Working population: How many Indians work for how long?
In 2011, over 36 crore Indians identified themselves as main workers, meaning they had worked for more than six months in the census year. Over 2 crore had worked for less than three months while around 10 crore had worked for 3 to 6 months. Nearly 5.5 crore Indians were unemployed and looking for work.
