:
