Woman Starts Her GMC Denali SUV. Then It Sputters Out
A woman captured the moment her GMC Yukon Denali sputtered out on video. She then asked the internet if this is "normal." Unfortunately for her, the answer appears to be yes.
On May 31, TikToker Shelby Thomason (@shelbythomason3) posted a video showing a parked GMC Yukon Denali. Its engine is rumbling in a clear sign of distress.

The location on the video indicates the SUV is parked at the Capitol Buick GMC Service Center in San Jose, California. The comments section is rife with complaints about the Denali.
One viewer wrote, "Just traded my 2024 Denali with 22,000 miles for this reason last week."

Last month,
General Motors
announced
the recall
of an eyebrow-raising 600,000 trucks and SUVs it sold in the United States, including the Yukon and Yukon XL.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
reports
that the issue potentially affects the following models released between 2021 and 2024: Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV; Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe; and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL.
According to GM's recall
report
, "The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components in these vehicles may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure." If an engine fails while it's being driven, the car will stop moving forward, which could lead to a crash.
Drivers can reportedly tell that their vehicle is at risk of engine failure if they hear an odd banging coming from under the hood. The NHTSA says to look out for a check engine light, high RPMs, abnormal shifting, or the vehicle not starting. It's best to avoid driving if you suspect engine issues.
People who suspect their car has been impacted should take it to the dealership for an inspection. If the vehicle passes inspection, it gets an oil change, and the owner will be on his or her way. If the engine is already failing due to the issue, GM will replace it free of charge.
Owners should receive notification letters by mail, or can proactively check their car's status online using their vehicle identification number (VIN).
On a
Reddit
thread
posted to r/GMC a month ago, commenters expressed confusion and dismay about the recall and its process.
One person wrote, 'My concern is how comfortable will I be hauling my family around in it after the dealer tells me I'm just getting the oil replacement. One article (on
gmauthority.com
I think) said of the reported cases, '14,332 involved allegations of lost propulsion'. That's a lot. I do a lot of interstate driving and don't want to be thinking about this as I'm going over the Delaware Memorial Bridge or across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.'
The NHTSA
backs this
claim up. Of those alleged incidents when a vehicle abruptly stopped moving while it was being driven, 12 resulted in potentially related crashes and 12 potentially related injuries. All the injuries were minor.

How Waymo got caught in the crossfire of Los Angeles ICE protests
Waymo vehicles, the self-driving taxis from Google parent company Alphabet, have emerged as a literal flashpoint in the Los Angeles ICE protests, which ramped up heavily over the weekend. The protests against the president's immigration crackdown in the city began on Friday, as ICE raids broke out among several majority-Latino neighborhoods such as Paramount. Although the subsequent protests were reportedly mostly peaceful, Trump deemed them sufficiently disruptive to warrant sending in 2,000 National Guard troops on Saturday. It was a historic escalation, the first time a president has activated the National Guard without request from a state's governor since 1965 —and it provoked an incendiary reaction. On Sunday, amid rising tensions, protesters ultimately set at least five Waymo vehicles ablaze. Though their reasons for doing so remain unconfirmed, plenty of evidence suggests what might have fueled their actions. Waymo, one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies for 2025, first began as a Google self-driving car project in 2009, before launching commercially in Phoenix in 2020. The company then spread out to San Francisco in 2022, before hitting Los Angeles last November. As of last December, the service had driven over 50 million rider-only miles, according to the company's website. Around 100 of Waymo's 1,500 total robotaxis currently operate in Los Angeles during normal conditions, covering roughly 79 square miles from Santa Monica to downtown L.A. After those five cars were destroyed on Sunday, though, the company removed vehicles from downtown L.A. and shut down service in that area for the time being. ('We are in touch with law enforcement,' a representative from the company confirmed to Fast Company.) Before the end of the day, both X and Bluesky ensured that images and videos of the fiery vehicles had circulated widely, leaving a trail of jokes and finger-wagging in their wake. Setting vehicles on fire has a long history in protest going back at least to the 1992 Los Angeles riots following the verdict in the Rodney King trial, and before that, the 1968 Paris Student & Workers' Uprising in Paris. Though obviously illegal, igniting cars tends to serve as a defiant expression of rage and hopelessness in the face of perceived oppression. On a practical level, one reason protesters might be choosing Waymos is because they are owned by a massive tech company, rather than any one individual. (Alphabet led a $5.6 billion funding round for Waymo last fall, to cover costs through the division's next growth period.) Destroying these cars comes with a guarantee that no drivers will be injured, financially or otherwise, since no such drivers exist. Protesters can simply order up a Waymo to incinerate as easily as ordering a pizza. Their very lack of humanity makes them ripe targets in a civil uprising. Of course, there appear to be strategic reasons for targeting Waymos as well. According to a report from 404 Media back in April, the LAPD is known to requisition and publish footage from these autonomous vehicles, which are equipped with roving cameras, to solve various crimes around the city. Since Waymos can function as mobile panoramic Ring cameras, protesters who prefer to limit the amount they are captured on film have incentive to disable as many Waymos as possible. Rumors circulated on Bluesky late on Sunday that some protesters may have set Waymos on fire strictly because the cars may be essentially collecting evidence for future trials, although vandalism of the cars seems extremely traceable. However, one final reason why protesters may have targeted Waymos is because there is an overlap between the people defending their immigrant neighbors and the people who are generally against society's automated future. No civil unrest was necessary, after all, for a fired-up Lunar New Year crowd in San Francisco to set a Waymo on fire in February 2024. All it took was an autonomous cab jamming its way into an intersection packed with revelers who happened to be loaded for bear with fireworks—and an increasing sense that driverless cabs are now a symbol of everything people hate about AI. There have been further incidents of Waymo vandalism, though, in both San Francisco and Los Angeles in the months since.

Trump to Keep White House Starlink as Musk Feud Dissipates
President Donald Trump reiterated his desire to end his public spat with Elon Musk, telling reporters he would retain Starlink internet service at the White House and that he wished his billionaire backer 'very well.' Still, the US president suggested he may remove the Tesla Inc. car he purchased from White House grounds and suggested the onus was on Musk to reach out after an explosive week that saw the pair trade insults and threats in a dispute that began over the president's signature tax bill.

The best Mario Kart World karts: find the right kart for your driving style
There was no better choice for a Switch 2 launch title than Mario Kart World. The last game was easily one of the best Switch games of all time, if not one of the best racing games ever made. Mario Kart World has even more characters, more items, a vast open world to explore, but also new karts. Just like in Mario Kart 8, the kart you pick changes more than just the appearance. Recommended Videos Each one has a different stat distribution that alters the way it performs. You don't have to worry about swapping out tires or gliders to get the best stats this time, just your kart and character. But there are a lot of karts this time around, and comparing all their stats is daunting. Instead, make a pit stop as we go over the best Mario Kart World karts after testing them over hundreds of races. How to unlock Mario Kart World karts You will only have access to 11 karts when starting Mario Kart World, with the remaining 29 waiting to be unlocked. You unlock additional karts as you collect coins during races, with a total of 3,000 coins needed to unlock them all. If you don't have one of the karts below, keep doing races and grabbing as many coins as you can. Best Mario Kart World kart overall So far, the meta in Mario Kart World has settled on one kart standing above all the rest. The Baby Blooper kart is currently the king of the track thanks to its high acceleration and handling stats. If you are using one of the heavy characters, you will notice a huge edge over the competition. Best Mario Kart World kart for acceleration If your issue is getting up to top speed as soon as possible, you will want to check out the Pipe Frame. It is on par with a couple of others for acceleration, but has better top speed and the handling needed to stay in control. Another option here would be the B Dasher, which has almost completely even stats across the board. Best Mario Kart World kart for top speed If you're good enough, top speed matters much more than acceleration since that only comes into play if you lose your speed. While risky, Stellar Sled is the king of speed. You will need to have your handling on point here since that stat is particularly low, but this kart can set some records. Best Mario Kart World kart for handling Handling is an overlooked aspect of your kart. Sure, you can compensate with skill to some degree, but playing a heavy character with a low mobility kart can feel like you're turning against molasses. A kart like the Biddubuggy has exceptional handling without too many major tradeoffs that has carried us to many victories.
