Potential future Steelers WR Matthew Golden clocks insane 40 time at NFL Scouting Combine
The Pittsburgh Steelers may have just found their next wide receiver of the future at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine—and he's blazing fast.
Matthew Golden, a wide receiver out of Texas University, who has been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a variety of mock drafts, just posted one of the fastest 40-yard dash times at the combine, with an unofficial 4.3 seconds flat.
Golden had a strong 2024 regular season, producing 987 receiving yards and 9 TDs on just 58 receptions, with an incredible 17 yards per catch.
His teammate, fellow Texas Longhorn WR Isaiah Bond, boldly claimed that he would set the 40-yard dash record, yet Golden left his unofficial 4.4 in the dust in hilarious fashion.
Golden's strong combine performance leaves many fans wondering if the Pittsburgh Steelers should draft the lightning-quick receiver with their 21st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. While the decision was met with skepticism leading up to the combine, no one can deny what an incredible move that would be now.

Colin Cowherd Doesn't Hold Back on Aaron Rodgers Signing With Steelers

Colin Cowherd Doesn't Hold Back on Aaron Rodgers Signing With Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After months of waiting, the Pittsburgh Steelers got their quarterback for the 2025 NFL season. Last week, Aaron Rodgers agreed to terms with the Steelers on a one-year contract worth $13.65 million. Since then, the speculation about how Rodgers will fare in the Steel City has been a major talking point by sports pundits. Advertisement On Wednesday, Colin Cowherd delivered his diagnosis of how he believes the Rodgers-Steelers partnership will play out during his show, "The Herd." "I think it's pretty clear it's going to be pretty bumpy. I think I'm doing Aaron a solid by (predicting a) 9-8 (record). My guess it could be 7-10," said Cowherd. Cowherd then began to list off elite quarterbacks from recent years who have switched teams late in their careers and categorized them into two camps: successful and unsuccessful. "Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, Philip Rivers went to Indy, Aaron Rodgers with the Jets, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan and Cam Newton. Let's put them in two camps, one being successful. Brady won a Super Bowl. Stafford won a Super Bowl. Peyton Manning won a Super Bowl. Philip Rivers had a shockingly good year in his last year in the NFL in Indianapolis. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8).© Philip G. Pavely-Imagn Images "And then you have the other camp, the less successful camp," Cowherd continued. "The truth is if you have a defensive coach as an old quarterback who's past your prime. It's going to be turbulent. It's not going to be pretty. This is going to be hard." Advertisement Rodgers joined his Steelers teammates on Tuesday on the first day of mandatory minicamp, which runs for three days and concludes on Thursday. The 41-year-old quarterback told the media signing with Pittsburgh was "best for my soul" and pointed to head coach Mike Tomlin as a big reason for joining the Steelers. Rodgers finished last year with the New York Jets by passing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Steelers averaged 192.0 passing yards per game in 2024, ranking 27th, and allowed 49 sacks, tied for the ninth-most. Steelers going back to afternoon practices at training camp

The Steelers moved their training practices to the morning in 2024, but they are going back to the afternoon this summer. Head coach Mike Tomlin discussed the change in plans for the team's work in Latrobe. Tomlin said that he is hoping that the hotter weather at that time of day makes for a more prepared football team when the Steelers get to Week One in September. 'It wasn't hot enough last year, to be quite honest with you,' Tomlin said, via the team's facility. 'Heat aids in the development of physical conditioning. It makes it a more stressful environment, and that's what we go to camp for. We go to camp to get better, and if it's a little bit more miserable later in the day, man, that's what we want.' The Steelers got out to an 10-3 start last season before fading to 10-7 and losing in the Wild Card round. If all goes according to plan this year, their summer work will help them put forth a more consistent effort this fall.

Steelers rookie QB Will Howard blown away by DK Metcalf's work ethic and leadership

Steelers rookie QB Will Howard blown away by DK Metcalf's work ethic and leadership It's hard not to be impressed with DK Metcalf — just ask Steelers rookie Will Howard. After Thursday's practice at mandatory minicamp, Howard couldn't stop praising the 6'4' Steelers receiver (courtesy of Steelers Live): 'I mean, just look at the guy. He's a specimen. He's something else. Just the way he covers ground in his strides — and the way that he works,' Howard said. 'You see a lot of guys like that — it's rare to see somebody that's willing to catch for a rookie quarterback on any route he needs. You know, 'Hey DK, can you go spot up a corner for me?' 'No problem.' He's super hardworking — just respectful, goes about his business, and a great dude too. If I make a good play, he's coming over to me and dapping me up. He's been awesome, man, and I'm excited to get to work with him.' Here's to hoping the young signal caller develops into the Steelers' long-term starting QB — and that the Howard-to-Metcalf connection is one fans can look forward to for years to come.
