AFL world sends flood of messages after Buddy and Jesinta share 'surprise' family news
AFL icon Buddy Franklin and his wife Jesinta have announced they are expecting their third child with fans congratulating the pair after the 'surprise' news. Franklin finished his AFL career back in 2023 having called time after more than 300 games with Hawthorn and the Sydney Swans.
Despite being one of the biggest names in the game, Franklin often remained out of the spotlight during his career and has enjoyed retirement since. On Tuesday, Jesinta announced the pair are expecting their third child, which has come as a surprise even to them.
Their second child, Rocky, was born back in 2021 and the latest news was shared by Jesinta on social media. "Tullulah & Rocky are getting a baby brother or sister for Christmas. The most beautiful surprise of all," she wrote to her followers.
"Our hearts are full and yet, we share this news with deep sensitivity. I know that announcements like this can be incredibly hard for those who are walking the path of infertility or loss. My heart is with you, always." The announcement came with a video showing Jesinta's silhouette with their kids running around.

Jesinta went into detail about the struggles of pregnancy and admitted their third child was a lovely surprise for the growing family. 'Even though we thought we were happy and done with two beautiful children we have been lucky enough to add another to the family,' she wrote.
'Life works in mysterious ways and I'm leaning into this next chapter with a grateful heart. Lulu and Rocky are beside themselves and can't wait to meet their baby. Keeping the gender a surprise this time round.'
Former Swans teammates Nick Blakey and Tom Papley were quick to congratulate the pair after the announcement. Swans great Nick Davis also congratulated them with a cheeky comment about wanting to see a comparison of Franklin's belly, mirroring Jesinta's video announcement. 'Don't even... he's rude and training for a marathon so I'm a blob and he's the hottest fit dad going around,' Jesinta joked back.
After finishing up with the Sydney Swans, Franklin's family moved to the Gold Coast where he has enjoyed retirement. Franklin played 172 games for the Swans, but he also made 182 appearances for Hawthorn and is considered a legend at both clubs.
Jesinta said the roles had very much reversed between her and Buddy since he retired from the AFL, with the former Miss Universe Australia winner putting her own career on the back-burner during her husband's glittering 19-year stint in the AFL. The legendary goalkicker's wife says he's been so supportive of Jesinta pursuing her own professional goals and she's grateful to have the extra help around the house.
'Look, we're still working on picking up our dirty laundry and learning to put them in the basket,' Jesinta said. 'But no, other than that it's so nice to have him around. It's so nice to have that extra support at home as well.
'For so long I was the support system to him because footy always came first and there was just not a lot of room in his schedule to move. Now it's really nice to have that reciprocated so I can do a little bit more with my career and he can be at home with the kids.' While Franklin has remained largely out of the media, he did launch a podcast with AFL great Shane Crawford earlier this year.

NSW called out over 'arrogant' pre-Origin move as Billy Slater stunt resurfaces
Laurie Daley and NSW have been labelled 'arrogant' for keeping Billy Slater and Queensland waiting at the pre-game press conference in Perth, while Phil Gould has hit out at the Maroons for their axing of Daly Cherry-Evans. Many have suggested the build-up to State of Origin Game 2 has been rather mild with Slater and the Queensland side largely staying out of the media and throwing very few barbs after their 18-6 defeat at Suncorp. NSW have largely stayed out of the media as well with Spencer Leniu and Latrell Mitchell continuing their self-imposed media bans. Although only a day out from Game 2, the Blues certainly ruffled some feathers in the Queensland section following their tardiness to a media opportunity. Coach Daley, captain Isaah Yeo and Nathan Cleary kept Billy Slater and new Queensland captain Cameron Munster waiting on their arrival fo the press conference on Tuesday ahead of Game 2 in Perth. Reporter Peter Badel, from The Courier Mail, labelled the move from NSW as 'arrogant' as Slater and co were made to wait in front of the media. The NSW contingent did arrive for the press conference, but the move wasn't well received from those north of the border. However, it could have been in response to Slater making Michael Maguire and NSW wait last year with the stunt backfiring in Melbourne. Arrogant Blues keep Maroons waiting at official press conference in Perth. No sign yet of Blues coach Laurie Daley while Maroons twiddle their thumbs. — Pete Badel (@badel_cmail) June 17, 2025 Queensland have been left waiting for 10 minutes now for Blues to show up for the joint press conference in Perth. — Scott Bailey (@ScottBaileyAAP) June 17, 2025 Ahead of Game 2 last year, with Queensland winning Game 1, Maguire took a little swipe at Slater for not turning up on time in a similar situation. And it appears the roles have been reversed a year later with Queensland waiting on the winning team this time around. Although Daley will be hoping he can do one better than Slater and follow through with the victory in Game 2. Last year, leading journalist Dean Ritchie revealed the Blues were privately 'filthy' with Queensland after their stunt. 'The Blues were privately a little bit miffed though, it was for 12.30pm, they were ready to go at twenty past 12 and Queensland lobbed in at twenty to one,' he said on the Sky Sport Radio. 'And then even when Billy got there, Madge was waiting at the gate to go onto the stage and Billy decided to do some autographs and selfies. That's fine to promote the game down here, I get it. But at the same time it took them another few minutes and they were close to 15 minutes late onto the stage. I don't know how you can be late when you work to a stringent itinerary.' While Queensland might not be happy with the Blues, NSW great Gould was left disappointed Cherry-Evans wasn't granted a farewell in the Origin arena. Slater made the stunning decision to drop captain and halfback Cherry-Evans after a poor showing in Game 1. Slater becomes the first coach to drop a captain mid-series this century and his decision was described as 'monumental' by AAP reporter Scott Bailey. Cherry-Evans has most likely played his last game for Queensland having captained the side to a number of series victories. And on Channel Nine's 100% Footy, Gould claimed he felt Chery-Evans didn't receive the send-off he deserved after all his dedication to the Maroon jersey. "He doesn't get that goodbye moment after a great career, they've said goodbye for him," he said on Monday. "He doesn't get to stand their on the field after a win or loss or draw at the end of the series and say 'this is my last time'. "They've made their mind up for him, I think it's been pretty unceremonious actually. I think it's very, very ordinary to be honest." Queensland Rugby League boss Ben Ikin has confirmed Slater will be in charge of the side next year with his contract finishing at the end of the 2026 series. However, Slater is under pressure to stop the dominance from NSW with Daley looking to take his state to their fourth successive win over Queensland.

triple j Announces ‘Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs' For 50th Anniversary
triple j have revealed plans for a special-event Hottest 100, in which they plan to count down the Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs for the very first time – as voted by the station's listeners. The announcement comes as the youth broadcaster is celebrating its 50th year on air, having originally been launched as the Sydney-only station 2JJ back in January of 1975. The countdown is set to take place on Saturday, July 26th from 10am AEST, and will be simulcast on both triple and Double J. 'It's a big year for the triple j family, so what better way to toast our deep history than by doing our favourite thing: wringing our hands over trying to pick only 10 of our favourite songs released by Australian artists and bands,' the station shared in a statement. 'Nah, it'll be a breeze, right?' Any song released before January 19th, 2025 – triple j's 50th birthday – is eligible. The station has clarified, however, that Like A Versions performed by Australian artists are ineligible, as are songs where more than 50% of the featured artists are Australian. The station noted Mullumbimby native Iggy Azalea's 2014 chart-topper 'Fancy' (featuring the English Charli XCX) would be eligible, for instance, but 'Lose Control' by Young Franco (featuring US acts Earthgang and Jafunk) would not. The Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs will mark the 42nd Hottest 100 overall, as well as the 10th countdown to not focus on the year of music just passed. It follows on from 2023's Like A Version Hottest 100, which was conducted to celebrate 20 years of the station's flagship segment. The Hottest 100 of 2024 took place in January, and was topped by Chappell Roan's 'Good Luck, Babe!'. Voting is officially open for the Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs, and can be voted for here. Voting closes on Thursday, July 17th at 5pm AEST. triple j's Hottest 100 of Like A Version: 100-1 All The Trivia, Facts, And Broken Records Of Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2022 Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers Team Up with triple j's Concetta Caristo on 'The Song I Wrote When I Was 11' The post triple j Announces 'Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs' For 50th Anniversary appeared first on Music Feeds.

Dash after gash: 40 stitches couldn't stop star Dolphin
The Dolphins are creating waves after three weeks of all-time premiership form and hooker Jeremy Marshall-King is just happy to be part of it after surgery. The 29-year-old missed five games with leg lacerations that required surgery after getting infected. His last two matches have been 58-4 and 56-6 wins over North Queensland and St George Illawarra respectively after he missed the previous 44-8 win over Canterbury. Those victories made the Dolphins only one of six teams in premiership history to have won three straight games by 36 points. Marshall-King suffered bad cuts against Penrith in round six and came back too soon in round nine against Sydney Roosters before missing the following four games. On Tuesday he spoke about his ordeal for the first time. "Everyone thought it was just a little scratch but it was two cuts on my leg that were pretty deep," he said. "It got infected at one point and probably didn't heal enough when I came back. I reopened it and had to go back in and get surgery. "They had to clean it out because it got infected and I had over 40 stitches in my quad - inside and outside. "It wasn't nice but I had to get it done. It is a little setback in my footy this year but it is good to be back playing and getting the wins." It is the way the sixth-placed Dolphins are winning that is such a joy. Their attack is on fire and defensively they have been elite, despite missing Daniel Saifiti, Max Plath and Tom Gilbert to season-ending injuries. "It's been really fun and enjoyable the last three weeks and breaking those records as well," he said. "It is all about our connection as a group but it comes back to our defence. The last three weeks we have kept teams to 18 and not many teams do that. "Adversity has been part of this club since we started. We've had a lot of setbacks but us boys bond and connect a lot better when things happen like (injuries). We've got to keep going and be consistent in what we do." The Dolphins will miss captain Felise Kaufusi to suspension for the next fortnight with hooker Harrison Graham set to come onto the bench against Newcastle in Perth on Saturday afternoon. That will allow standout utility Kurt Donoghoe to play longer minutes at lock and not have to slot in at hooker when Marshall-King has a rest. "Kurt's a great player. His ball playing around the middle opens up our edges as well and that is something we had probably been missing," Marshall-King said. "It takes pressure off our halves. He's done a wonderful job."
