Adams planning for next season with relegated Morecambe
Morecambe boss Derek Adams says he expects to be in the dugout next season as the club attempt to bounce back after relegation to the National League.The Shrimps' 18-year stay in the Football League came to an end as defeat by Salford City on Easter Monday brought a second relegation in three seasons.Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire, Adams admitted a difficult season off the pitch, with the club battling an uncertain financial future, had taken its toll.But the 49-year-old Scot insisted he remains committed to the club and confirmed he is already making plans for life in the fifth tier.Asked directly whether he would remain at the club next season, Adams said: "Yes. I'm under contract so I'll be here next season and players are under contract as well. "We have to find out what the budget is for next season. It didn't matter what division we were in, we still have to have a budget and we will have to wait what that is."But we are going to have to be in the play-off places next season, there is no doubt about it. We understand how competitive a league it is but for us to go down a division, that has to be our ultimate aim."Morecambe have been up for sale since September 2022 and face an uncertain future outside of the EFL.Adams hopes to find out about next season's budget at a board meeting next week before the final game of the season against Harrogate.The Shrimps also face a difficult penultimate match of the season at promotion-chasing Chesterfield on Saturday with Adams insisting they are keen to go down fighting."To lose 15 games 1-0 shows how close we were but we haven't been good enough to win those games," he said. "But we want to go to Chesterfield and put on a performance."

The 28-year-old is now the proud owner of 750 stroopwafels, a local dough and syrup based cookie-like delicacy. His tasty triumph came at the seventh yesterday, one of only four holes where the prize was on offer to mark the 105th KLM Open. Afterwards, he said: "After three aces during practice rounds it was good to get one in a tournament. "I got onto the tee and given the toughness of the seventh hole, I thought 'a three here would be good', especially after a birdie the hole before. "Stroopwafels is just what I'm needing, so I will have them sent to my mum and dad. We'll have our own stroopwafel party," the Glasgow golfer joked. He wasn't the only representative of Scotland with something to celebrate, as one of his countrymen topped the table. Adam, the 2023 Scottish Amateur champion, birdied the last to force a play-off with Irishman John Doyle as the pair tied on 17 under par after 72 holes. 'It feels awesome,' said Adam. 'It was a long day out there starting out with the lead and having to battle away throughout the day. It is definitely really satisfying now that I've won it. 'I started checking the scores midway through the final round and I knew playing 14 what John had posted and I needed to pick up two shots on the way in. When I was standing on the last tee, I knew I needed to birdie it. 'In the play-off, I was fortunate that I was fresh off 18 and still in the zone, so I was quietly confident.' Connor Syme wins first DP World Tour title with KLM Open
The 29-year-old went into Sunday's final round with a two-shot lead over playing partner Joakim Lagergren and maintained the same advantage despite a brilliant closing eagle from the Swede. Syme finished 11 under, shooting a one-under-par 70 on Sunday and making only one bogey in his final 38 holes. He said: 'Unbelievable, it was so, so difficult the last few days. 'I just felt so much better this week, I felt really ready to do it, and I'm so, so happy I managed to do it.' Wife Alanis flew out to Amsterdam to surprise Syme on the final green, where he also enjoyed champagne-drenched celebrations with compatriot Ewen Ferguson – who had a hole in one earlier in the day to help him finish in a tie for fourth – and England's Richard Mansell.
