A 10-year-old is set to complete all 214 Wainwrights for a record third time in under two years.
Leo Mason, who lives in Frizington, will complete his 642nd Wainwright on Sunday, May 3, when he climbs to the summit of England's tallest mountain Scafell Pike.
This ascent will see the young mountain climber, who was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome, ADHD, and hyperactivity at age seven, complete his third round of Wainwrights one year and eight months after starting his first and become the youngest person to complete the 214 fells three times and in the fastest time.

Supporting Leo on his record-breaking quest, his father, Michael Mason, who expressed his pride in how his son has conquered several challenges during his latest round of Wainwrights.
He said: "Each round he has taken on harder ways up the wainwrights, much bigger hikes, with some nearly 20 miles long and over 6000ft of elevation gain.

"He wants to become the youngest person to complete 10 rounds."
Alongside his mission to rewrite the record books, Leo's journeys have also had another purpose: to raise awareness of the great outdoors for those with Tourette's syndrome.
(Image: Supplied) To do this, Leo and Michael document their progress during each 214-fell round on their Tickinemoff Facebook page, which is followed by over 7,000 people and reaches around one million people every month.
Despite being on the cusp of another record-breaking run around the Wainwrights, Leo is not planning to rest on his laurels and is due to travel to the Isle of Skye to take on the notorious Cullin Ridge, known as one of the UK's most challenging mountain routes.

Cardiff sign Test props Sebastian and Wainwright

International tight-head props Javan Sebastian and Sam Wainwright have joined Cardiff from Edinburgh and Scarlets respectively for 2025-26. Sebastian, 30, moved from home region Scarlets to Edinburgh in 2023 having made his Scotland debut in 2021. Advertisement Wainwright, 27, impressed for north Wales side RGC and Wales Under-20s before joining Saracens in 2019. He earned a Wales call for their 2022 tour to South Africa under then-national coach Wayne Pivac and played in the historic win over the Springboks in South Africa. That was the only time Wales have beaten South Africa on their own soil. Sebastian and Wainwright, whose contract lengths have not been disclosed, will challenge Wales tight-head Keiron Assiratti for the number three jersey, as well as Will Davies-King. "Javan has gone away from Wales and developed as a person and a player, picking up international experience. He is technically excellent around his set-piece and will add to the Cardiff game model with his work in open play," said Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt. Advertisement "Sam will add real depth and competition to the tight-head position. He has very good experience for a 27-year-old - playing in the English Premiership at Saracens and the URC (United Rugby Championship) with the Scarlets, while gaining international experience. "He has a real passion for the set-piece and a great work ethic that will enable him to add to our game model." Sebastian said: "I have seen what they have been building at Cardiff over the last couple of years and it's really exciting. "Moving closer to home and family is also nice and I'm looking forward to giving 100% for the jersey." Advertisement Wainwright said: "Myself and my family are really grateful for the opportunity Cardiff have given us and we are really looking forward to coming to the capital and linking up with such a great team, with so much history. "We have heard nothing but good things about Cardiff. It is a great environment for players and their families, which was a big reason for signing." The signings come during a torrid period in Welsh professional rugby. Cardiff have been owned by the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), who took them out of administration in April amid serious financial difficulties. Cardiff and Dragons subsequently signed a new deal with the governing body - the new Professional Rugby Agreement (PRA). Advertisement Scarlets and Ospreys have not done so and say they asked the WRU for assurances the takeover "will not disproportionally benefit Cardiff and disadvantage the independent clubs" but claim they were not given guarantees.

Pope Leo XIV blesses cyclists competing in the Giro d'Italia as final stage enters Vatican gardens

VATICAN CITY — Pope Leo XIV blessed the more than 150 cyclists competing in the Giro d'Italia on Sunday as the three-week race's final stage began with an unprecedented ride through the Vatican gardens behind St. Peter's Basilica. After entering the Vatican, overall race leader Simon Yates and leaders of the other classifications got off their bikes and walked forward to shake hands with the pope, who was presented with a replica of the leader's pink jersey. 'You are role models for young people all over the world,' Leo told the peloton. 'May God bless all of you on this last part of the Giro d'Italia. Congratulations to all of you. May you know that you are always welcome here in the Vatican. You are always welcome by the church, which represents God's love for all people.' In an off-script moment, Colombia's Nairo Quintana, the 2014 Giro champion, stopped to greet the pope after all of the other riders had already moved on. While popes have blessed the Giro riders before and the race has previously passed through or next to St. Peter's Square, this marked the first time that the route took the peloton on a three-kilometer (nearly two-mile) route inside the Vatican walls. Bringing the race inside the Vatican was originally intended as an homage to Pope Francis during the 2025 Holy Year but after Francis died, Leo — the first American pope — decided to honor the event in Francis' memory. The cyclists entered the Vatican through the Petriano gate to the left of St. Peter's, rode around the basilica and then climbed up toward the gardens before exiting near the Santa Marta hotel at the Perugino gate. Santa Marta was where Francis lived. The passage through the Vatican occurred during the non-competitive neutralized period before the stage. The official start was given after the riders exited the narrow Perugino gate. British rider Yates could cruise to the title with an advantage of nearly four minutes over Isaac Del Toro of Mexico. The 143-kilometer (89-mile) final stage concluded with a circuit of eight laps through downtown Rome and finished next to the Circus Maximus. It's the third time since Leo was elected last month that he has met with the sports world. Two weeks ago, Leo held a private audience with top-ranked tennis player Jannik Sinner. Then last week, he welcomed the players and staff of Italian soccer champion Napoli to the Vatican.
