Shani Jayanti 2025: Shani Jayanti, also known as Shanichar Jayanti or Shani Amavasya, is a significant Hindu observance dedicated to the deity Shani Dev, associated with the planet Saturn and the weekday Saturday.
According to Hindu scriptures, Shani Dev was born to Surya Dev (the Sun God) and his consort Chhaya (also known as Swarna in some texts).
It is an auspicious Hindu observance celebrated on the new moon day of the month of Jyeshtha of the North Indian Purnimant calendar. In 2025, it will be observed on May 27, falling on a Tuesday, as stated in Drik Panchang.
On Shani Jayanti, devotees observe a fast to please Lord Shani and visit Shani temples to seek the blessings of Lord Shani, marked by havan, homa, and yagya to please Lord Shani.
The most important rituals performed on the day of Shani Jayanti are Shani Tailabhishekam (ritual oil bathing) and Shani Shanti Puja (pacification rites for Lord Shani)..
It is believed that Lord Shani believes in fair justice and bestows good fortune and prosperity on his devotees and also on those who worship Mahadev with immense devotion and dedication, since Shani Dev was a devoted follower of Lord Shiva.
If you're planning a temple visit on this spiritually significant day, below are ten Shani Dev temples across India.
By observing Shani Jayanti with sincerity and devotion, devotees believe they can gain relief from obstacles, misfortunes, and karmic challenges and receive blessings for a life of righteousness and inner strength.

First Hindu School In Australia To Open In 2027 With $8.5 Mn Grant

Last Updated: Australia announced an $8.5 million grant to build the country's first Hindu school. Located in Oakville, Sydney, the school will serve over 1,000 students. In April, Australia announced a grant of $8.5 million to help the Hindu community in the country build its first Hindu school. Posting about the development on the microblogging platform 'X', Australian Education Minister Jason Clare stated that the investment will make the dreams of the Australian Hindu community a reality. He also said that the government will also commit $2.4m to expand the work of Karma Kitchen which helps to feed homeless Aussies. 'Today we announced an $8.5m commitment to help build the first Hindu school in Australia. This investment will make the dreams of the Australian Hindu community a reality," Clare posted on 'X'. 'And on top of that, we'll commit $2.4m to expand the work of Karma Kitchen which helps to feed homeless Aussies," he added. When Will The School Open? According to reports, Australia's first Hindu school is expected to welcome its first batch of students in 2027. The school will offer classes from kindergarten through Year 12, with plans to accommodate over 1,000 students. Located in Oakville, in Sydney's north-west, the land for the school was acquired through community fundraising efforts. The Hindu Education and Cultural Centre (HEACC) will be responsible for administering the institution. Hinduism is currently among the fastest-growing religions in Australia. However, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, however, there is no mainstream Hindu school in the country a gap the Sanatan School aims to address. Why A Hindu School? 'A Hindu school has been missing from Australia's multicultural tapestry for too long, and the amount of enthusiasm and encouragement we have heard is testament to that," Aggarwal told The Sydney Morning Herald. Surinder Jain, Vice President of the Hindu Council of Australia, echoed this sentiment, telling the outlet, 'I struggled, and most other parents struggled, to work out how to teach our Hindu values to our children." 'We've all had to improvise at home. And while that works, a formal system was always needed, and many parents have been wishing for a school for a while," he said. What Will Students Learn? The Hindu School will follow the standard NSW curriculum while also offering religious education tailored to Hindu teachings. Although the exact fee structure is yet to be finalised, it is estimated to range between $10,000 and $15,000 per year, according to the report. First Published: June 06, 2025, 15:06 IST

When is Raksha Bandhan in 2025?

Raksha Bandhan 2025 Date in India: Raksha Bandhan, also known as Rakhi, is an auspicious Hindu festival which celebrates sibling love and is widely celebrated throughout the country. Raksha Bandhan translates into 'bond of protection, obligation, and care', and on this day, sisters tie a thread, known as a rakhi, around their brother's wrist, symbolising love and protection. The origins of Raksha Bandhan can be traced back to the popular legend of Lord Krishna and Draupadi. According to the scriptures, Lord Krishna was touched by Draupadi's concern when he cut his finger. To stop the bleeding, she tore a piece of her saree and wrapped it around his finger. On the day of the festival, sisters prepare a thali with the Rakhi, roli (sacred red thread), rice grains, sweets, and a diya (lamp). They perform an aarti, apply a tilak to their brothers' foreheads, and tie the rakhi. Brothers, in turn, promise to protect their sisters and offer them gifts or money as a token of their love. The festival of Rakhi symbolises the love, affection, and bond between brothers and sisters and promotes the values of protection, care, and respect; families get together to exchange gifts, spend quality time and eat special and yummy delicacies. The festival falls on the last day of the Hindu month of Shraavan, which is a full moon day, according to This year, the festival will be celebrated on Saturday, August 9, 2025, with the auspicious time for tying the rakhi from 5:47 AM to 1:24 PM on the same day. It is celebrated differently around the country. In West Bengal, for example, it is referred to as 'Jhulan Purnima', and Lord Krishna and Radha are worshipped. People in Maharashtra's Koli community celebrate Raksha Bandhan alongside Narali Pournima (coconut day celebration).
