F1 reveals plan for private first preseason test in 2026
Formula One has revealed its plan to holds its first preseason test in 2026 behind closed doors, giving teams a first chance to sample their overhauled car designs in private.
As reported by The Athletic earlier this month, the first outing of the all-new cars for 2026 — featuring new power units and active aerodynamics — is scheduled to take place across five days at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain at the end of January.

Teams will be able to take part on three of the five days of the shakedown, which both F1 and the FIA confirmed on Monday would be held from Jan. 26-30 next year.
But the shakedown is going to be held entirely behind closed doors, with no plans for the running to be broadcast, or for fans or the media to be allowed to attend, meaning it can take place in private.
Teams have struck their own agreements with the track on the outskirts of Barcelona to complete the test running, meaning F1 will only be responsible for the timing data.
The move will maintain a degree of intrigue over the new car designs, and the pecking order among the teams which is set to be considerably shaken up in what is the greatest technical change in F1 for a generation.
The test will also be where the new Cadillac team can make its official on-track debut with its car after getting the green light to join the grid for 2026.
A better idea of the competitive picture will come with the first public outings of the new F1 cars will come with the official test running in Bahrain a couple of weeks later in February.
The first three-day test is scheduled for Feb. 11-13, while the second test will be held from Feb. 18-20 at the Bahrain International Circuit.
The change in the technical regulations for this year has resulted in teams getting increased preseason running. In each of the past three seasons, preseason testing has only run for three days, which teams typically split by giving each of its drivers one-and-a-half days each of running.
Following the final test in Bahrain, which starts following the commencement of Ramadan, teams will then make the trip to Australia for the opening round of the 24-race season on March 8.
Another update from F1 and the FIA confirmed the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place on Saturday next year, moving a day forward from its originally-planned date of Sept. 27, which is the nation's Remembrance Day.
A statement read: 'Following a request from the Azerbaijan promoter and relevant government stakeholders, FIA and Formula 1 have agreed to move the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix from Sunday 27th September to Saturday 26th to accommodate a national day.

'All the F1 teams have been informed of this change, which will mean each day of the event will move one day earlier.'
F1 has recent history in moving races to a Saturday, having shifted both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia from their usual Sunday slot in 2024 in order to create an extra one-day buffer before the start of Ramadan.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix has also been kept on a Saturday night slot since joining the calendar in 2023.

Real Madrid vs. Juventus reiterates regret over Huijsen and Kelly
When Juventus face Real Madrid in the Club World Cup, it will also be a moment of bitter regret, as Dean Huijsen has flourished, while Lloyd Kelly cost more. The Round of 16 tie kicks off at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Tuesday at 20.00 UK time. How to watch Real Madrid vs. Juventus The best way to live stream the Club World Cup is with DAZN, which is offering a free service this summer, which can also be upgraded to a premium service. DAZN's free offer means ads during games, and no replays or extended highlights, but it's still a pretty tempting deal that will surely get fans signing up quickly. Advertisement He chose to sell Huijsen to Bournemouth for €19.63m plus a cut of the future transfer fee after his loan experience at Roma. The defender made a huge impact and was then sold on to Real Madrid this summer for €62.5m, a huge increase that Juve missed out on. Seeing the pair go head-to-head tomorrow will only bring the anger and disappointment of the fans back to the forefront. As La Gazzetta dello Sport point out, even if Juve were to get through to the Club World Cup quarter-finals and gain a financial boost, it would still not make up what was lost in the failure to correctly evaluate these two players.

Thierno Barry Villarreal transfer stance shared as Everton set for £34m talks - 'We want the player'
Villarreal appear open to negotiations over Everton target Thierno Barry but club chiefs believe they are operating from a position of strength. The France Under-21s forward is of interest to David Moyes this summer. He has a release clause of around £34m but the Blues are understood to be exploring whether the Spanish club is open to a lower fee. Advertisement According to comments made by the side's sporting director, Fernando Roig Nogueroles, they may be willing to countenance a compromise, particularly if Barry were to push for the move. But, he insisted: 'We want the player, and if he were to leave, it would have to be, if not for the release clause, something very close to it. If not, he won't leave." READ MORE: Everton sent encouraging message after luring key figure from Manchester United READ MORE: Hill Dickinson Stadium set for dramatic changes with Everton working to key date at new home On the future of the 22-year-old, Nogueroles said amid the interest from Everton: "In the end, it seems there's a shortage of forwards, and now we've been selling our centre forward for two years, and now it seems there's interest. Advertisement 'But at the moment, we have no proof of that, and we're counting on Barry for next season.' Barry struck 11 times in La Liga and provided four assists in his debut campaign in eastern Spain. He secured a move from Swiss side FC Basel 12 months ago - a deal Nogueroles acknowledged was a 'gamble' at the time. Moyes wants to revamp his attacking options amid a major summer rebuild ahead of the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaving and questions over the lack of senior minutes experienced by Youssef Chermiti, interest has grown in Barry. Should the club wish to bid for the forward then the pathway appears to be opening up . The new football financial year will start on Tuesday, a key landmark in Everton's progress away from regulatory problems. Barry's involvement in the U21s Euros culminated with France's semi-final exit at the end of the last week, removing another potential hurdle. Advertisement With his club boss Marcelino having publicly acknowledged he may lose his forward this summer, Nogueroles' comments to Radio Vila-Real, in an interview covered by the website Futbol Fantasy (H/T Sport Witness), suggest the side would not reject approaches out of hand. On the interest of clubs in several of his key players, he said: 'You should never be closed off, and you should always listen. It's another matter if an agreement isn't reached, or if the negotiations aren't enough, and no matter how much a player's will is, sometimes you have to say no. But hey, you always have to listen, and you always have to negotiate.' Reports have claimed Barry is interested in a move to the Premier League and should he express a desire to leave, that would influence Villarreal's position, Nogueroles said. But, he added, that does not mean he would become available at a cut price. He said: 'These aren't real estate deals. What you're selling here is a person with a strong will. When it comes to defending the club's interests, you have to listen to their will, always listen. You don't always reach an agreement, and sometimes you have to say no, but you always have to listen and negotiate. "Yes, the player's will is very important when it comes to any type of transfer, but, well, we're relaxed. We want the player, and if he were to leave, it would have to be, if not for the release clause, something very close to it. If not, he won't leave."

Rangers transfer 'target' told he's ready for Europe while Ianis Hagi could land jackpot move following Ibrox exit
Reported Rangers target Relebohile Mofokeng has been told that he is ready to make the jump into European football. The 20-year-old has burst onto the scene with Orlando Pirates in his native South Africa, helping them win three domestic cups since making his debut in 2023. Advertisement The winger was crowned as the South African top flight's player of the season for 2024/25 and has gone onto win six caps for his country at senior level. READ MORE: Metinho still on Rangers transfer radar as Gers 'ready' to up the ante in bid to land Brazilian youngster READ MORE: Rangers transfer news as agent teases 'imminent' arrival and Christian Eriksen move dealt a setback after Ibrox pitch Mofokeng was touted as a potential transfer target for several European sides including Gers last year, with Catalan giants Barcelona even said to have sent scouts over to watch him in person. And while it remains to be seen if he is on new Ibrox boss Russell Martin's radar, the youngster has been urged by South Africa and Leeds United hero Lucas Radebe that now is the time to try his luck further afield. Advertisement He told iDiski Times: "I think he's ready (to go to Europe). You don't need five or ten seasons in the PSL to be ready. "He's had two great seasons already. That's enough to show his potential. From here, it's all about development – and that's where Europe can play a big role. "Players like Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, and even Itumeleng Khune – they all had the quality to play abroad earlier,' Radebe added. "But staying at one club or in the PSL too long doesn't always help their growth. That's why I believe our top talents must go as young as they can. Relebohile is at that stage now.' We hope that they will materialize soon."
