Karun Nair, who returned to the national set up after 8 long years for India's upcoming tour of England, said that he was grateful for the opportunity to represent India again. 'Feels really special,' Nair told bcci.tv. (I'm) Very grateful and fortunate to be able to get this opportunity again. Looking forward to grabbing this opportunity with both hands,' he added.
Nair, India's second-ever Test triple centurion, was welcomed to the side by head coach Gautam Gambhir.
'Comebacks are never easy. The amount of runs you've got, the never-give-up attitude — it's inspiring for the entire team. Welcome back, Karun Nair,' the coach was seen saying in the video.
His longtime statemate KL Rahul, with whom he has played since his U-14 days spoke about his resilience when chips were down.

'I've known him for a very long time,' Rahul said. 'The months he has spent here in the UK playing cricket and how hard and how lonely it was.
'For him to be able to do all of that and come back into the Indian team is special for him and his family, and friends like us who've seen his journey.' Rahul termed the journey inspirational for one and all.
'It's very inspiring as well. Hopefully his experience and learnings from County cricket here will hold him in good stead when he plays the Test matches.'
For Karun, it still feels surreal that he is back in the Indian dressing room.
'I'll have to experience that feeling myself, just go out there and feel it for myself. I'm sure there'll be a lot of feelings, ones that I can't express right now. It'll be a surreal feeling.'
The last of Nair's six Test appearances came in March 2017. It is during this run that he famously scored an unbeaten triple century against England in December 2016 in Chennai. However, he scored just 71 runs across his six other innings before and after that knock which led to him losing his spot in Indian team.

Gambhir flies back due to family emergency
New Delhi: A week before India begins their five-match Test series against England in Leeds, head coach Gautam Gambhir has flown back home due to a family emergency. Gambhir had been with the Indian team at Beckenham ahead of their intra-squad practice match starting on Friday. 'Yes it came to the light yesterday that Gambhir would be flying back home due to an important family emergency related to his mother. As of now, we believe that Gambhir has already linked up with his family in New Delhi. 'Keeping in mind the current situation, it's not known yet about when he would join the India team ahead of the Test series' commencement,' said sources aware of development to IANS on Friday. In Gambhir's absence, alongside batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip will help the Indian team prepare for the upcoming Test series against Ben Stokes-led England, which starts at Headingley. The Test tour of England will also be right-handed batter Shubman Gill's first assignment as the captain of the Indian team, following the retirement of Rohit Sharma last month. At 25 years and 258 days, Gill will also become the fifth-youngest cricketer to captain India in Tests. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will be India's vice-captain on the all-important Test series, which runs from June 20 to August 4. Shooting World Cup: Suruchi enters 10m air pistol final
Suruchi Inder Singh stormed into the final of 10m Air Pistol women at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shooting World Cup (rifle/pistol), while Paris Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker missed out to make the cut here on Friday. Suruchi scored 588 with 20 inner 10s to be placed second in the qualification, behind Yao Qianxun of China, who topped the qualification chart with Qualification World Record Junior of 589 - 21x. Meanwhile, Manu failed to make the final after finishing 25th after shooting 574 - 14x, while another Indian in the fray, Palak, finished 36th with 570 - 18x. Interestingly, Suruchi had pipped Manu in the women's 10m air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup 2025 Lima in Peru to win the gold in April this year. Suruchi shot a total of 243.6 in the final to beat compatriot Manu, a two-time Olympic medallist who shot 242.3 to grab the silver. This was Suruchi's second successive gold in the women's 10m air pistol event at ISSF World Cups this year. The 19-year-old from Jhajjar in Haryana won the gold medal in Buenos Aires in early April to mark her maiden podium finish at a senior World Cup.
