Time of India17-05-2025

Indore: A bomb threat call received by railways on Saturday afternoon regarding Ballia -LTT Kamayani Express (Train No. 11072) delayed the train for about an hour as it was halted in Khandwa for searching before it was confirmed to be a hoax.
Central Railway chief PRO Swapnil Nila said, "The threat was received on a WhatsApp call on the number of deputy station superintendent around 1pm, and it was said that explosives were kept in the S4 and S5 compartments of the train, following which it was stopped at platform number 5 of Khandwa railway station and searched. The area was also cordoned off."
At the time the alert was received, the train just passed Talwaria station, about 16 kilometre from Khandwa.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Govt Railway Police (GRP) immediately sprang into action. Authorities informed the police control room and arranged for security personnel to be present on the platform by the time the train arrived at Khandwa station around 1 pm.
Upon arrival, all 22 coaches of the train—including two generator cars and 20 passenger bogies—were thoroughly searched. Passengers were evacuated, and sniffer dogs were deployed to assist in inspecting the train for any suspicious items.

Security personnel also conducted baggage checks and questioned passengers. After an extensive inspection, nothing suspicious was found on board.
The entire operation caused the train to remain halted at Khandwa station for nearly an hour. Finally, after determining that the bomb threat was a hoax, the train was cleared for departure at 1:56 pm, with a delay of 56 minutes. "Even as it was found to be a hoax call, it is being taken seriously, and we are trying to trace the number," said Nila.

Shamed over ‘unpaid' fees, BPharm student ends life in Lucknow

Lucknow: A 25-year-old final-year bachelor of pharmacy (BPharma) student from a private college in Lucknow's Chinhat area died by suicide on June 5 after being publicly humiliated over pending semester fees. The incident sparked outrage among students and led to the arrest of a college accountant, with four other staff members named in an FIR. The deceased, identified as Shubham Kumar, a resident of Rae Bareli, was found hanging in his hostel room number 109 shortly after he was reportedly barred from attending a farewell function and his practical exams due to fee-related issues. According to his suicide note and statements from friends, he deposited the semester fee, but a technical error in the college's internal system continued to reflect Rs 22,000 as outstanding. On the day of the incident, Shubham arrived at the college to take part in practical examinations and the farewell event. However, he was allegedly stopped by the institution's accountant, who reportedly told him in front of peers, "You can join only after clearing your dues." Feeling humiliated, Shubham returned to his hostel. A few hours later, his friends found his room locked. When there was no response to repeated knocks, they broke the door open and found him hanging from the ceiling fan with a rope. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Police were immediately informed and arrived at the spot to take the body into custody. A two-page suicide note was recovered from the room, in which Shubham wrote: "I deposited the fees in college, but in the system, it continued to show pending. I tried several times to get it corrected, but nothing worked. I was stopped from appearing for my practical exams. I don't know what my friends will think of me. Please forgive me. " Following a complaint by his elder brother, police registered an FIR at Chinhat police station under sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 352 (assault) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The FIR names five individuals from the college, including the principal, a faculty member, the dean, the accountant and another staff member. One of the accused, 32-year-old Mohammad Faiz, a senior accountant originally from Gonda and residing in Chinhat, was arrested on Saturday. Police are currently investigating the roles of the other four accused. Shubham's fellow students alleged that he was previously prevented from attending his practical exams due to the fee dispute. They also claimed that the issue was repeatedly raised with the college authorities, but no resolution was provided. After the news of his death broke, a large number of students gathered outside the hostel and staged a protest demanding a fair investigation and strict action against those responsible. During the protest, some students began recording videos of the scene, which led to an altercation with the hostel warden, who allegedly tried to stop them from filming. Shubham, described by his peers as hardworking and soft-spoken, had no known personal or academic problems except for the fee-related issue. According to the family, he was under stress for weeks due to the college's refusal to update its records despite his repeated clarifications. The incident has once again raised serious questions about the insensitivity of educational institutions in dealing with students' financial and emotional well-being.

FIR against MLA's daughter & three others for thrashing condo woman in Noida

Noida: An FIR was registered against four women, including the daughter of local MLA Tejpal Nagar, for allegedly storming into a resident's flat in Purvanchal Heights in Zeta-1 and assaulting her and her daughters following a spat over a minor car collision inside the society on Saturday evening. The incident — captured on CCTV cameras and its videos circulated widely on social media — unfolded when the cars of Jayshree Gupta and Rekha Bhati scraped past each other. According to Gupta, she was returning from the AVJ Heights market when the minor collision happened, but both residents returned to their flats after a brief exchange. A few hours later — around 8pm — Rekha Bhati, the MLA's daughter Priyanka Nagar, Poonam Bhati and an unidentified woman barged into Gupta's flat. The group allegedly rained blows on her and even attacked her daughters when they tried to intervene. A video clip recorded in one of the tower's CCTV cameras shows Gupta being dragged around by the hair and punched repeatedly. The victim, who suffered head and eye injuries, reached the local police station bleeding and underwent a medical examination around midnight. After she lodged a complaint, an FIR was registered against Priyanka Nagar and the others under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint) of BNS. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Rekha Bhati countered with a police complaint, accusing Gupta of deliberately damaging her car. "We've registered a case and are examining footage from the society's cameras. The investigation will consider all aspects. We will take into account what each of them has to say," said BS Veer, assistant commissioner of police, central Noida. MLA Tejpal Nagar told TOI his daughter was not involved in any attack. "This incident is politically motivated. It's a conspiracy orchestrated by my opponents, who want to tarnish my image by making false allegations. The truth will come out after investigation," he said. Officials in the society, however, linked the incident with existing tension between two parties over AOA elections. "Some residents have raised concerns about management issues in the society. We are planning to review all evidence, such as neighbours' accounts and CCTV footage, as part of our own inquiry," an official said.
