Gadi Kinda, who played pro soccer in Israel and for Sporting KC, dies at 31 of undisclosed condition
HAIFA, Israel (AP) — Gadi Kinda, a midfielder on the Israeli national soccer team who previously played for Sporting Kansas City in the MLS, died Tuesday. He was 31.
Kinda's Israeli club, Maccabi Haifa, announced his death following his hospitalization for an undisclosed condition.
Kinda played for Sporting Kansas City from 2020-23 and signed with Maccabi Haifa in January 2024. He played his final match March 29.
Born in Ethiopia, Kinda moved to Israel when he was 3. He played professionally for Ashdod SC and Beitar Jerusalem before he joined Sporting Kansas City. He also played four years on the Israeli national team.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was among fans who offered condolences to Kinda's family. Kinda started 48 of 64 matches with Sporting Kansas City and scored 14 goals.
'Gadi was a fan favorite for his outstanding play on the field, his passion for the sport, and his spirit of kindness and his generosity to everyone around him,' the MLS wrote in a post on X.

The Major League Soccer team cancelled a planned training session on Wednesday and held a modified individual session for players who had been cleared by medical staff on Thursday. The session was closed to media. The club says in a statement that each player has been given an 'individualized program' by medical and performance staff to support their continued preparation and recovery. The Whitecaps flew to Mexico City on Friday to face LIGA MX side Cruz Azul in the final Saturday. Cruz Azul trounced the 'Caps 5-0 to hoist the Champions Cup, snapping Vancouver's 15-game (7-0-8) unbeaten streak across all competitions. It's unclear whether the Whitecaps will still host their regional rivals, the Seattle Sounders, as scheduled on Sunday. Canada coach Jesse Marsch adds experience to his 26-man CONCACAF Gold Cup roster
Veterans Alistair Johnston, Richie Laryea and Jonathan Osorio will rejoin Canada later this month for the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup. All three are included in Jesse Marsch's 26-man roster, which also adds goalkeeper Tom McGill and defender Kamal Miller to those held over from the 23-player Canadian Shield Tournament, which kicks off Saturday with No. 30 Canada hosting No. 25 Ukraine at Toronto's BMO Field. The Canadians face No. 41 Ivory Coast next Tuesday. Osorio (84 caps), Laryea (60), Johnston (53) and Millar (47) bring a combined 244 caps to the squad. Laryea, originally included in the Shield side but was replaced by Zorhan Bassong due to injury, also returns. The Toronto FC fullback/wingback returned to action May 31 for Toronto FC from a hamstring injury that had sidelined him since March 1. Osorio was allowed to skip the Shield tournament after suffering a shoulder injury with TFC on April 30. Celtic's Johnston had been dealing with a back issue.
