Pickup irregular, mounds of waste choke Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road
Gurgaon: Large piles of garbage line the Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road near Dundahera, narrowing the navigable road space and turning the stretch into a public health hazard.Despite being in the middle of a densely populated residential and commercial area, daily waste collection by MCG here remains irregular, leading to accumulated trash rotting in the open for days.Residents said there are days when over half the road is blocked by heaps of garbage, reducing the carriageway to just one and a half lanes for motorists.Moreover, stray animals are frequently seen scavenging through the pile, adding to the unhygienic conditions, and the stench is overpowering, residents said.
"This has been going on for years. I have raised the issue with MCG for the last three years, but no permanent solution is in sight. When pressure builds, they clear the waste temporarily, but it is back on the roads within days," said Rajesh Gera, RWA president of Surya Vihar.According to the residents, the situation deteriorated further over the past year, when MCG, following complaints, placed a waste trolley at the spot instead of clearing the site.Due to lack of monitoring and consistent clearing of the waste dumped in and around the trolley, a mini landfill surfaced in the high-traffic area.The residents have demanded immediate intervention from senior MCG officials to relocate the dump site and initiate regular collection drives."Given the volume of waste from homes and shops around here, it should be collected by MCG at least twice a day. The situation cannot be brought under control even if waste is collected once every day," said Dharam Pal, a shopkeeper from the area.Meanwhile, MCG's joint commissioner Jaiveer Yadav said, "I will get the matter checked and will ensure regular cleaning in the area."
