Eid-ul-Zuha: Holiday for edu instts today, tomorrow; govt offices to function today

Time of Indiaa day ago

T'puram: The govt has declared holiday for all educational institutions in the state, including professional colleges, on Friday and Saturday owing to Eid-ul-Zuha. However, no holiday has been declared for govt offices on Friday as the govt has rescheduled the Bakrid holiday to Saturday, June 7, in accordance with the revised date of the festival.
Earlier, the holiday was scheduled for Friday, June 6. The official holiday had to be rescheduled as the moon was not sighted on time, causing the festival to be observed a day later.
IUML state general secretary PMA Salam said the state govt declared holiday for educational institutions on Friday after strong public protest. "The govt has bowed to intense protest. Instead of declaring a general holiday for all govt institutions, it has limited the holiday to educational institutions alone.
Govt offices should have been included," he said.
Holiday for central govt offices rescheduled
Following the decision of the state govt to postpone the holiday for Eid-ul-Zuha, central govt offices in Kerala will observe the holiday on Saturday, June 7. June 6 will be a working day for all central govt offices in Kerala.

Revanth dubs BRS ‘Devils Rajya Samithi', seeks 10-yr mandate for $1 tn T'gana

1 2 Hyderabad: In a scathing attack on BRS, chief minister A Revanth Reddy Friday dubbed the pink party as 'Devils Rajya Samithi (DRS),' mocking MLC K Kavitha's recent remarks about 'devils' harming her party from within. "Don't call it BRS anymore. Call it DRS," Revanth told a crowd at Alair in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, where he laid foundation for over ₹1,050 crore worth of projects. "BRS leaders themselves admit KCR is surrounded by devils. Yet their leader is asleep in the farmhouse. Go to every village and tell people these devils have arrived when BRS leaders show up," the CM said, calling upon Congress cadres to brand their rivals as 'DRS' across Telangana . With an eye on long-term governance, Revanth urged people to give the Congress a 10-year mandate, promising to make Telangana a $1 trillion economy and transform Hyderabad into a city on a par with New York and Tokyo. "I have no personal ambitions left. Bringing down KCR was my goal. Now my only aim is to develop Telangana," he declared. Revanth slammed the BRS for targeting the Congress after the PC Ghose Commission summoned KCR in connection with the Kaleshwaram project probe. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? Why this arrogance?" he asked. He accused the former CM of playing politics with the deity Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. "They denied people their right to stay atop the hill and fulfil their vows. Sins follow you like shadows. Maybe that's why KCR was hospitalised with fractures," he said. The CM laid foundation stones for projects, including the ₹574 crore Gandhamalla reservoir, ₹200 crore Young India Residential School, ₹183 crore medical college building, bridges, godowns, and roads across Alair constituency. He also vowed to develop the area under the Yadagirigutta Temple Board, much like the TTD in Andhra Pradesh. Revanth said the Congress would complete all pending irrigation projects in the region, and rejuvenate the Musi river despite resistance. "If Sabarmati and Ganga can be cleaned, why not Musi?" he asked, targeting both BRS and BJP for opposing the project. 'Employees are with Cong' Countering BRS criticism over employee issues, Revanth said, "Ask over five lakh govt employees—are you not getting your salaries on the first of every month now?" He added, "If not, don't vote for Congress. But if you are, give us another term. We treat you like family." On the caste census, he credited Telangana's 42% BC reservation plan for compelling PM Modi to promise a national-wide caste survey. TV interview in custody: HC seeks details of Bishnoi's security, who had access to him

Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana high court has directed Punjab Police to give details of all the security arrangements made for gangster Lawrence Bishnoi during his custody at the CIA Kharar facility. The court also asked the police to identify the officials responsible for either allowing or restricting access to him. The state police were asked to place on record the cogent evidence in a sealed cover for perusal of the court, detailing the entire material collected by the SIT regarding nominating of Gursher Singh Sandhu, dismissed deputy superintendent of police (DSP), in the case. Justice Alok Jain passed these orders while hearing a petition filed by Sandhu, seeking directions for calling the record of the FIR registered against him and others for facilitating the gangster's interview with a television news channel. Directions were also sought for summoning all material which led to the nomination of the other accused, suspects, including the petitioner, and further sought quashing and setting aside of notices dated May 21 and 23 issued by the probe team asking him to join the probe and restraining the investigation agency from taking coercive action against him. In his plea, Sandhu submitted that he was being made a scapegoat as the authorities had transposed him as an accused despite him not being named in an FIR. The counsel representing Sandhu submitted that the detenue (Bishnoi) was held under a three-tier security arrangement of Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Special Operations Group (SOG), and CIA, in which the petitioner was the local DSP, and that the petitioner therefore had no access to the detenue. Moreover, he lacked authority to permit anyone from SOG or AGTF to meet the detenue because those personnel were not under his command, his counsel argued. Opposing his plea, the state counsel submitted that the petitioner was posted as DSP (detective), Mohali, and by virtue of his posting, he was the immediate supervisory officer of the CIA staff, who had access to the said premises at Kharar where Bishnoi was in custody. The state also submitted that there is cogent and overwhelming evidence against the petitioner, which formed the basis for his transposing as an accused. The FIR in this matter was registered at Punjab State Crime Police Station, Mohali, relating to an interview carried out and aired by a TV news channel of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi while he was in custody and detained at CIA staff premises at Kharar in some cases. The case was registered on the directions of a division bench of the high court. Following this, Sandhu was dismissed from service on Jan 2 this year. The matter has now been adjourned to July 3 for hearing. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Eid wishes , messages , and quotes !

Govt staff JAC defers strike plan after cabinet accepts key demands

Hyderabad: The govt employees joint action committee (JAC) has indefinitely postponed their strike scheduled to be launched from June 9 following the state cabinet's decision to release two DAs and accept some of their main demands such as health cards and transfers. The JAC will meet again by the end of the month after the cabinet decisions are formally documented to decide their future course of action. JAC secretary general Eluri Sreenivasa Rao told TOI that the announcement of two DAs, govt agreeing to clear Rs 700 crore per month in pending bills of employees, constitution of a medical invalidation committee, health cards, a departmental promotion committee for transfers and recognition of employees' unions were some of the main demands of the JAC that have been agreed to by the govt. "As a result, the JAC has decided to indefinitely postpone its strike call. However, the govt did not announce anything about our other main demands such as 51% fitment (Pay Revision Commission) and reverting to the old pension system. There were a total of 57 demands, and the JAC is expecting to meet again with the IAS officers' committee led by Navin Mittal and cabinet sub-committee led by deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka to seek a commitment from the govt on the remaining demands," Sreenivasa Rao said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en San Rafael (ver precio) Verisure Undo Sources in the govt said that although the cabinet discussed the 51% fitment (PRC) demand, it was of the view that more time was needed to announce a consensual fitment, if not 51%, as the govt has decided to clear pending bills of employees every month and has also announced two DAs, both of which are financially intensive demands. "A decision on increasing the retirement age of govt employees was kept pending, anticipating severe backlash from the students and unemployed youth. The govt is of the opinion that no step should be taken at this juncture which may antagonise the youth, who are happy with the incumbent govt giving nearly 60,000 jobs in its first year of office. A decision on the age of superannuation may be taken after panchayat and municipal polls, but only after giving job notifications for at least another 30,000 govt posts," said the source. Regarding the employees' demand for reverting to the old pension system, an election promise of the Congress, sources said the govt may make an announcement about it only in the last year of its present term or a few months before the next assembly elections.
