Meghalaya ex-CM Sangma calls for CCTV installation after tourist death
Shillong: Leader of the Opposition,
Mukul Sangma
, has asked Meghalaya govt to take note of the recent murder of a Madhya Pradesh tourist, whose wife is still missing, and called for installation of more CCTVs at vantage entry points to the state.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said the couple had chosen Meghalaya as it is the safest tourist destination. "I condole the unfortunate loss of life of this family…," he said.
The former chief minister maintained there was no time to play politics over the incident and it should be a wake-up call for the govt and the people of the state.
"The govt must take cognizance of this. It may not be an act of the member belonging to any militant outfit but it can be because of what is already prevailing in the state of Meghalaya, so wake up, the citizens must wake up, all of us must wake up," he said.
The veteran public leader also stressed the need to implement the Meghalaya Residents, Safety and Security Act, 2016, and said installation of CCTVs has been mandated by the law.

Bangladeshi journalist accuses CA Md Yunus of lighting sparks of civil war
Dhaka, June 9 (UNI) Senior Bangladeshi journalist Masood Kamal has slammed the Mohammed Yunus government, accusing it of dividing the country and lighting sparks of civil war with moves such as holding elections in April 2026 despite its unfeasibility. According to the Awami League outlet, the Daily Republic, Kamal also flayed Yunus for facilitating the Rakhine corridor which has been repeatedly opposed by various groups, and the handover of the Chattogram Port to a foreign company. Upon analysing the 84-year-old Chief Advisor's speech, Kamal said that Yunus has exacerbated the division among his countrymen by delivering his address to the nation on Friday. Criticising his corridor and port policy, Kamal said Yunus also used 'dangerous words' to ask the people to resist those who do not support his plan. 'He has provoked the people against the army, the BNP, and all but his 4-5 small parties, like Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh and the King's party, Jatiya Nagorik Party. 'You have triggered a war. Previously, your advisor Mahfuj Alam also warned about waging a civil war. Have you (Yunus) been put at the helm to wage a civil war?' Alleging that the CA's decisions were influenced by parties like the NCP and the Jamaat e Islami, he bashed the NCP for placing demands on the country's Election Commission, stating that even though their official political registration is yet to be completed, they are calling for the EC's resignation, saying that Yunus government has given them the confidence to do whatever they want. He also blasted the EC, stating that it doesn't have a backbone and will comply with whenever demands the NCP places. 'The EC has said that the Jamaat will get back its party symbol. How did the EC decide it in principle? Did they add scale to the list of symbols? 'The NCP will raise the demand for reconstituting the EC before the elections. And Yunus will evidently agree to the demand.' Masood Kamal said that all parties, including the BNP, have rejected Yunus' election timeframe (only ones in favour are the NCP and Jamaat). Moreover, holding the election in April is not practically possible due to the month-long Ramadan, Eid, and SSC and HSC exams. 'You have no idea about the education sector. It is not a big deal to you. A generation is getting detached from studies. But the government does not bother. The students who passed HSC last year could not even start their university classes, though almost one year has already passed. 'You are busy with your port and humanitarian corridor. Do not do politics too much. You are not a politician and have not been a good performer yet.' UNI ANV SSP

Meghalaya Murder: Sonam Shared Live Location With Lover Raj During Entire Honeymoon Trip
Last Updated: Sonam reportedly shared her live location regularly with Raj, who was in Madhya Pradesh Meghalaya Murder Case: In a chilling turn in the mysterious death of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, investigators probing the murder case revealed that Sonam, who went missing, was in constant touch with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, throughout the journey. Sonam reportedly shared her live location regularly with Raj, who was in Madhya Pradesh, the police said as reported by Times of India, adding that Raj coordinated with three hired killers to track Sonam and her husband. The conspiracy began just days after the wedding, with the group tailing the newlyweds throughout their Northeast trip. As per the report, Sonam had insisted for a sudden pilgrimage to the Kamakhya Temple in Assam during their honeymoon trip. Investigators believe that this was a deliberate tactic to help the killers pinpoint the couple's location and movements. Sonam had reportedly booked the Meghalaya trip herself without informing Raja's family and did not arrange return tickets, police sources said. She also allegedly pressured Raja to wear over Rs 10 lakh worth of gold jewelry, including a chain and ring that were later found missing from his body, raising the suspicion that the loot was part of the murder plot. Police also uncovered extensive communication between Sonam and Raj Kushwaha, said to be her alleged lover, via encrypted apps both before and during the honeymoon. Their call records indicated meticulous planning, while Raja's smartwatch and phone GPS data plotted his location near Wei Sawdong Falls – the same area where the killers' devices were also tracked. Police say this strongly suggested coordination, with Sonam acting as the link through Raja. The murder took a sensational turn when Raghuvanshi's wife, Sonam, was held by Meghalaya Police along with her three alleged aides, Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Raj Singh Kushwaha (20). The fresh revelations have pointed to a well-orchestrated conspiracy behind Raja's murder. Raj Kushwaha, who was allegedly in a relationship with Sonam Raghuvanshi, has been identified as the mastermind behind Raja's murder, according to sources. Sonam was sent to 72-hour police remand by a local UP court while three others were sent to the transit custody of the Meghalaya police for seven days by Indore court.

UP: Gurugram MNC employee killed by father, brother over live-in relationship
The Muzaffarnagar police have arrested the father and brother of a female executive working with an e-commerce firm for killing her over a live-in relationship with a man, police said. The deceased, Saraswati Maliyan, 23, was strangled and later set on fire by her father and brother, Times of India reported. Both accused – Rajveer Singh, 55, and Sumit Singh, 24 – confessed to the murder, police said. 'Rajveer admitted to killing his daughter out of anger over her relationship. The third accused, Gurdayal Singh, is absconding, and we are conducting raids to arrest him,' Muzaffarnagar SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma told Times of India. Saraswati was working with an e-commerce MNC in Gurgaon, where she handled orders and last-mile delivery. She was in a live-in relationship with Amit, a resident of her village. Her father and brother, in their confession, said that they were opposed to the relationship. Saraswati's charred body was found by the police on June 3 in a jungle in the Katia village, which is under the limits of Muzaffarnagar's Kakrauli police station. A case has been filed under Sections 103 (murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false evidence to screen offender) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The murder took place on the night of May 29-30, with Rajveer and Sumit strangling Saraswati inside their home, an officer investigating the case told the Times of India. The third accused, Gurdayal Singh, who is also Sumit's friend, helped them in carrying the body to a forest, 5 km from the house. The trio then poured petrol over her body and set it ablaze, the officer said. A missing person's report was filed by the family a couple of days later to mislead the police. Saraswati's body was found on June 3 and sent for a post-mortem. 'Once we sent her body for the postmortem, we tried to identify her. The body was completely burned. A silver bracelet on her hand was our only clue. We first took a close photo of it (bracelet) and then started looking for missing women around the village,' Joginder Singh, Station House Officer, Kakrouli, told The Indian Express. He said that during inquiries in the village, the police learned that a woman named Saraswati was missing. When the police searched on Instagram, they were able to match the bracelet on her wrist with the one in the pictures. Police said that Saraswati was forced into a marriage in 2019, but left her husband and returned home after two years, Times of India reported. Another marriage was arranged by her family in 2022, but she returned home after a year, the police said. 'She later began living with a man called Amit in Gurgaon, where both started working with the same e-commerce firm that same year,' police said, adding that Saraswati had continued the relationship despite opposition from her family. The police further said that Saraswati had returned to her village in Muzaffarnagar on May 10 to persuade her family. During questioning about their last conversation, Amit told police that it took place on May 26, wherein she said that this would be her last attempt at convincing her family.
