Pennsylvania parks officials learn tips for building; connecting trails
BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WTAJ) — Parks and recreation officials attended a learning seminar to help develop more trails in the state. The Trail Symposium, held at Brass 16823 on Axemann Road, drew over 75 people to a daylong session focused on creating efficient trails for running, biking, and equestrian use. Topics of discussion ranged from planning to fundraising, design and marketing. 'It's a very broad interest, but that's how the National Parks Service trails get on the ground,' Mary Monroe Brown, senior vice president of advocacy and engagement for the International Mountain Bicycling Association, said. 'It's a collaboration of all these groups and people understanding this vision of trails.' State grant awarded to Cambria County Historical Society to preserve century-old Buck House Attendees got a chance to network and share ideas in between sessions about their management of trails. These ideas were a way to take each piece of advice back to the home trails and create ways to connect each trail for a larger network of paths. With each connection, a new way to attract visitors and boost local commerce arises. 'The people that go hiking, camping and mountain biking, they spend a lot of money on their affinity and their recreation,' Phillip Millburn, the vice president of IMBA, said. 'The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has this data to back this case up. The economic potential is significant.' Pennsylvania has 650 trails that span over 14,000 miles. The IMBA sees the potential in developing these connecting trails to create a statewide network. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Analyst Says Alphabet (GOOG) Trading at ‘Huge Discount' – Believes It Can ‘Absolutely' Compete with ChatGPT
Ted Thatcher, president of Bright Lake Wealth Management, explained in a recent program on Schwab Network why he is bullish on Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and mentioned some of the key growth catalysts for the stock: "At least from a price to earnings ratio, you know, Google's trading around 18 times earnings. If you look at that compared to the other mega caps, it's like at a huge discount. And I understand we've had these concerns about whether Gemini versus Chat GPT usage is competitive or not. But we have to remember, you know, look at Google's revenue. Look at what happened out of their earnings calls. Even their blue link search revenue was up 10%. And then you look at Google more broadly, they have 270 million users, paid subscribers, between their YouTube platform and their Google One platforms. And so when you look at that level of user control that Google has and then you pair that with everything that they just announced at I/O with all these essentially AI apps, some of them authentic, some of them are AI mode with Google Search, you know, I think Google is going to be able to absolutely cram down Gemini through those users' throats, essentially, and absolutely compete with the Chat GPT user growth." Alphabet posted strong quarterly results, but the market remains reluctant about the stock amid threats to its search business due to the onslaught of AI tools like ChatGPT. However, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) bulls believe these concerns are overstated. Google has an edge over competitors because it's easier for the billions of users of its search engine to switch to Gemini instead of opting for a completely new model. Google has over 1.5 billion monthly users interacting with its AI-powered Search overviews. OpenAI, Alphabet's biggest competitor now when it comes to AI search, has less than 5% of its users paying, and its business model is still developing. Google's first-quarter results showed continued strength in its cloud unit, with revenue up 28% year over year and solid operating income growth. This supports Google's broader AI strategy and underscores the scale advantages of its cloud business. RiverPark Large Growth Fund stated the following regarding Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) in its Q1 2025 investor letter: 'Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) shares declined in the first quarter despite solid business fundamentals. Investors reacted negatively to the company's AI product rollout relative to peers, expressing concern about potential market share loss in core search and cloud segments. Nevertheless, Alphabet continues to deliver strong cash flow from its dominant search and YouTube platforms while investing aggressively in its next-generation AI and cloud infrastructure. Trading at a valuation discount to many of its peers, we view Alphabet as a core holding with compelling upside as monetization of its newer initiatives accelerates.' READ NEXT: and . Rite Aid store closures update: Latest list includes doomed locations in California, Washington, and Oregon
The list of Rite Aid store closures continues to grow. As the drugstore chain prepares to sell off its remaining assets in the wake of filing for bankruptcy for a second time, the total number of locations marked for closure in court documents as of this week is at least 497 nationwide. The chain will eventually sell or shutter all of its 1,277 pharmacies as it winds down operations. According to a court filing on Thursday, the latest list includes 25 additional locations in Ohio, California, Oregon, and Washington state. Bids on Rite Aid's remaining assets are due on June 18. Pharmacy assets already sold Rite Aid has already reached agreements to offload some of its assets—notably, its valuable prescription files—to CVS, the country's largest pharmacy chain; Walgreens; and the Albertsons and Kroger grocery chains. As Fast Company previously reported, CVS agreed to buy prescription files for 625 of those pharmacies and take over 64 brick-and-mortar Rite Aid locations in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, home to many of the latest closures. Rite Aid's mass closures present particular challenges for customers in rural areas who rely on the chain for their medications, sparking concerns about pharmacy deserts. The broader wind-down has left many remaining locations with empty shelves as products run out. Fast Company has reached out to Rite Aid for additional information about the timeline of the closures. Here's what to know. Which Rite Aid stores are among the latest closings? According to this week's filing, the following 25 locations are set to close and may already be in the process of doing so.
