Seahawks GM John Schneider: Cooper Kupp 'A huge get for us'

Yahoo04-04-2025

The Seattle Seahawks' biggest acquisition of the offseason arguably occurred when they signed veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp to a three-year contract worth $45 million. And for the first time since luring the Yakima, Washington native home, general manager John Schneider discussed his addition at the league's annual ownership meetings. Schneider was elated to add Kupp to the Seahawks' offense.
"A huge get for us," Schneider said in response to a question about Kupp. Noting that new Seahawks passing game coordinator Jake Peetz coached Kupp with the Rams, Schneider added, "So we felt like we really knew the person, knew what we were getting into. He had like three, four teams he was talking to, and he wanted to come home," Schneider concluded.
Kupp, the MVP of Super Bowl LVI, played college football locally at Eastern Washington University. The Los Angeles Rams released him from his contract earlier this offseason in a cost-cutting move. The Seahawks convinced him to join them despite being NFC West rivals with his former team.

Kupp is tasked with helping replace DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett at wide receiver. Together, he'll form a new-look duo at wideout with Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The Seahawks have undergone sweeping changes at the position this offseason, but they're showing confidence in Kupp.

Rams Legend Andrew Whitworth Addresses Possibility of Coaching

Rams Legend Andrew Whitworth Addresses Possibility of Coaching originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Andrew Whitworth hung his cleats up over three years ago, calling it quits after 16 seasons in the NFL. He went out on top, winning Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams. Advertisement Whitworth, who, along with Matthew Stafford, helped lead that championship-winning group, was recently asked if he'd be interested in returning to the game in a different capacity. "Thx for asking Chef! I enjoy coaching my kids for now. Don't see myself coaching at higher levels. But it would be foolish to talk in absolutes about a game I love. Only time will tell," Whitworth wrote Thursday on X. Whitworth opted to retire after realizing his body was "tired. ... There's just still been some days where my body doesn't want to move with me." Whitworth earned a Pro Bowl nod four times and was named a first-team All-Pro twice. During his final season, at 40 years old, he became the oldest player to start at left tackle in an NFL game. Kirby Lee-Imagn Images "There is nobody that has had a bigger impact than Andrew Whitworth on establishing the foundation, the culture of 'We Not Me,' and being a part of something bigger than yourself," Rams head coach Sean McVay said after Whitworth hung his cleats up. "Helping influence and affect people in the right way, through the good -- but I think even more importantly, in the bad. That's when he was at his best." Seahawks all-time record vs AFC South: updated for 2025

Seahawks all-time record vs AFC South: updated for 2025 For the past two years, we at Seahawks Wire have been tracking the Seattle Seahawks' all-time records against every team in the NFL. It is important, we feel, to keep an updated log of Seattle's history and how they stack up with other squads in the league. We are resuming this ongoing series with updated records headed into the 2025 season. So far in this series, we have covered the NFC West and NFC South. In 2025, Seattle is also paired with teams from the AFC South. Interestingly enough, the NFC South and AFC South were the two divisions the Seahawks had to play during their legendary 2013 Super Bowl XLVIII championship season. Without further ado, here is how Seattle stacks up all-time in their rare meetings with these cross-conference foes. All-time record: Seattle leads the series 4-1 Regular season : Seattle leads the series 4-1 : Seattle leads the series 4-1 Postseason: N/A Longest win streak: the Seahawks are currently on a three-game winning streak over Houston, dating back to September 2013. Most recent outcome: December 12th, 2021 - the Seahawks obliterate the Texans 33-13 in their own building. The 2021 campaign was a lost one for Seattle, but the Seahawks finished strong. Running back Rashaad Penny bulldozed his way to 137 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the rout. All-time record: Baltimore/Indianapolis leads the series 7-6 Regular season : Baltimore/Indianapolis leads the series 7-6 : Baltimore/Indianapolis leads the series 7-6 Postseason: N/A Longest win streak: both teams' longest streak over the other is only two games in a row. The Colts have done this three times, both in Baltimore and Indianapolis. The Seahawks have won the last two meetings, dating back to October 2017... should they win in 2025, it will be the longest win streak by either team in the series. Most recent outcome: September 12th, 2021 - the Seahawks opened the eventually-doomed 2021 season with a solid 28-16 win over the Colts in Indianapolis. Carlos Dunlap tackling Carson Wentz in the header photo is a good reminder of how quickly life changes in the NFL. Jacksonville Jaguars All-time record: Seattle leads the series 6-3 Regular season : Seattle leads the series 6-3 : Seattle leads the series 6-3 Postseason: N/A Longest win streak: Seattle, two games twice... once from November 2000 to October 2001 and October 2009 to September 2013. Most recent outcome: October 31st, 2021 - the Seahawks claim their first home victory of the season on Halloween, scaring rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence with a 31-7 win over the listless Urban Meyer-led Jaguars. All-time record: Seattle leads the series 11-8 Regular season : Seattle leads the series 11-7 : Seattle leads the series 11-7 Postseason: the only time these two teams met in the playoffs was when the Titans were the Houston Oilers, but the win is still credited to Tennessee so they are 1-0 over the Seahawks Longest win streak: Seattle, five games, from December 1994 until December 2005. Most recent outcome: December 24th, 2023 - Seahawks keep their playoff hopes alive with a heroic comeback drive orchestrated by Geno Smith to escape Music City with a 20-17 win.

Seahawks' 3 largest 2025 cap hits: defense

Seahawks' 3 largest 2025 cap hits: defense The Seattle Seahawks are currently equipped with $31.2 million in effective cap space, according to Over The Cap. General manager John Schneider has built a well-balanced squad, with no player scheduled to carry a salary number larger than $15 million in 2025. Having analyzed the financial situation, we've identified Seattle's three-largest cap charges on defense heading into training camp. Leonard Williams, DT Leonard Williams arguably enjoyed a career-best season for the Seahawks in 2024, recording 11.0 sacks. The Pro Bowler has Seattle's largest cap charge heading into 2025 at a little over $15 million. Williams is signed through 2026, but his contract could require reworking next summer due to its bloated nature ($29.6 million cap hit). Uchenna Nwosu, EDGE The Seahawks could have released Uchenna Nwosu this offseason for financial gain, but ultimately decided to give the oft-injured pass rusher another chance. He has Seattle's second-biggest cap charge on defense this season at $11.8 million. Nwosu is technically under contract through 2026, but it's truly a make-or-break year for him. Devon Witherspoon, CB Devon Witherspoon's cap number increases to $8.6 million in his third season. The former No. 5 overall selection will be eligible for a contract extension next summer, and the Seahawks will make a decision regarding his fifth-year option (it's a near-guarantee to be picked up).
