At the event, Hemant also announced that the new flyover will be named after Kartik Oraon, a former Congress politician and a freedom fighter.
"This flyover stands as a symbol of progress and dedication. We always aimed to ensure that development does not come at the cost of hurting anyone's sentiments. The public's support boosts our morale to work more sincerely," Hemant said after the inauguration.
The inauguration of the flyover came a day after several tribal outfits had called a 12-hour bandh to protest the construction of a ramp of the flyover near a Sarna site, which was founded by Kartik in the 1960s.
Interestingly, the agitation was being spearheaded by former state minister Geetashree Oraon, who is Kartik's daughter. Hemant also offered prayers at the Sarna Sthal after the inauguration.
The Rs 355.76 crore project, built by the road construction Department, is aimed at reducing traffic congestion for commuters headed towards the railway station and airport. It features Jharkhand's first extra-dosed cable-stayed spans over a railway line (132 metres) and the Harmu river (94 metres), along with a monolithic mono-pile foundation technique, a first for the state.
Other advanced features include precast pier caps and girders, and pylons rising 42 metres high.
The project's foundation stone was laid in 2022.
"Despite space constraints and high-density areas, we ensured both safety and efficiency," said Sunil Kumar, principal secretary of road construction department. The flyover will reduce commute time from 30 minutes to five minutes.

Rahul Gandhi calls Maharashtra polls ‘rigged', shows ‘how it happened' with 5 steps: ‘Add fake voters, hide proof'
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday alleged that the November 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election was "rigged" and warned that a similar pattern could repeat in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections later this year. Sharing his concerns in a post on X, Gandhi also attached a newspaper article he authored, detailing the alleged electoral manipulation in Maharashtra. 'Maharashtra assembly elections in 2024 were a blueprint for rigging democracy. My article shows how this happened, step by step,' Gandhi said on X. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi outlined a five-step process he believes was used to rig the Maharashtra Assembly election. He further claimed that the next steps include inflating the voter turnout, targeting the bogus voting exactly where the BJP needs to win and hiding the evidence. 'Step 1: Rig the panel for appointing the Election Commission; Step 2: Add fake voters to the roll; Step 3: Inflate voter turnout; Step 4: Target the bogus voting exactly where BJP needs to win; Step 5: Hide the evidence,' Gandhi said. He further labelled rigging as 'match-fixing', saying that the side cheats might win the game but damage institutions and destroy public faith in the result. 'It's not hard to see why the BJP was so desperate in Maharashtra. But rigging is like match-fixing - the side that cheats might win the game but will damage institutions and destroy public faith in the result. All concerned Indians must see the evidence. Judge for themselves. Demand answers,' the Rae Bareli MP said. Gandhi warned that the 'match-fixing' of Maharashtra would come to Bihar next, where the polls are due later this year, and then 'anywhere' the BJP was losing elections. 'Match-fixed elections are a poison for any democracy,' he added. The Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024 witnessed a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance, securing a landslide win with 235 seats. The results marked a significant milestone for the BJP, which emerged as the single-largest party with 132 seats. The Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party, part of the Mahayuti alliance, also made notable gains, with 57 and 41 seats, respectively. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a major setback with Congress winning just 16 seats. Its alliance partner, Shiv Sena (UBT), won 20 seats, while the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) secured only 10 seats. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has earlier cleared misconceptions about voter turnout amidst concerns raised by the Congress party after the Maharashtra Assembly elections. In its detailed response to the Congress party, the apex poll body explained the process behind the aggregation of voter turnout data during the election. In response to the Congress Party's concerns, the Election Commission of India (ECI) clarified in a letter that the increase in reported voter turnout between 5 PM and 11:45 PM is a routine part of the data aggregation process. It explained that minor discrepancies between votes polled and votes counted can occur but are genuine and inconsequential. The ECI firmly stated that actual voter turnout figures cannot be manipulated, as statutory Form 17C, which records the official turnout, is provided to authorised polling agents of all candidates at the close of voting at each polling station. Rigging is like match-fixing - the side that cheats might win the game but will damage institutions and destroy public faith in the result. Regarding allegations of arbitrary additions or deletions of voters, the Commission maintained that no such irregularities occurred in Maharashtra.

PM Narendra Modi to attend BJP govt's first anniversary celebrations in Odisha on June 20
BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the first anniversary celebration of the Mohan Charan Majhi-led BJP govt in Odisha on June 20. This event will conclude the nine-day celebration starting June 12, when Majhi took the oath last year. This anniversary marks a pivotal milestone for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which defied expectations by forming a govt in Odisha for the first time, challenging the predictions of many political analysts. For chief minister Majhi, this occasion is not only a testament to his leadership but also a personal triumph, as he rose from humble beginnings as a sarpanch to the state's highest office. The BJP is keen to leverage this anniversary to highlight its achievements over the past year, portraying it as a period of remarkable success. Among the initiatives being showcased are the state govt's Rs 800 bonus per quintal of paddy and the "Subhadra" cash incentive scheme, which provides Rs 5,000 annually to approximately one crore women. These programmes are being positioned as key accomplishments of the Majhi administration, which also fulfilled several other emotive and symbolic poll promises, such as the opening of four gates of the 12th-century Jagannath temple in Puri. Majhi, who succeeded Naveen Patnaik after his 24-year tenure as chief minister, is working to establish himself as a 'people's CM.' His approach contrasts sharply with that of his predecessor, as he emphasises accessibility and engagement with the public. His participation in a marathon 12-hour debate on the Odisha University Amendment Bill, 2025, exemplifies his commitment to governance and legislative processes. Naveen was often criticised for skipping assembly when he was CM. Revenue and disaster management minister Suresh Pujari confirmed that Prime Minister Modi will attend the event on June 20, following a request from the CM. Although the anniversary falls on June 12, the Prime Minister's schedule necessitated a later visit. 'The celebrations will span from June 12 to June 20, with various programmes planned to engage the public and highlight the govt's vision for the future,' he said. The anniversary celebrations will include a press conference by the Chief Minister, discussions with intellectuals, and the unveiling of a Vision document for 2036 and 2047. These events aim to reinforce the BJP's strategic goals and long-term plans for Odisha. The CM earlier announced the aspiration for Odisha to become a US $1.5 trillion economy by 2047 and US $500 billion by 2036, which requires a 9.2% growth rate. District-level programmes will also be organised to ensure widespread participation and engagement. Prime Minister Modi's visit will be his sixth to Odisha since Majhi assumed office, underscoring the importance of the state in the BJP's national strategy. During a recent visit to Delhi, Majhi personally invited the Prime Minister to attend the anniversary, highlighting the significance of this event for both the state and the party. As preparations continue, the BJP is poised to use this anniversary as a platform to consolidate its position in Odisha and demonstrate its governance capabilities.
