{UPDATED] Wei Chong-Kai Wun eye historic double at Istora Senayan
KUALA LUMPUR: Having already won the Indonesia Masters earlier this year, can men's pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun make it two titles in a calendar year at the iconic Istora Senayan?
The Malaysian world No. 7 returned to the revered venue in Jakarta in style today, brushing aside the United States' world No. 33 Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith 21-6, 21-11 in 21 minutes in the first round of the Indonesia Open.
Last year, Wei Chong-Kai Wun stunned many by reaching the final, but only to fall to China's Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang. This year, they return with renewed ambition.
"We're happy to be back at Istora Senayan and we hope to perform well," said Wei Chong in a post-match interview.
"Our win at the Malaysia Masters is behind us — this is a new week and we're eager to learn from the top pairs here."
In the second round, Wei Chong-Kai Wun will face the winners of the tie between compatriots Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King and France's Eloi Adam-Leo Rossi.
