Lithium battery charging issue causes estimated $125,000 in damages at commercial building in Bellevue
BELLEVUE, Wis. (WFRV) – Over 30 firefighters responded to a fire in Bellevue on Tuesday morning, which was deemed to be caused by a lithium battery charging failure.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department reported that it responded to a report of smoke and flames at a commercial space in Bellevue around 8:53 a.m. Tuesday.

Crews found heavy smoke and fire from a vehicle inside the building. Crews aggressively fought their way inside to extinguish the fire, which had extended into the attic.
Initial responders struggled to access the attic space due to steel sheeting that covered the ceiling. The fire was knocked down and nobody was found inside as it was declared under control at 9:09 a.m.

31 firefighters and six engines, with one ladder truck, responded along with a pair of ambulances. Three command officers and three fire investigators were present.
Officials deemed the cause of the fire to be due to a lithium battery charging failure, and initial estimates report the damage at about $125,000.

(WFRV) – Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis stopped by the Local Five studio Thursday morning to discuss safety for kids and families during the summer season and how the police department is involved with a newly launched city initiative focused on revitalizing and reengaging area neighborhoods. As students begin their summer break, Chief Davis says it's important for parents to be aware of where their kids are and what they are doing. We like to remind parents this time of year, the big thing is just know where your kids are and what they're doing, who they're with. Keep in mind that public spaces like parks get a lot busier this time of year. Everyone wants to be able to enjoy the parks, so kind of think about your behavior in the park and urge your kids to be good stewards of our public spaces. Chief Davis says to just leave those at home and not bring them into public spaces, or kids using them could get into 'some pretty serious trouble.' Along with the summer and warmer weather also brings with it an increase in bicyclist, motorcyclist, and pedestrian traffic. The Chief says that every day drivers need to just be aware of their surroundings and not follow too closely to a motorcyclist or bicyclist as they stop much faster than a car can. Those on the bicycles and motorcycles should keep their heads on a swivel and be aware of their surroundings. Riders of either mode of travel mentioned should also be sure to wear a helmet. As for pedestrians, the Chief asks that they try to make themselves as visible as possible. Chief Davis then talked about the new city initiative, starting in the Western Avenue neighborhood, which is all about focusing on revitalizing and reengaging area neighborhoods This is a whole of city government program to try to really dig deep into neighborhoods where we can improve livability. Two veterans accused of robbing WA Army base had Nazi flags, machine gun, prosecutors say
Investigators say they found military equipment and Nazi flags in the home of two Lacey men arrested this week. (Photo courtesy of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office) An investigation into a two-year-long string of military equipment theft from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, near Tacoma, turned up Nazi memorabilia, white supremacist literature and a cache of weapons in the suspects' home in Lacey, according to charges filed in federal court Wednesday. Federal prosecutors charged Charles Fields and Levi Frakes with robbery, assault and theft of government property for allegedly stealing helmets, body armor and communications equipment from the Pierce County military base late Sunday. Both men 'previously served' in the military, according to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Tacoma. Just after 8 p.m. Sunday, the duo scanned their identification documents as they entered the base in a Toyota 4Runner, according to the charges. About an hour later, someone on the base entered a U.S. Army Ranger operations facility to find two masked men, later identified as Fields and Frakes, court papers say. Investigators believe the men used bolt cutters to get inside. The men later unmasked themselves before attacking the person with a hammer, federal prosecutors allege. The alleged victim was able to get control of the hammer, but surrendered when one of the suspects pulled out a knife. During the fight, one of the intruders dropped a hat with 'FIELDS' handwritten on the inside. The pair reportedly then fled the Ranger compound with around $14,000 in government property. The man who was attacked was hit in the head with the hammer and was bruised and bloodied, according to court documents. He was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center. Surveillance video shows the two men leaving with rucksacks, two of which they dropped while fleeing, according to the complaint. Army criminal investigators obtained a search warrant for a home in Lacey that both men used as an address. Late Monday night, they found 35 weapons, including rifles, pistols and a machine gun, along with silencers, prosecutors allege. Agents also reported seizing military property like night vision devices, flashbangs, smoke grenades and body armor. 'Some of the military items agents recovered are unlawful to possess without unique permission from the (Department of Defense) and some of the items are so restricted that active duty military members are not permitted to have or store them in their personal residences,' special agent Christopher Raguse wrote in the complaint. Each bedroom featured Nazi and white supremacist memorabilia, murals and literature, according to court papers. A photo included in the charging papers shows side-by-side flags in one room emblazoned with a Nazi swastika and SS Bolts referring to the Schutzstaffel police unit in Nazi Germany. Since World War II, neo-Nazis have adopted the symbol, according to the Anti-Defamation League. 'The suspects identified in this case were actively involved in Nazi White Nationalist efforts,' Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders wrote in a Facebook post announcing the arrests. One of the two men agreed to speak with investigators. The complaint doesn't identify whether this was Fields or Frakes. The suspect acknowledged stealing military property from the Ranger compound to sell or trade for about two years, according to the charges. It's unclear if the men had any other plans with the stolen arsenal. Law enforcement booked both men into the Thurston County Jail on separate state criminal allegations. A judge there set bail at $500,000 each. They remained in Thurston County custody Wednesday, said a spokesperson from the U.S. Attorney's Office in western Washington. It's unclear when they will be transferred to federal custody for their first appearance on the charges filed in Tacoma on Wednesday.

Manhunt underway for father accused of murdering his three daughters; former Wisconsin resident

(WFRV) – Three sisters under the age of 10 were found dead in Washington on Monday, and a manhunt is underway for their father, a Wisconsin native. According to the Wenatchee Police Department, officers responded to a civil complaint at 9:45 p.m. on Friday, May 30. The mother of three young girls reported that her daughters were not returned following a scheduled visitation with their father. 'Essentially became a missile': 19-year-old De Pere woman faces 25 charges, $500,000 cash bond for allegedly going 80mph in downtown Fond du Lac The girls—ages 9, 8, and 5—were last seen with their father, identified as 32-year-old Travis Decker of the Wenatchee area. According to WFRV's CBS affiliate in Milwaukee, Decker previously lived in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Officers began searching for Decker and the children immediately. Decker was believed to be living out of a white 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck with Washington license plate D20165C. Local motels in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee were checked without success. The vehicle's information was entered into the local Flock camera database, which showed the truck had traveled west on Highway 2 from Wenatchee on May 30. An AMBER Alert request was initially denied by the Washington State Patrol, but an Endangered Missing Person Alert was issued the next day after police provided additional information. Over the weekend, Wenatchee Police worked with local law enforcement and the FBI to investigate possible locations in Chelan County. By June 2, the search had narrowed to an area between Icicle Road and Chumstick Road near Leavenworth. That same day, an arrest warrant was issued for Decker on three counts of first-degree custodial interference. At approximately 3:45 p.m. Monday, a Chelan County deputy located Decker's vehicle near the Rock Island Campground off Icicle Road. The truck was unoccupied. While searching the area, authorities found the bodies of the three missing girls. According to the criminal complaint, each was found with a plastic bag over their head, and their wrists were zip-tied. Decker was not located. Authorities say that the preliminary examination suggests the likely cause of death for the three children was affixation. A SWAT team and Washington State Patrol's Crime Scene Response Team responded to assist in processing the scene and searching for Decker. As of now, Decker remains at large. He is wanted for three counts of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.
