
GAC achieves major digital milestone with IRU TIR integration

The General Authority of Customs has announced the successful implementation of a direct electronic integration between its 'AL-Nadeeb' Customs Clearance System and the Digital TIR Carnet Service of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), in coordination with Qatar Chamber as the TIR National Association. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the Authority's ongoing efforts to modernize customs operations and enhance digital integration with international entities.
This electronic integration enables the instant and secure exchange of data related to road shipments governed by the International Road Transport (TIR) Convention.
It represents a qualitative leap in supporting customs clearance operations associated with international road transport and serves as an innovative strategic step within the Authority's plans for digitizing customs procedures and implementing risk management criteria post-goods arrival.
The General Authority of Customs is one of the first customs administrations in the Middle East to successfully implement direct integration with the International Road Transport Organization (IRU).
This achievement demonstrates the Authority's commitment to adopting innovative technological solutions that enhance the efficiency and reliability of customs operations and facilitate international trade.
The Digital TIR Carnet Service aims to achieve higher levels of efficiency and accuracy in tracking shipments covered by the international TIR system guarantee across land border crossings.
This facilitates accelerated procedures and smoother information flow between customs ports and the Authority's global partners, while also enhancing the fluidity of cross-border trade movements.
This service will establish a unified and reliable communication channel for real-time customs data exchange between the General Authority of Customs and the International Road Transport Organization (IRU). ICC Qatar launches Environment & Energy Commission to drive private sector leadership on sustainability
DOHA: The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Qatar, in collaboration with the Al-Attiyah Foundation, has launched the ICC Qatar Environment & Energy Commission – a landmark initiative aimed at galvanising the private sector's role in advancing Qatar's sustainable energy and climate goals. The Commission, unveiled during a high-level event in Doha on Wednesday, will serve as the country's premier platform for private-sector engagement on climate policy, environmental stewardship, and the energy transition. Aligned with global frameworks such as the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Commission's establishment marks a significant step in reinforcing commitment to sustainability and economic diversification under the Qatar National Vision 2030. The roadmap unveiled at the event outlines a phased implementation strategy, including the formation of dedicated working groups focused on low-carbon energy transition, sustainable water and desalination, and emissions mitigation through tools such as carbon markets and carbon capture. The Commission will also engage closely with national entities such as the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Kahramaa, and QatarEnergy, while fostering strategic alliances with international partners including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and the UN Global Compact. Sheikha Tamader Al Thani, Secretary General, ICC Qatar highlighted: 'The establishment of the ICC Qatar Environment & Energy Commission represents a significant step in advancing our commitment to sustainability as a key driver of long-term economic resilience and private sector leadership. This Commission provides a dedicated platform for constructive dialogue, policy advocacy, and actionable collaboration between business, government, and global institutions.' QC receives Tanzanian delegation representing contracting sector
Tribune News Network Doha Mohammed bin Mahdi Al-Ahbabi, Member of the Board of Directors of Qatar Chamber, received on Wednesday at the Chamber's headquarters a trade delegation from Tanzania. The delegation included a number of companies operating in the construction, contracting, real estate, and infrastructure sectors, and was headed by Engineer Peter Sikalumba, Chief Engineer at the Ministry of Works inTanzania. During the meeting, discussions were held on enhancing trade and economic cooperation between Qatar and Tanzania in the construction sector. Qatari business owners were invited to take part in key projects in Tanzania. The meeting also explored the main sectors where the private sectors of both countries could collaborate. Al-Ahbabi praised the strong Qatari-Tanzanian relations, particularly in economic and investment fields. He pointed out the growing interest among Qatari businesspeople in exploring available opportunities in Tanzania and entering into joint ventures with Tanzanian companies to leverage the country's strategic assets. He also reaffirmed Qatar Chamber's full readiness to cooperate with Tanzanian companies interested in working with the Qatari private sector, and to coordinate with the relevant trade authorities in Tanzania to explore ways to boost bilateral trade. Al-Ahbabi noted that the Chamber has previously received several trade delegations from Tanzania representing various sectors and that ongoing communication exists with the Tanzanian private sector. The delegation presented several major infrastructure projects in Tanzania and invited Qatari companies to participate in these projects—either in partnership with the public sector or through forming alliances with Tanzanian firms. They also highlighted the incentives their country offers to attract foreign investments.
