AUS Engineering College secures renewed accreditation from CAA
Role of CAA in accreditation
The CAA at MOHESR is responsible for licensing higher education institutions and evaluating their academic programmes for accreditation. It works with both international and local authorities to safeguard academic standards and enhance the learning experience for students in higher education institutions.
Accredited programmes
The seven programmes that received renewed accreditation are the bachelor of science degrees in chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, and mechanical engineering.
International recognition through ABET accreditation
In addition to this national recognition, CEN's commitment to international quality standards is evident through renewed accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in August 2024, covering the same seven undergraduate programmes, valid until September 30, 2030.

In the QS World University Rankings 2024, AUS is ranked among the top five universities in the UAE and the top 450 globally for chemical engineering, number one in the UAE and among the top 200 globally for civil and structural engineering, among the top 10 in the UAE and top 450 globally for computer science and information systems, among the top five in the UAE and top 300 globally for the electrical and electronic engineering category, and among the top three in the UAE and in the top 300 globally in the category of mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing engineering.

CAA, IATA hold workshop on sustainable aviation emissions in Oman
Muscat – In collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Wednesday hosted a workshop focused on the implementation of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) in the Sultanate of Oman. Titled 'Understanding and Implementing the Requirements of CORSIA in the Sultanate of Oman,' the workshop aimed to raise awareness among key stakeholders about the global framework and its potential to deliver both economic and environmental benefits for the country. CORSIA, a programme under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is designed to cap carbon dioxide emissions from international flights at 2020 levels by requiring airlines to offset any increase in emissions beyond that baseline. The workshop highlighted the alignment of CORSIA with international climate agreements, particularly the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Participants were briefed on compliance requirements and the broader implications of CORSIA on the global carbon market and sustainable development initiatives. Key sessions focused on identifying and developing eligible projects under the CORSIA framework, with case studies from the Global Carbon Council and examples of Omani initiatives. These discussions explored ways to integrate local offsetting efforts with international mechanisms, encouraging collaboration among regulators, airlines, and project developers. The event also served as a platform to explore opportunities to expand Oman's participation in the global carbon market through aviation-related sustainability initiatives. It aimed to equip stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to develop, endorse, and implement CORSIA-compliant projects that align with the country's climate and development goals. The outcomes of the workshop are expected to support the creation of new carbon offset projects in Oman, foster cross-sector cooperation, and strengthen the nation's environmental credentials in line with best global practices.

UAE Launches Digital System to Verify Academic Qualifications for Employment
The UAE has unveiled a new digital system to verify academic qualifications, aiming to streamline employment procedures and enhance labour market integrity. Launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR), the initiative marks a significant step in the country's push toward a fully integrated digital employment ecosystem. The Academic Qualification Verification Project allows private sector employers to verify academic credentials — whether issued locally or abroad — through MoHRE's digital platforms and service centres. The system supports skill levels 1 to 4 under the National Qualifications Framework and will eventually include UAE-issued degrees at a later stage. Officials say the project supports the UAE's broader digital transformation goals, reducing bureaucracy and improving service delivery across sectors. It also ensures the authenticity of qualifications, curbing fraudulent practices and enabling faster, more reliable hiring processes. Khalil Al Khoori, Undersecretary for Labour Market and Emiratisation Operations at MoHRE, said the system reinforces the UAE's efforts to attract global talent and boost its competitive edge in the employment sector. He noted that embedding the verification process within work permit procedures strengthens regulatory oversight and service efficiency. Dr. Mohammad Al Mualla, Undersecretary of MoHESR, emphasized that the initiative aligns academic output with labour market needs, supporting the national strategy to build a knowledge-based economy. He added that the service contributes to the Zero Government Bureaucracy programme by delivering fast, customer-centric solutions. By digitising verification, the project reduces paperwork, enables unified processing with a one-time fee, and promotes stronger collaboration between government and private sector entities — all while enhancing the UAE's appeal as a global investment and employment hub.
