Adam Silver responds to NBA Finals digital decals controversy
The decal debate continues.
During Wednesday night's 'NBA Countdown' on ABC, NBA commissioner Adam Silver responded to criticism of the digitally inserted images of the Larry O'Brien Trophy shown on the court during the broadcast of Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
Silver dropped a bombshell when he told viewers that these digital decals have been in use for 10 years.

'People don't realize that they [the on-court decals] went away a decade ago,' Silver said.
There has been over the atmosphere on TV during the NBA Finals, and some have suggested that the league should revive the on-court decals featuring the Finals trophy to make the game feel more special.

But Silver said that will not be happening anytime soon because of previous complaints from players.
'There were claims that…they were slippery.' Silver added. 'So, we're back to adding them virtually.'
While, in theory, the idea of virtual decals is good, it all comes down to the execution. And, at least according to fans on social media, it was executed terribly.

During Game 2 of the Finals, some complained that the decals were glitchy and low-resolution.
'Looks like the @NBA got the memo about fans wanting more visuals of the #NBAFinals insignia and Larry OB, but superimposing a digital image isn't the answer,' another person wrote on X.
But amid the many comments slamming the NBA's lack of effort were some interesting ideas if on-court decals were a no-go.

Many pointed to the custom courts during the NBA Cup as something the league could employ during the Finals.
During the in-season tournament, the NBA had 30 custom courts designed and in use, which is something some fans think could work for the Finals — especially if the 'slippery' decals are a worry.

But with Game 4 set for Friday night, don't be surprised if the digital trophy rears its head again.

Lynx's Napheesa Collier hits major WNBA career milestone in Mercury blowout
The post Lynx's Napheesa Collier hits major WNBA career milestone in Mercury blowout appeared first on ClutchPoints. Fresh off a brief absence due to a lingering knee injury, Napheesa Collier returned to the court on Monday night and notched her 50th WNBA double-double as the Minnesota Lynx dismantled the Phoenix Mercury, 88–65 Advertisement Collier delivered 18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and a +24 rating in just under 30 minutes of play, leading a balanced and dominant effort on both ends of the floor. With this win, the Lynx improved to a perfect 8–0 start to the 2025 season, remaining tied with the New York Liberty at the top of the WNBA standings. Minnesota's unbeaten run has been fueled by stifling defense, efficient ball movement, and the consistently elite performances of Collier, who is currently leading the league in scoring with over 25 points per game. Since being drafted sixth overall in 2019 out of UConn, Collier has been a cornerstone for the Lynx. She won Rookie of the Year in her debut season and has steadily grown into one of the WNBA's most complete and reliable players. Advertisement Against Phoenix, the 28-year-old forward showcased her signature all-around game, crashing the boards, making smart reads, and setting the tone with her energy and pace. While she led the team, she was far from alone. Natisha Hiedeman added 18 points off the bench, and Karlie Samuelson chipped in nine, hitting key shots to keep the Mercury from building momentum. The Lynx defense held Phoenix to just 36 percent shooting and shut down their perimeter threats. This game was more than just another win, it was a showcase of the Lynx's depth, chemistry, and strong postseason potential. Collier's milestone highlights the leadership and consistency that have become hallmarks of her game. With Minnesota sitting at the top of the league, all signs point to a deep playoff run. Historic start puts Liberty on WNBA Finals rematch path
The post Historic start puts Liberty on WNBA Finals rematch path appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Liberty are rewriting their record books and turning heads across the WNBA. With a gritty 86-78 win over the Washington Mystics on Wednesday night, the defending champions improved to 8-0, the best start in franchise history. Advertisement That perfect mark also places them alongside the Minnesota Lynx as the only two undefeated teams in the league this season. This is just the second time in WNBA history that multiple teams have opened with 8 straight wins. The last time it happened was in 2016, when the Lynx started 13-0 and the Los Angeles Sparks opened 11-0. Those teams went on to clash in an unforgettable Finals series. With the Liberty and Lynx both rolling, a rematch storyline may be in the works. Wednesday's win came with challenges. Star center Jonquel Jones exited the game early in the first quarter with a right ankle injury. Without their anchor in the paint, the Liberty had to dig deep. They trailed by five after the opening period but flipped the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Mystics 32 to 12 to take control. Advertisement Breanna Stewart once again showed why she remains one of the league's most dominant players. She finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds, pacing the Liberty on both ends of the floor. Sabrina Ionescu added 13 points and 7 assists and reached a personal milestone by becoming the franchise's all-time leader in made three-pointers. She now has 401 in a Liberty uniform. Kennedy Burke stepped up off the bench, draining all four of her three-point attempts and finishing with 12 points. Her timely shooting helped hold off a late Mystics rally. Washington trimmed the lead to four in the final minute, but Stewart sealed the win from the free throw line. The Liberty leads the league in both offensive and defensive ratings and has the highest net rating by a wide margin. With the chemistry of a seasoned team and the hunger of champions, New York is setting the pace for the entire league. Advertisement Next up, the team returns to Barclays Center, where they will host the Chicago Sky. With each win, the buzz grows louder. This team is chasing more than just wins, they are chasing history.
