Gusty breeze, Saharan dust help keep rain chance low for South Florida's metro areas
A gusty southeast breeze will push showers through the east coast metro areas and the Florida Keys on Thursday morning before storms develop over the interior in the afternoon.
Winds will be near 20 mph out of the southeast with higher gusts this afternoon. A breeze from that direction this strong will not allow inland showers and storms to work back across the area later in the afternoon. It will be mainly dry in the evening.
Temperatures will remain warm, a degree or two shy of 90 for the rest of this week and the weekend. Even though Saharan dust returns to the South Florida skies over the weekend, the strong ocean breeze will keep temperatures seasonably warm. The dust will lower the chance of rain slightly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
A few showers work through the area in the morning before heavier showers and storms develop inland each day.
Early next week the chance of rain remains low, but with a lighter breeze and less rain, high temperatures will be at or just above 90 degrees each day. A few showers may briefly cool things down in the morning before afternoon storms develop over the interior.
Tropics remain quiet with nothing expected to develop over the next 7 days.

South Florida is in for a hazy and hot weekend. Friday morning got off to a warm and muggy start with temperatures mostly in the low 80s. While Miami-Dade and Broward were mostly dry, a few showers moved across parts of the Florida Keys. Currently the air quality is moderate for most of South Florida. Those with respiratory conditions, or are unusually sensitive to particle pollution, should consider reducing their time and activity level while outdoors. The dust will also lead to hazy skies at times. There is a moderate risk of rip currents along the Atlantic beaches. There are no alerts for boaters over the Atlantic waters but small craft should exercise caution over the Keys waters. Father's Day forecast NEXT Weather Over the weekend, the chance of rain remains low, at about 20%, with a few showers possible on Saturday and Sunday. The southeast breeze will steer most of the activity towards the interior and west coast. Lows will remain in the low 80s. Highs will be seasonable in the low 90s. On Sunday, Father's Day, it will be mostly dry with hazy sunshine and afternoon highs near 90 degrees. The drier air and Saharan dust sticks around through early next week and the chance of rain is only 10% Monday through Wednesday.

Showers and Storms Expected for Father's Day Weekend in Maryland
Happy Friday! It was a dry start to the day across Maryland with some haziness and some cloud cover overhead. Moderate levels of air quality also started the day for most of the state outside of parts of far southeastern Maryland along the Eastern Shore. The haziness will filter the sunshine until more clouds fill in later today. Friday afternoon will bring showers and storms back to Maryland. With high humidity, there's a potential for heavy rain. A FLOOD WATCH is in place for parts of Montgomery County and all of Prince Georges, Charles and St. Mary's Counties starting this evening through early Saturday morning. Those areas of the state have the highest chance for heavy rain later today. Highs on Friday will return to the mid to upper 80s and low 90s. We keep a few showers or storms around into Saturday morning before it dries out for a few hours. Another round of showers, storms and potential downpours moves in for Saturday afternoon. It'll be another warm day with highs in the 80s and elevated humidity. For those dad's looking for a round of golf on Father's Day, it may need to be postponed. We've got scattered showers in the forecast for Sunday, as well. However, it'll be cooler with highs in the 70s. Monday is on the cool side - more 70s to start next week with yet another chance for showers and/or storms. Temperatures begin to warm back into the 80s on Tuesday and continue to climb into the middle and late part of the week.
