Richard Gere and Michelle Rodriguez cast in plane thriller Left Seat
Richard Gere and Michelle Rodriguez have been cast in a new plane survival thriller.
The 'Pretty Woman' actor and 'Fast and Furious' franchise star will join forces on upcoming blockbuster 'Left Seat' from 'Bleed For This' director Ben Younger.
As reported by Deadline, Rodriguez will play a "travelling pharmaceutical rep" who is "forced to take control of a small charter plane after the pilot falls unconscious mid-flight".
The synopsis continues: "She must rely on the help of a stranger (Gere) over the radio, to navigate through deadly storms and land the aircraft before the fuel runs out.'
Younger will direct from David M. Crabtree's screenplay, and he is also making script revisions.
Longtime Mandalay President Jason Michael Berman is serving as producer under his new A/Vantage Pictures banner.
He said in a statement: "I am thrilled to be bringing David M. Crabtree's brilliant screenplay to life, which is a visceral cinematic experience that explores important themes of the human experience with emotional depth."
He pointed to the importance of having a "real life" pilot at the helm of the movie, as well as two "extraordinarily talented actors" on the bill.
He added: "To have Ben Younger directing and writing on the movie will create the most authentic experience possible for our audience, as Ben is a pilot in real life, as well as a brilliant filmmaker and screenwriter who creates movies with incredible tension, along with heart.
"And finally, to be working with the extraordinarily talented actors Michelle Rodriguez and Richard Gere to bring 'Left Seat' to the screen is a dream come true.'
Gere can be seen in Paramount+ series 'The Agency' - which is a remake of French series 'Le Bureau des Legendes, and has been renewed for a second season.
In 2024, he also appeared with Uma Thurman and Jacob Elordi in 'Oh, Canadda', while Rodriguez - known for her roles in the lieks of 'Resident Evil' and 'Machete' - will appear in 'Fast X: Part 2' next year.
Despite her successful career - which includes the 'Avatar' franchise - Rodriguez still sees herself as an outlier in Hollywood.
She recently told PEOPLE magazine: "I think, ultimately, at the end of the day, it's like being a salmon swimming upstream, and Hollywood always feels like the stream."
Rodriguez is determined to remain true to herself in the film business.
She explained: "You don't want to be pushed around or [let] anybody to tell [you that you] can't get to the other side of the river.
"I'm going to get there one way or another. I don't care which way everybody else is going.
"That's the rebellion. All it is is just sticking to who you are."

A-ha singer Morten Harket diagnosed with Parkinson's
A-ha singer Morten Harket has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The 65-year-old star - who is the frontman and a founding member of the 'Take On Me' hitmakers - has accepted the diagnosis as he battles the degenerative condition, having originally planned to keep it "strictly private". The band announced in a statement: "This isn't the sort of news anyone wants to deliver to the world, but here it is: Morten has Parkinson's disease.' In his own statement on the group's official website, Morten said: "I've got no problem accepting the diagnosis. "With time I've taken to heart my 94-year-old father's attitude to the way the organism gradually surrenders: 'I use whatever works.' " Although part of Morten was willing to open up publicly about the illness, he was also concerned about his own "need for peace and quiet to work". He explained: 'Part of me wanted to reveal it. Like I said, acknowledging the diagnosis wasn't a problem for me; it's my need for peace and quiet to work that has been stopping me. "I'm trying the best I can to prevent my entire system from going into decline." The singer noted he's trying to find a balance between his medication and the "side effects", as well as still trying to live his life. He added: "It's a difficult balancing act between taking the medication and managing its side effects. "There's so much to weigh up when you're emulating the masterful way the body handles every complex movement, or social matters and invitations, or day-to-day life in general.' Meanwhile, he acknowledged that his future work with the band is unclear, as he waits to find out the lasting impact of Parkinson's on his voice. Asked if he can sing "at all", he told the group's website: 'I don't really know. I don't feel like singing, and for me that's a sign. "I'm broadminded in terms of what I think works; I don't expect to be able to achieve full technical control. "The question is whether I can express myself with my voice. As things stand now, that's out of the question. "But I don't know whether I'll be able to manage it at some point in the future.'

Ana De Armas gives exciting update on Deeper production with Tom Cruise
Ana De Armas is currently "training" for 'Deeper'. The 37-year-old actress is working with 'Mission: Impossible' legend Tom Cruise on Doug Liman's supernatural thriller following an astronaut who discovers a terrible force while diving into a previously unexplored trench. Asked for an update on the project, De Armas told Deadline: "Training, just training, getting ready for what's to come!" She didn't offer any further details on the movie, but De Arms did open up on some of the lessons she'll be taking forward from her 'John Wick' spinoff 'Ballerina'. She stars as ballerina-assassin Eve Macarro in the action blockbuster, and the role has taught her to "take risks". She said: 'I think it's important to keep looking for truth, answers… To keep pushing until you find your truth no matter what. 'So, take risks and get to the bottom of it.' Meanwhile De Armas - who has been inspired by the likes of Uma Thurman - reacted to the idea she can become a similar role model for the next generation of women in film. She added: "It's beautiful, if that's the effect of my work, whether it's this movie or any other roles. It doesn't get better than that! "I'm very happy, I'm proud that that would be my contribution to younger generations. "I think this character actually has all those characteristics. It's really cool! I hope that's what it does." De Armas is preparing to work with 62-year-old Hollywood icon Cruise on 'Deeper', and she was delighted to see him supporting 'Ballerina' so publicly on his own red carpets. She told Variety: 'You know what, he supports every movie. He really wants the industry and cinema to do well and [wants] people going to the theaters. "We're working together, so he got to see 'Ballerina' and he actually really liked it. He loved the 'John Wicks.' "It is very special that someone like him is supporting ['Ballerina']. It is really special in general to have other actors and people supporting each other. We can do well all together.' She recently revealing the process working on the upcoming thriller has been "amazing" and she's doing "crazy training". She told WWD: "Obviously, everyone knows I'm working with Tom Cruise. We're working on something with Doug Liman and ['Mission: Impossible' director] Christopher McQuarrie, and those guys are unbelievable at everything they do. "And they're so lovely and a great team, and the process we're having is amazing. And of course I'm doing crazy training, as you do when you're working with Tom. "It's another level that just keeps setting the bar higher and higher. But it's so much fun. And we're not only working on that thing that we're training for, but also a couple other things too. We just got excited."

Vin Diesel has claims dismissed in sexual abuse lawsuit
The Fast & Furious actor still faces allegations of sexual battery and wrongful termination brought by a former assistant. Asta Jonasson sued Diesel in 2023, alleging he had pinned her against a wall in a hotel suite and performed a sex act in front of her. The alleged incident occurred in 2010, which would ordinarily put it beyond the statute of limitations but in 2023 the Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act revived certain expired claims of sexual assault dating back to 2009.
