Sky Sports shock staff after axing long-running programme loved by Jurgen Klopp amid TV company's restructure, plus why Jobe Bellingham ditched his surname during play-off final victory
Dismay is rife at Sky's studios in Osterley after the surprise decision was taken to axe The Football Show, a popular and long-running programme broadcast every Monday on Sky Sports News.
Respected host Rob Wotton was joined by Stephen Warnock and Sue Smith each week to discuss the major talking points from the weekend just gone.
Warnock and Smith's analysis was always to the point. The trio were joined by former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher for an hour-long section called 'Ref Watch' and the quartet never shied away from looking at controversial decisions.
Jurgen Klopp, when he was Liverpool manager, was a regular viewer and enjoyed the views of 'Mr Dermot'.
But SSN suits have decided to remove this intelligent show, with the thirst to recruit a younger audience leading them to YouTube influencers and fans with big followings.
Many in the building are bewildered by the direction of travel, although Sky insiders insist the changes are aimed at making them more agile and able to concentrate on breaking news stories across platforms.
'Ref Watch' and various other elements of the show are expected to remain in different formats.
Seven reporters and presenters are leaving the channel in the wake of a recent restructure.
Hey, Jobe!
Many viewers will have noticed that Jobe Bellingham, brother of Jude, had his Christian name rather than his surname on the back of his shirt at Wembley. Players can ask for a 'appropriate variation' should they wish at the start of the season.
The Black Cats' number seven's request is thought to have come from a desire to create his own identity away from that of his older brother.
INEOS committed to United
Given what has been a thoroughly underwhelming season, speculation has been rife over whether the interest of the Qatari group which failed to buy Manchester United may have been reignited.
Mail Sport broke the story of Sheikh Jassim's bid, but it is understood that there is currently little appetite for such a move given how the process played out with the Glazer family.
Regardless, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group has no intention of walking away from their minority stake.
Incoming regulator chief impresses
Those in the Royal Box for the Championship play-off on Saturday wondered if it was a cunning, strategic move by EFL bosses to seat incoming football regulator chair David Kogan next to Sharon Brittan.
The Bolton Wanderers chairman has a reputation for making her point and will no doubt have put the incoming official under the spotlight.
While there remain concerns over the process behind the appointment of the former Premier League chief media rights advisor, he impressed some of those in the room.
'He's his own man who gets things done and is not someone who hides behind rules and regs guy,' said an exec from one EFL club.
Flying without a parachute
Sunderland's victory was good news and bad news for the EFL. Good news in that it was a rare promotion from a club not benefiting from parachute payments. Bad news in that it left another that does in the Championship for next season.
Ping-pong politics
Big sports politics are afoot in the imminent World Table Tennis presidential elections. The incumbent is one of only two female world sport presidents and is being challenged by a wealthy Qatari.
Having worked so hard to get a female as his successor for IOC President, it is no surprise that Thomas Bach has just attended the World Table Tennis Championships in Qatar to help lobby for the Swedish president, Petra Sorling.
Bach is understood to have also met with Qatar's Emir, himself an IOC Member. The German may well have asked for his support - reminding him that the host for 2036 Olympic Games is still not yet decided.
All eyes are now on whether the Qatari candidate withdraws from the election.
England IT gaffe
A number of fans of England's men's team were left flummoxed last week when they ordered tickets to watch Thomas Tuchel's side play Andorra, only to be told via email that they had tickets for England women's clash with France.
The situation was put down to an IT glitch and quicky rectified.
Johnson looks to build bridges
James Johnson, who announced he was leaving his role as the head of Football Australia earlier this month, has been appointed CEO at Canadian Soccer Business (CSB) ahead of a crucial year for the World Cup co-host.
CSB was established in 2018 and represents all the commercial partnership and media rights of the Canada Soccer national teams along with the Canadian Premier League.
Johnson has vowed to maximise the opportunities for the Canadian game and has close ties to the CONCACAF region, having worked with the confederation's president, Victor Montagliani, on FIFA's Football Stakeholder Committee in the past.
It is understood Johnson's first call after being appointed at CSB last week was to to Kevin Blue, the CEO and General Secretary of Canada Soccer.
The deal between CSB and Canada Soccer has been the subject of fierce criticism in recent years and the outreach to the federation is a sign of Johnson's determination to build bridges and make the most of the global spotlight that will be on Canada in 2026 and beyond.

Love Island star reveals terrifying moment she was forced to run screaming after being followed by a man: 'I'm scared to walk around'
A Love Island star has revealed she was forced to run screaming after being followed by a man in a terrifying ordeal. Patsy Field took to social media to detail the horrifying incident with fans as she admitted she no longer felt safe in her local area. The former islander, 30, who took part in last year's summer edition of the ITV dating show, told fans how she went on a walk in Bromley shortly after 8pm. In a video, she explained how she had headed out in a bid to walk off 'being full of steak' after a family dinner at Miller and Carter. She said: 'I'd got an outfit on which could be a bit revealing but like I said, I'd never had any issues before. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I've always felt safe where I'm from.' Patsy told how her mother always discourages her from walking by herself at night because the area she's from gets 'a bed rep'. About 10 minutes into her stroll, Patsy realised there was a man walking close by her and she crossed the road. She said: 'I give it a couple of steps on the other side of the road and I thought, I'll just check and I turn around and he's crossed the road.' Unsettled, Patsy said she remained open-minded because there were parked cars on that side of the road. However, in disbelief, the man once again crossed the road after she had moved back. Thinking on her feet while panicking, Patsy stopped walking and looked down at her phone, with the man walking on past her. She continued: 'I can see the end of the road so he carries on walking, there's a zebra crossing right at the end of the road. Patsy told fans how she screamed for help before running off and ringing her mother to come and collect her 'He crosses the zebra crossing and he's about to be out of my sight, but then just as he's about to go out of sight, like away, he stops and turns back around and he just starts walking back towards me. 'I'm like what the f**k is going on.' As the man made contact with Patsy, she was left unnerved and began screaming for help and ran in the opposite direction. The reality star rang her mother who was able to come and pick her up. 'Now I'm scared to walk around my own area which is a shame as I've never had an issue before,' she admitted. While on Love Island, Patsy revealed she w as born with Erb palsy, a disability that affects the muscle function in her right arm and also means it is shorter in length. She told how she should have been born via cesarean, but doctors made the crucial error for her to be delivered naturally, resulting in the defect, which she has had to overcome her entire life.

Bridgerton star reveals terrifying moment phone thief threatened to STAB her in cafe attack – before she tackled him
A BRIDGERTON star has revealed a phone thief threatened to stab her in a cafe attack before she bravely tackled him. Genevieve Chenneour was sitting in a Joe & The Juice in Kensington, South West London when the terrifying ordeal happened. 3 3 Zacariah Boulares snuck up behind the 27-year-old and swiped her phone on February 8. Genevieve - who plays Clara Livingston in the hit Netflix show - revealed that the "full on scrap" lasted for about five minutes. She pinned the 18-year-old thief to the floor but has now said he threatened to stab her. "I was threatened with being stabbed, so it became a matter of life and death," she told ITV. "I remember kicking him back with my leg to create space in case he had a weapon on him." She described it as a "life-changing, crazy moment". The star said the ordeal has left her feeling scared to venture outside and she has even left her home in the capital to take a "break" from the lawless city. Astonishing footage from police showed Genevieve grabbing Boulares' shoulder as she realised her phone had been taken. She then tackled the serial thief to the ground with the help of another customer. Genevieve managed to take her phone back from Boulares before repeatedly hitting him with it in the posh cafe. She previously claimed she suffered a concussion in the horror in February and said even her dog was "traumatised". The star added: "They didn't expect me to stand up for myself – but I did." Algerian national Boulares previously pleaded guilty to stealing the phone. The teen also admitted common assault against fellow Joe and the Juice customer Carlo Kurcishi, who had stepped in to help. Boulares pleaded guilty to a separate charge of theft after he swiped a black leather hand bag from a diner at a pizza restaurant. The court heard he has 12 previous convictions for a total of 28 offences - all relating to theft. His rap sheet includes threatening to cut off Aled Jones' arm while stealing his £17,000 Rolex. The Songs of Praise presenter, 52, was out with his son Lucas when he was targeted near their home in Chiswick, South West London. Boulares - then aged 16 - pulled out 20 inch machete and repeatedly threatened Aled in a bid to steal the luxury timepiece. He told him: "Give me your f***king Rolex or I will cut your arm off." Aled handed over the £17,000 Rolex Daytona watch rather than fight with the armed robber. He and his son bravely followed the 6ft teen but when he spotted them, he snarled: "Walk the other way or I will cut your head off." Boulares was given a two year training and detention order after pleading guilty to robbery at Ealing Youth Court. But he was released from youth detention early after serving just 14 months of his 24-month sentence. He will be sentenced for robbing Genevieve on June 17 at Isleworth Crown Court. 3

‘What the f*** are you doing?' – Thomas Frank nearly quit to be a teacher when Spurs chief first offered him job
THOMAS FRANK will reunite with an old pal when he starts at Tottenham - having been offered a job by the same friend around 20 years ago. The 51-year-old has replaced Ange Postecoglou at Spurs following the Europa League winner's dismissal. 5 In doing so, he ended his seven-year spell with Brentford, where he was adored by fans. With just a shoestring budget, Frank took Brentford from the Championship and turned them into a strong Premier League side. The Dane's style of management has been admired by many clubs - including Manchester United, who reportedly considered him as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag last year. But his new home will be North London - largely thanks to one man in particular. Johan Lange, Tottenham 's technical director, has a relationship with Frank that dates back around two decades. The former Brentford boss came close to quitting football altogether in his early thirties. Frank had spoken to his wife, Nanna, about giving up on his dream of coaching and instead becoming a teacher. That's when Lange came in. Then working for Danish club B93 in Copenhagen, Lange approached Frank regarding a talent development position. After some careful consideration, he declined. BBC star shares shock theory as to why Tottenham waited exactly 16 days after Europa League win to sack Ange Postecoglou 5 However, Frank went on to change his mind after being chastised by the instructor from his Uefa coaching course. Speaking to the Telegraph five years ago, the ex-midfielder said: "He (Uefa instructor) called me and said, 'What the f*** are you doing? This is your dream job. You need to take it.' "The rest is history." Frank and Lange did not spend much time together at B93 but they would meet again at Lyngby, another Danish club, a few years later. There, they would work alongside Niels Frederiksen and Kasper Hjulmand while honing their coaching craft. Now, almost two decades on from that first job together, they are colleagues once again. As the technical director of Tottenham, Lange would have played a role in bringing Frank to North London. The former Brentford favourite is now tasked with carrying Tottenham up the Premier League table. Despite winning the Europa League this term, the Lilywhites endured a terrible domestic season. They finished the campaign 17th in the Premier League table, just one place above the relegation zone. It was the club's poor form in the league which resulted in the dismissal of Postecoglou. 5
