Israel launches Operation Rising Lion against Iran: ‘Hit at heart of ballistic missile programme,' says Netanyahu; watch

Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu
on Friday said Israel launched a 'targeted military operation' against Iran, striking 'at the heart' of Tehran's ballistic missile programme. The Israeli PM said the attack was to roll back the threat to Israel's "very survival".
Netanyahu said Israel's attack on Iran would "continue for as many days as it takes" after Israel announced it had carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites.
"This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this threat," Netanyahu said in a video statement, naming the operation "Rising Lion", reported news agency AFP.
"We struck at the heart of Iran's nuclear enrichment programme.
We targeted Iran's main enrichment facility at Natanz... We also struck at the heart of Iran's ballistic missile programme," he said, adding that Israel had also hit Iranian nuclear scientists "working on the Iranian bomb," he said.
Netanyahu said the military operation would continue against Iran "for as many days as necessary" to eliminate the threat.
"This military operation aims to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel's very survival.

This operation will continue for as many days as necessary to eliminate that threat. For decades, the tyrants in Tehran have openly and brazenly called for the destruction of Israel," he said.
Israeli PM claimed that Iran has produced "enough highly enriched uranium for nine atomic bombs" and that it could produce "a nuclear weapon in a very short time".
"They have backed up their genocidal rhetoric with a program to develop nuclear weapons.
In recent years, Iran has produced enough highly enriched uranium for nine atomic bombs - nine. In recent months, Iran has taken steps it had never taken before - steps toward weaponising that enriched uranium. If not stopped, Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in a very short time. It could be within a year. It could even be within a few months - less than a year.
This poses a clear and present danger to Israel's very existence.
Eighty years ago, the Jewish people were the victims of a Holocaust perpetrated by the Nazi regime,' Netanyahu said in an address shortly after the "Operation Rising Lion".
The attack comes hours after Iran announced that it has built and plans to activate a third nuclear enrichment facility, escalating tensions with the United Nations just after the UN's atomic watchdog censured the country for failing to meet its nonproliferation commitments aimed at preventing the development of nuclear weapons.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has no choice but to respond to this political resolution," the Iranian Foreign Ministry and Atomic Energy Organisation said in a joint statement.
The timing also coincides with the efforts of the United States to actively lead negotiations with Tehran aimed at reaching a deal to restrict Iran's capacity to develop nuclear weapons.
The Israeli strike followed months of friction between US President Donald Trump and Netanyahu over how best to confront Iran.
Netanyahu has consistently pushed for military action as a way to thwart Iran's nuclear ambitions.
On Thursday, Trump reiterated his opposition to an Israeli attack, warning that such a move could derail diplomatic efforts. "I think it would blow it," he said. Still, he acknowledged the complexity of the situation, adding, "It might help it actually, but it could also blow it."
Earlier, Trump had dismissed an Israeli plan to launch a strike against Iran, making it clear that he wanted time to pursue a negotiated settlement with Tehran.
Just two weeks ago, he said he had cautioned Netanyahu against attacking while talks were under way.
However, those negotiations have stalled in recent weeks, and it remains uncertain how much effort Trump made to prevent this latest escalation.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday said that the strikes by Israel were "unilateral" and that US' priority is now to protect the American forces in the region.
Rubio said that Israel said that the strikes were done in the spirit of self-defence.
He said that Iran must not harm US interests or personnel.
In a statement, Rubio said, "Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for its self-defense. President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners.
Let me be clear: Iran should not target US interests or personnel."

Uttar Pradesh blocks two Urs events citing law & order concerns
Representative image (ANI) AYODHYA : Local authorities in Ayodhya and Barabanki of BJP-governed UP have refused to allow two annual Urs ceremonies, citing concerns over potential breach of peace and law-and-order problems. The ceremonies have been held for years and the permission for the one in Ayodhya was denied following a complaint from VHP activists. The Ayodhya gathering has been organised at the shrine of Dada Miya in Khanpur Masodha area. The other relates to the Urs of Syed Shakeel Baba and has been held in Phoolpur area of Barabanki for the past 75 years. The VHP complaint claimed the Ayodhya gathering was being organised in the name of "Ghazi Baba" (a reference to Syed Salar Masood of Bahraich) instead of Dada Miya Urs. Salar Masood is believed to be the nephew of Mahmud of Ghazni and served as his military commander. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath recently declared that no event celebrating foreign aggressors should be allowed in the state. The permission granted under the name of "Urs Dada Miya" has been revoked as it was found that it was being organised under the name of Ghazi Baba, said Ayodhya circle officer Ashutosh Tiwari. For the Barabanki event, clearance was denied due to concerns of potential unrest. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Some disputes have emerged that may lead to communal tension and unrest. Before this, the state had denied permission for Sambhal's Neja Mela, also held in the memory of Salar Masood. In Gorakhpur, the iconic Bale Miyan fair held in memory of Salar Masood-locally called Bale Miyan- was scheduled to begin on May 18 but the district administration did not grant security clearance, effectively stalling the event.

China says ‘deeply concerned' over Israel's strikes on Iran
China said Friday it was "deeply concerned" over Israeli strikes on Iran — including nuclear and military sites — condemning "violations" of the country's sovereignty and offering to help ease tensions. "The Chinese side... is deeply worried about the severe consequences that such actions might bring," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said. "The Chinese side calls on relevant parties to take actions that promote regional peace and stability and to avoid further escalation of tensions," Mr Lin said. Israel pounded Iran in a series of air raids on Friday, striking 100 targets and killing the armed forces' chief of staff, the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards and top nuclear scientists. Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned Israel it faced a "bitter and painful" fate over the attacks. The Israeli military said later that Iran launched 100 drones towards Israel in response and that its air defences were intercepting them outside Israeli territory. China enjoys close ties with Iran, being its largest commercial partner and the main buyer of its oil with Tehran still under crushing U.S. sanctions. On Friday (June 13, 2025), Mr Lin said Beijing "opposes violations of Iran's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity." "We oppose escalating tensions and expanding conflicts," he said, adding: "The sudden escalation of the regional situation does not serve the interests of any party." "The Chinese side is willing to play a constructive role in easing the situation," Mr Lin added.

2 years on, garbage waiver charges on papers only in Panchkula
1 2 3 Panchkula: Residents have voiced strong concerns over the municipal corporation's failure to refund or adjust garbage collection charges that were officially waived by the Haryana government for the financial years 2023–24 and 2024–25. Despite the waiver, many residents had already paid the garbage tax as part of their property tax bills for 2024–25, expecting the excess amount to be adjusted in 2025–26 bills. However, to their disappointment, no such adjustment was made, and fresh bills were issued with new garbage tax charges included. The waiver for 2023–24 had been formally approved by the MC, and a second waiver for 2024–25 was announced ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, residents allege that the latter announcement remained only on paper, with no practical implementation. In a letter addressed to the authorities, the Citizens' Welfare Association (CWA), Panchkula, expressed frustration over the situation, stating that residents are being forced to pay the garbage collection fee again, while the previously paid amount remains unadjusted. The association highlighted that many residents had approached the MC and local representatives seeking clarity and resolution. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo According to residents, the MC has informed them that refunds or adjustments will only be considered after the new dues are paid. This policy has sparked widespread anger and confusion. CWA President SK Nayar criticised the approach, stating, "Forcing citizens to pay twice and then making them apply separately for refunds is unjust and disrespectful to honest taxpayers." Deepak Arora, a resident of Sector 12A, shared a similar experience, saying he was instructed to pay the new charges first and then apply for a refund. The CWA also pointed out that during his tenure, former speaker and MLA Gian Chand Gupta had publicly declared free door-to-door garbage collection in his official booklet, which has further fuelled residents' frustration. Residents are now urging the chief minister, the urban local bodies department, and the municipal commissioner to take immediate action. They are demanding that the excess charges be refunded without delay and that the practice of collecting advance garbage fees be halted until a transparent and citizen-friendly system is put in place.
