Past glory of Ghantasala to be restored
Ghantasala (Krishna district): On the occasion of Gautama Buddha Jayanti, grand celebrations were held on Monday at the Reclining Buddha Project premises in Ghantasala, a Buddhist site in the Avanigadda constituency, under the aegis of the State Creative Culture Committee and the Department of Language and Culture.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector in-charge Geetanjali Sharma stated that plans are being formulated to develop two key areas in the district as tourist destinations. One is Manginapudi Beach, and the other is Ghantasala, which is to be included in the tourism circuit with the aim of completing the Reclining Buddha Project.
Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad explained that Gautama Buddha began his spiritual journey with the resolve to share the light of wisdom that arose in his heart under the Bodhi tree, and his birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana all occurred on Vaisakha Purnima.
Director of the Epigraphy Division of Archaeological Survey of India K Muniratnam Reddy said that six months ago, the Prime Minister's Office sought information. Former Rajya Sabha member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, Director of the State Language and Culture Department Mallikarjuna Rao, Special Officer MEPMA PD Saibabu, Krishna District Writers' Association President Guthikonda Subbarao, State Drama Academy Chairman Gummadi Gopalakrishna also participated.

Delhi Court Refuses to Take Cognisance of Chargesheet Against Udit Raj in Protest Case
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday refused to take cognisance of a chargesheet against Congress functionary Udit Raj in a case of allegedly disobeying a Delhi Police prohibitory order while holding a protest at the house of former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier this year. The court of additional chief judicial magistrate Neha Mittal said there was nothing on record to show that the accused had knowledge of the order. "It is also pertinent to note that there is no evidence on record regarding the identity of the accused. Despite the fact that the incident in question was videographed by the police officials, the accused cannot be seen in the entire video," it added. Raj, along with a few others, staged a protest near Kejriwal's residence on Jan 20, demanding a monthly salary for Buddhist monks and priests of Guru Ravidas and Valmiki temples. According to police, Raj's protest caused traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters. Police claimed that the protesters were informed about the prohibitory order and the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct through loudspeaker announcements. However, the court found these claims unsubstantiated. The court also said that no police officer was specifically named in the chargesheet as having made such an announcement, nor were their statements recorded under Section 180 BNS. "In view of the above discussion, this court is of the considered opinion that there does not exist sufficient ground for taking cognisance of the offence punishable under Section 223 BNS. No other offence appears to be made out from the chargesheet. Accordingly, cognisance in the present case is declined," the judge concluded. Minister of State L. Murugan meets Vietnamese delegation
India and Vietnam on Thursday (June 5, 2025) agreed to step up cooperation in the media and entertainment sector during a meeting held between Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, L. Murugan, and a delegation of high-ranking officials from Vietnam. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Nguyen Trong Nghia, Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and chairperson of the CPV's Central Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation. The meeting was also attended by I&B Secretary Sanjay Jaju, and other senior officials of the Ministry. 'India and Vietnam share traditionally close and warm bilateral relations. In 2022, the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The India - Vietnam bilateral relations were elevated in the year 2016 to the level of 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Vietnam,' a government release said. 'Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia lauded India's impressive growth as the world's fourth largest economy and emphasised the strong friendship and partnership between both the countries,' it said, adding that it was proposed to have programmes for enhanced cooperation between media organisations of both sides. "Unanimity in support for action against terrorism": Ravi Shankar Prasad in Belgium
Brussels [Belgium], June 5 (ANI): BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, leading an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation as part of India's big diplomatic outreach to refocus attention on terrorism in the wake of Operation Sindoor, said that there has to be a 'collective resolve' in the fight against terrorism, for human values, democracy, and humanity. After the delegation meets with the Members of European Parliament (MEPs) from the delegation for relations with India, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Security and Defence, Ravi Shankar Prasad described the meeting as 'extraordinary' 'There was unanimity in support for action against terrorism, and they were the first to convey solidarity to India,' said Ravi Shankar Prasad. 'India is a stabilising country, a big country, a democratic country, and there has to be a collective resolve in the fight against terrorism, for human values, democracy, and humanity. That was the essence of the discussions,' Prasad added. Earlier, BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari said, 'India is capable enough of taking care of itself. The Indian army never surrenders. But they thunder. We not only had male armed officers taking the front line, but we had women, too, who took the front line on the battlefield.' 'What is important here is to tell the entire world that today terrorism is not the conventional terrorism, but we are facing unconventional forms of terrorism in the form of radicalisation, sleeper cells and so on. So if it is at the doorstep of India today, it could be at your doorstep tomorrow,' she said. Samik Bhattacharya, part of the delegation, cautioned about the impact of terrorism and its spread to Europe in the future. During the two-day visit, the delegation is scheduled to hold several meetings aimed at consolidating global consensus against cross-border terrorism. The delegation includes BJP MPs Daggubati Purandeswari and Samik Bhattacharya, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress MPs Ghulam Ali Khatana and Amar Singh, former Union Minister MJ Akbar, and former Ambassador Pankaj Saran. Earlier, the delegation visited the UK to garner widespread support for India's fight against terrorism and highlight Pakistan's role in fostering terrorism. The team received support from British parliamentarians, think tanks, and the Indian diaspora. Ravi Shankar Prasad noted that they met UK leaders, including the Speaker of the House of Commons and Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel, and underlined the need for greater global accountability in terrorism financing, while reinforcing India's democratic approach. The diplomatic effort is part of India's broader global outreach following Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 as a military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, which claimed 26 lives. Subsequently, the Indian Armed Forces carried out strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
