VAI Resort reveal: See the music-themed guest rooms with concert views
The future largest resort in Arizona just shared the first photos of its model hotel rooms.
VAI Resort in Glendale, which plans to open its first phase in late 2025 after several years under construction, shared photos of the model rooms in its Amphitheater Tower.
Accommodations in VAI's music-themed wing are described as "sleek, modern rooms designed for privacy and comfort." Amphitheater Tower is one of four towers of guest rooms and the one that will overlook the 11,000-capacity concert venue VAI Amphitheater.
The photos appear to complement the next-level experiences VAI is promising. Its amphitheater, which is being developed in partnership with the engineering firm TAIT, will include a custom-designed array of moving LED screens. On-site dining will include the first Arizona restaurant for Michelin-starred chef José Andrés.

VAI Resort will have 1,100 rooms across four towers: Amphitheater Tower, Rhythm Tower, Cadence Tower and VAI Villas. The resort will open in phases; when complete, it will have the most rooms of any Arizona hotel.
Amphitheater Tower will have 326 guest rooms and suites, hotel spokesperson Shannon Sproul said. Of those, 149 will feature private balconies that face the amphitheater stage, offering concert views.

The Arizona Republic saw one of Amphitheater Tower's model rooms on visits to the construction site. We described the look and feel of the room as comparable to guests entering "their own personal Hard Rock Cafe, where the décor includes a guitar above the bed and photos of musicians performing."
The model room has a king bed, sofa, desk and flat-screen TV. The bathroom features toiletries from Byredo, a European brand of luxury perfume and skin care products. There's a minibar stocked with wine and spirits and a coffee bar with an Illy espresso machine.
Reservations and room rates for VAI Resort aren't yet available, Sproul said.

Bosnia is a stable democracy that obtained a 'candidate status' for EU membership in 2022 and is well on the way of synchronizing its legislative and legal frameworks with European standards. It is extensively linked by road and rail networks to European smelters and the seaborne markets via Adriatic Sea. The population of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in both entities and both local and federal government levels, is largely supportive of mining industry which is not surprising considering its rich history of coal, base and precious metal mining. The country possesses a highly skilled and business-minded workforce with a youthful engineering base keen to learn about mining and best practices in the mineral resource sector. Both Bosnian entities have enacted clear and concise mining codes with the country-wide corporate tax rate of 10% and favourable royalty regimes without free carry requirements. The Western Tethyan Belt is the world's preeminent metallogenic corridor akin to the Andes and Cordilleras of the Americas. In the Balkans, it is divided into the Cretaceous and Neogene components (Figure 1), both of which are known for multiple Tier-1 deposits of precious, base (Cu-Sb-Zn-Pb), and energy transition (Li-B) metals appearing in a variety of genetic styles (skarn, veined epithermal, porphyry and sediment-hosted associations) Figure 1. Viogor-Zanik Project Terra Balcanica is currently defining grade and ore approximate volumes of two polymetallic targets situated within our 168 km2 Viogor-Zanik project (Figure 2). The shallow, high grade character of structurally controlled mineralization yields to potentially easy-to-operate, open-pit or shallow underground mining operations. An additional benefit is presented by the adjacent Pb-Zn-Ag-Sb mine owned by Mineco Ltd. that generates 350 ktpa of ore concentrate with onsite crushing and flotation circuits. After 2,200 m of diamond drilling completed at Chumavichi, high grade Ag-Sb-Pb-Zn-Au mineralizations have been confirmed at three targets spanning 2 km of strike along a shallow, fault-hosted, intermediate sulfidation, polymetallic vein system. Major Airlines Cancel 650 European Flights as Delays Rock Travelers
The Israeli strikes against Iran are affecting travelers around the world as multiple major airlines have canceled or delayed flights. And they're not just flights to Israel. The turmoil is affecting worldwide travel. Multiple major airlines have cancelled or diverted "thousands of flights," straining airlines already struggling with profitability, according to Reuters. Eurocontrol told Reuters that it's not just the Middle East; about 1,800 flights to and from Europe were affected by the turmoil on June 13 by mid morning, including 650 cancelled flights, Reuters reported. Air India announced a string of diverted flights, including some from or to European destinations and the U.S. There were 15,964 delayed flights worldwide on June 13 with 928 cancellations, including 168 into or out of the U.S., FlightAware reported. Flight tracking sites showed there was no commercial air travel over Iran, Israel, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq on June 13. The airports in Tehran, Tel Aviv, and Amman were all closed. Global air travel has been disrupted, CNN reported. According to Reuters, flying through the Middle East region is an "important route for international flights between Europe and Asia," especially since Russian and Ukrainian airspace was already shut down. Travel to Israel or the Middle East was impacted most. Airlines that had canceled, delayed, or "redirected" flights on June 13 included "Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, and Air India, as well as the German-based Lufthansa," according to CBS. In addition, El-Al and Isair, which are Israeli airlines, "evacuated planes from Tel Aviv," CBS reported. The cancellations affected the region around Israel but also "beyond," the network reported. Israel's Ben-Gurion airport was completely closed to air travel passengers. Emirates "canceled flights to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Iran," CBS reported. Portland, Get Ready for Stellar Michelin-Starred Texas Barbecue Royalty
The Portland barbecue scene is getting a surprise entrant: Michelin-starred Austin, Texas, favorite La Barbecue is setting up an outpost far from home with the planned opening of sister restaurant Lil' Barbecue this year. Ben Vaughan, general manager and pitmaster at the Austin-based outfit, will be leading the charge to bring brisket, pork and beef ribs, sausages, and more to a yet-to-be-found locale in Portland. Vaughan says he initially pitched the idea of expanding to La Barbecue owner Ali Clem, after enjoying his first trip to Portland last year. When he talked to locals about what he does for work back in Texas, he received a lot of encouragement to open a restaurant. 'They were like, 'You've got to move up here. We need more barbecue,'' Vaughan says. 'That got the wheels turning in my head of, I could move up there, you know?' The idea of expansion wasn't a far-off concept. Clem and her late wife LeAnn Mueller, a descendant of Texas barbecue royalty, had previously attempted to open a Los Angeles-area food truck in 2017, only to have those plans nixed due to Los Angeles County regulations around the use of offset smokers. But the move to Portland will give Vaughan a chance to escape the oppressive Central Texas summer heat, he says. 'The weather here is rough,' Vaughan says. 'I don't know if you've ever been in Central Texas in the summer, but it's hot and humid, and I work outside over smokers all day, so everything just fell into place when I brought [the idea of expanding] to Ali; she signed off and was excited about it, so I've been working on a concept for a few months now.' (Just don't tell him about those heat domes.) As for Lil' Barbecue's menu, Vaughan says it'll be 'very similar' to La Barbecue's offerings, meaning saucy pork ribs with 'a bright, lightly sweet crust,' as Texas Monthly describes it; pulled pork; brisket; beef ribs; smoked turkey; and homemade, snappy sausages in traditional, jalapeño, and chipotle flavors. If the rest of the menu holds true, diners can expect to pull any of those meats into a sandwich, and there will also be a number of specialty sandwich options where one can get a pulled pork sandwich laden with chipotle coleslaw or a Frito pie with chopped brisket. One change from the Austin original will be the shift to an all-day, bar-restaurant format; Vaughan says that barbecue in Central Texas is very much a lunch thing that goes from 11 a.m. until sellout around 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. He's hoping to keep a steady stream of food going throughout the day, so people won't have to rush to get that hit of barbecue. There will also be the added layer of bar food, with Vaughan already picturing selling a burger made of brisket trimmings that is typically a special at La Barbecue. Clem will be a co-owner in the new venture, and Vaughan says she'll be in Portland at the end of June to help scout a location for the new restaurant. They're looking to open on the East side of Portland, if possible, and Vaughan praised the walkability of the city, which is different from the Austin scene (though both cities favor food trucks and claim to keep it weird). Besides locking down a location, the buildout of two custom, Texas-made smokers will add to the timeline of the opening. They have a rotisserie smoker being built by M&M BBQ Company, as well as an offset smoker from Mill Scale Metalworks in Lockhart, Texas, both of which are set to be completed and delivered by August or September.
