Cheaper Fire Stick rival released in the UK TODAY with free TV channel you can't get anywhere else
A CHEAPER Fire Stick rival has been released in the UK today with a free TV channel that you can't get anywhere else.
The fresh streaming sticks provide access to the biggest apps around, as well as some hidden gems packed with channels to watch instantly.
What is it called?
The Roku Streaming Stick and Roku Streaming Stick Plus replace the existing Roku Express and Roku Express 4K gadgets, promising "more features at the same affordable price points".
Cheapest of the bunch is the Roku Streaming Stick at £29.99 / $29.99, costing less than Amazon 's equivalent, the Fire TV Stick HD which currently retails for £39.99 / $34.99.
This entry-level HD model has some key changes, such as improved Wi-Fi connectivity so you're less likely to have buffering issues that interrupt your favourite shows.
And for the first time at this price point for Roku you'll get a voice-enabled remote control too so you can easily find content faster, as well as change the volume and power on the TV.
For those who want the best picture quality, the Roku Streaming Stick Plus brings you 4K and vivid HDR colour.
It costs £10 / $10 more, totalling £39.99 / $39.99.
The streaming gadget giant also claims that its sticks are among the most compact around, coming in at 35 per cent smaller than rivals "without compromising performance or speed".
Both devices are powered directly by the TV so you will have less annoying cables hanging around too.
Because unlike Amazon's dongles, which require plugging into the mains, the Roku Streaming Stick and Streaming Stick Plus get all the juice they need from the TV.
What is the free channel?
Both Amazon and Roku sticks offer instant access to a swathe of apps such as Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+ and BBC iPlayer, but the Roku has one major advantage.
Roku releases brand new way to access 24/7 free streaming channels – it's here just in time for summer break
Roku has its own offering called The Roku Channel, which includes a number of originals and "premium entertainment".
The Roku channel features movies, shows, entertainment and content for kids.
Such as Ronin, Dracula, Swimming with Sharks and animations like Super Mario Odyssey and 100% Wolf.
It also includes Roku Originals like The Next Black Millionaire, The Charlie Puth Show, Die Hart and The Real Bros of Simi Valley.
You can buy both sticks from today at Amazon and in-store at Asda.

Trump rejected invitation to Bezos wedding
Donald Trump rejected an invitation to Jeff Bezos's star-studded Venetian wedding. Mr Bezos, the tech billionaire, was reportedly trying to cosy up to the US president, in what could be seen as an attempt to fill the position of 'First Buddy' vacated by Elon Musk. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that the 61 year-old, who is preparing for his lavish three-day wedding in Venice, had spoken twice to Mr Trump in the last few weeks. As part of his charm offensive, Mr Bezos extended an invitation to his upcoming nuptials with Lauren Sanchez, the journalist. White House officials confirmed to the WSJ that the invitation had been offered. Mr Trump was not expected to attend the Venice ceremony owing to scheduling conflicts, however. Mr Trump's daughter Ivanka, a friend of Ms Sanchez' is expected to attend, along with her husband, Jared Kushner. Donald Jr, the president's eldest son, is also going. In 2019, Mr Trump mocked Mr Bezos as 'Jeff Bozo' in a dig at the Washington Post, which the billionaire owned. However, the newspaper did not support Kamala Harris in last year's presidential election, breaking a liberal tradition going back decades. In February, the Post refused to run an advert attacking the administration that asked whether Donald Trump or Elon Musk was running the country. Earlier this year, Mr Bezos abandoned plans to display how much Mr Trump's proposed tariffs were costing Amazon customers on each transaction following a direct appeal from the president. Mr Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the world's richest men, appears to be trying to exploit Mr Trump's spectacular falling out with Mr Musk, which started at the end of last month. Dave Limp, chief executive of Mr Bezos's space company Blue Origin, has also held talks with Susie Wiles, the White House Chief of Staff, the WSJ reported. There are powerful business reasons for Bezos's approach, notably the possibility of government contracts for Blue Origin. Until now, Elon Musk's SpaceX has dominated the market, spectacularly outstripping Blue Origin in the race to become Nasa's main contractor since the US stopped using the Russians to ferry missions to the International Space Station.

Lewis Hamilton says Brad Pitt's character in F1 film has echoes of James Hunt
Lewis Hamilton has revealed Brad Pitt's character in the new Formula One blockbuster was based on James Hunt. F1: The Movie, of which seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is an executive producer, was released this week. Advertisement Pitt, 61, plays the role of veteran driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to the grid after a long absence, with fictional team APX GP. Hunt, the 1976 world champion, was famed for his charisma and maverick approach to motor racing. James Hunt was known for his maverick style (PA Archive) Speaking ahead of this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix, Hamilton said: 'Firstly, I didn't write it. The writer, Ehren (Kruger), I am sure he was looking at people like James Hunt. 'He wanted a really cool character and he was looking at the characters from back in the (Ayrton) Senna days, so a combination of those drivers and I would say the James Hunt vibe. Advertisement 'I don't know if that is what he ultimately chose, but that is the character I feel resembles very closely to him (Hayes) – a very cool, calm, good-looking cat and an elder statesmen within the team.' Pitt's rookie team-mate Joshua Pearce is played by British actor Damson Idris. Filming took place across multiple races over the last two seasons, and F1 chiefs hope the movie will follow the popularity of Netflix's Drive To Survive series in cracking America. Brad Pitt, Joseph Kosinski, Lewis Hamilton and Kerry Condon (Ian West/PA) The film premiered in New York last Monday and Hamilton was in Times Square along with the majority of the grid's drivers and cast. He continued: 'When you are reading the script it is hard to see how it will play out, but then to be at the premiere in the middle of Times Square and having Brad up on the screen with a Formula One car and the F1 logo, I was like, 'holy crap, this is absolutely insane'. Advertisement 'That experience was great and for me a moment I will never forget. 'I had seen the film so many times on my laptop, watching every different section for so long and making comments as we edited and improved it, and I was like, 'I have seen it already so I am going to leave and go to dinner', but I decided to stay and to see everyone's reaction after it finished was one of the coolest things and really special.'
