Men's ethnic wear brand Kalpraag has launched a new flagship store in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, expanding its footprint in India's premium fashion markets. The opening marks a strategic move for the brand as it aims to connect with urban consumers seeking a blend of tradition and modernity.
'Hyderabad has always embraced culture and craftsmanship, and we're excited to bring Kalpraag's signature ethnic styles to the city,' said Kalpraag's founder Mayank Jain, India Retailing reported. 'This store reflects our commitment to delivering quality, unique designs and a memorable shopping experience.'
Kalpraag offers a curated selection of menswear including kurtas, kurta bundis, jodhpuris, and sherwanis, according to its Facebook page. The brand's new Hyderabad store is designed to reflect Kalpraag's vision of making high-quality, culturally inspired fashion more accessible to discerning shoppers.
Hyderabad's strong cultural identity and evolving fashion scene make it a natural fit for Kalpraag's design language, which reinterprets traditional silhouettes for the modern man. With its new presence in Banjara Hills, the brand is positioning itself as a destination for ethnic menswear in the city. The launch also supports Kalpraag's broader strategy to grow in culturally rich urban centres while offering heritage-driven collections to today's Indian customer.

Nike partners with NorBlack NorWhite for collaborative collection
Global sportswear brand Nike has partnered with Indian apparel brand NorBlack NorWhite to launch a collection that reimagines the traditional Indian tie-dye technique bandhani through sportswear silhouettes. The partnership marks Nike's first collaborative collection with an India-based label. "Our global collab with Nike is officially live, and heard we are India's first to ever do it," announced NorBlack NorWhite on Facebook. "Fifteen years ago when NBNW was born, we couldn't imagine bringing our love for bandhani (tie-dye) into the sports arena, but here we are and it's feeling too beautiful. Grateful for everyone who brought this to life." The collection features women's apparel ranging from shorts and tops to tights and bras. Accessories include sneakers and a crossbody bag, all designed to transition from the sports field to the street. With a campaign shot in Jaipur by photographer Bharat Sikka, the collection's promotions also highlight several Indian sportswomen, including sprinter Priya Mohan and wrestler Anshu Malik. The collection has launched globally on Nike's e-commerce store as well as in select offline outlets. "We were briefed by Nike around the themes of Burst and Ripple," NorBlack NorWhite's founders Mriga Kapadiya and Amrit Kumar told Elle India about the collaboration. "The inspiration came from how radiant a singular ripple can transpire into larger movements, especially in textile form. The bleeding colors from tie-dye felt like the perfect metaphor. Fruition stood out to us — this moment felt like the explosion of flavors and feelings that have been building for years." After relocating to India, Canada-born entrepreneurs Mriga Kapadiya and Amrit Kumar launched NorBlack NorWhite in 2009. The brand is known for its work with indigenous artisan communities, especially in the Kutch region of Gujarat.

French jeweler Courbet placed in compulsory liquidation
French jeweler Courbet, known for its lab-grown diamonds and recycled gold, was placed in judicial liquidation on May 20 by the commercial court, marking the end of its operations. The company had been in receivership since November 2024. Founded in 2018 by Manuel Mallen and Marie-Ann Wachtmeister, Courbet had received backing from Chanel and attracted interest from three potential buyers. Headquartered in Place Vendôme, Courbet positioned itself as a pioneer in jewelry crafted with laboratory-grown diamonds. In 2020, the brand secured 8 million euros in funding from Raise Ventures and Hylink, China's largest digital communications agency. The investment aimed to support the brand's domestic and international expansion, fund research initiatives, and develop French diamond production. However, industry observers believe that Courbet's push into the Chinese market and the resulting costs contributed to its financial challenges. Three parties submitted takeover offers: Qatari businessman Mohamed Jaidah, an existing shareholder in Courbet; Fenix Diamonds Belgium, the European subsidiary of Indian group Fenix Diamonds; and Tya Finance, led by French entrepreneur Stéphane Collaert, who acquired Lyon-based jewelry retailer Cégéor Créations in 2023. In 2021, Courbet reported sales of 5 million euros, with 80% of revenue generated in Europe. By 2023, however, sales had declined to below 4 million euros.
