Kindergarten enrollment begins for Joplin Schools
JOPLIN, Mo. — Monday was the first day for kindergarten enrollment through the Joplin School District.
It's for kids who have their fifth birthday before August 1. That enrollment process is all done online.
Parents will need to have things like proof of residency, a birth certificate, and shot records.
'Getting started now helps us get an idea of those students coming in. We also will start screenings here — scheduling those after Spring Break. So this just allows us to see who's coming in and get started before we get to summer,' said Dr. Sarah Mwangi, Joplin Schools Asst. Supt. of Learning Services.

What's Cooking: Lemon Garlic Butter Chicken (with Creamy Parmesan Pasta) Recipe by: Chef Lisa A. Heidelberg Time: 20-25 minutes Serves: 4 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces Zest and juice of 1 lemon ½ tsp Italian seasoning 1 tsp house seasoning ½ tsp kosher salt ½ tsp paprika 3T unsalted butter, divided 3 minced garlic cloves 8 oz linguine or fettuccine 2T butter 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese ½ cup heavy cream ½ tsp house blend Chopped parsley, for garnishing Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta until al dente. Once done, drain and set aside. In a mixing bowl, toss the chicken pieces with lemon zest, lemon juice, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt and pepper until well-coated. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken and sauté for about 5–6 minutes, or until the pieces are golden and cooked through. Transfer the chicken to a plate and set aside. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1–2 minutes until it's aromatic but not browned. Stir in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper, and let the sauce bubble for a few minutes until it begins to thicken. Add the Parmesan cheese to the sauce and stir continuously until it melts into a creamy blend. Add the cooked linguine into the skillet and gently toss it in the sauce until every strand is coated. Stray of the Day: Meet Fuzzy 6/10/25
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Meet today's Stray of the Day! Fuzzy is a 10 to 12-week-old, male, silver tabby kitten. He was found abandoned along with three of his siblings at the rescue's front door. All together, there are two-boys and two-girls. The rescue said they're sweet kittens who are ready to find their forever homes. Fuzzy and his siblings are all available for adoption now. Fuzzy has a few other friends that are looking for homes, cats and dogs alike!
